משיבת נפש - Meshivas Nefesh
צָרִיךְ לִהְיוֹת עַקְשָׁן גָּדוֹל בַּעֲבוֹדַת הַשֵּׁם וְהָבֵן הַדָּבָר הֵיטֵב, כִּי עַל כָּל אָדָם שֶׁרוֹצֶה לְהִכָּנֵס בַּעֲבוֹדַת הַשֵּׁם וַאֲפִלּוּ הַקָּטָן שֶׁבַּקְּטַנִּים, בְּהֶכְרֵחַ שֶׁיַּעֲבר עָלָיו עֲלִיּוֹת וִירִידוֹת בְּלִי מִסְפָּר וְכַמָּה מִינֵי נְפִילוֹת וְהַשְׁלָכוֹת. כִּי לִפְעָמִים יֵשׁ שֶׁמַּפִּילִין אֶחָד בְּכַוָּנָה מֵעֲבוֹדַת הַשֵּׁם. וְעַל כָּל זֶה צְרִיכִין לְהִתְחַזְּקוּת גָּדוֹל בְּלִי שִׁעוּר וְכַמְבאָר מִזֶּה קְצָת לְמַעְלָה. וְכַמָּה פְּעָמִים הוּא צָרִיךְ לְהִתְחַזֵּק וּלְהִתְאַחֵז עַצְמוֹ רַק בְּדֶרֶךְ עַקְשָׁנוּת וּצְרִיכִין עַקְשָׁנוּת גָּדוֹל מְאד מְאד בָּזֶה, וּזְכר דָּבָר זֶה הֵיטֵב כִּי תִּצְטָרֵךְ לָזֶה מְאד (שָׁם ח)
One must be a great stubborn one in the service of Hashem — understand this well. For on every person who wishes to enter divine service — even the smallest of the small — there must inevitably pass innumerable ascents and descents, and many kinds of falls and castings down. For sometimes one is made to fall intentionally from divine service. And for all of this one needs boundless strengthening — as is somewhat explained above. And many times one must grasp oneself only through the path of stubbornness. And great, very great stubbornness is required in this — remember this matter well, for you will need it very much.
