מכתבי שמואל - Michtevay Shmuel Volume 2

1

[Written entirely in Yiddish:] A good writing and sealing, and peace and blessing to my dear good friend, the magnanimous and G‑d-fearing R' Yitzchak Meir Kalif, may he live.

[Yiddish:] "I received your dear letter with the 3 dollars — and you greatly revived me. May G‑d, blessed be He, help you — and in this merit may you have complete healing and a good year and a good writing and sealing and all goodness. Amen. Presumably you received my letter in which I wrote to you regarding the orphan girl, the hachnasas kallah [הכנסת כלה — providing for a bride's wedding needs — one of the highest charitable obligations; R' Shmuel is apparently helping raise funds for an orphaned bride in Jerusalem]. And I ask you greatly not to be angry with me — for I know the great mitzvah of this, and in the merit of what you will help — you will certainly, G‑d willing, be helped with all goodness. Amen. And I thank you very much and wish you a good year — a good writing and sealing — and I pray for you at all the holy places. Amen, so may it be His will. From me — your friend." [Hebrew:] (To my dear good and beloved generous and G‑d-fearing friend, our Master R' Yitzchak Meir Kalif, may he live — I received your dear letter with the three dollars and you greatly revived me. May G‑d, blessed be He, help you — and in this merit may you have complete healing and a good year and a good writing and sealing and all goodness. Amen.) The Rabbi Shmuel Horowitz.
