Letter 61 ס"א
מכתבי שמואל - Michtevay Shmuel Volume 2
Peace and blessing and all good forever — to the honored selves of our beloved dear and elevated friends — our Master R' Yisrael Dov, may he live — and the elder, our Master R' Shlomo Kavler — and the rest of the fellowship who merit to be at the hillula of the Rashbi, of blessed memory — our Master R.A.B.Tz. — and our Master R' Yaakov Zev, etc.
Please, please — first: write to me of your good welfare. And especially of the welfare of R' Yisrael Dov, may he live. What is this — that I know nothing at all of his welfare? And truly my life is no life from this — from the depth of the suffering. And R' Yaakov Zev — please write immediately whether you received the letters with the Tikkun HaKlali — once a Tikkun HaKlali for him, with a few pages of my daily practice — and a second time: a Tikkun HaKlali for one, etc. Please write immediately — a receipt.
The essential, dear faithful beloved brothers — shake the world [להרעיש העולם] at the holy places — and especially at the Tzion of the Rashbi, of blessed memory — for me: that now is the essential time of my birth-pangs [עיקר הזמן הולדה — the moment of birth; a metaphor for the critical juncture in his efforts to return to Eretz Yisrael]. And one must pray for great compassion — that there be no difficulty of birth. For "the children have reached the birth canal and there is no strength to give birth." May G‑d and the Tzadikim have compassion on my soul and spirit and body — in spiritual and material matters. That I merit everything I must merit in this world. And to true and complete repentance in innermost truth. And to come to Eretz Yisrael very soon — without difficulty of birth — and may the straits open — and may we merit on the holy Rosh Hashana to all be together at the place of his hiding [מקום גניזתו — the place where Rabbainu is hidden — Uman] — and the precious fellowship, of blessed memory, in Eretz Yisrael. Amen, so may it be His will.
From me — your friend who awaits the salvation of Hashem — "my eye, my eye runs down with water" [Lamentations 1:16]: Shmuel son of Feiga. [Appended note from R' Tzvi Yehudah Lipel to the Meron gathering:] Dear beloved friends — I ask you: mention me in Meron at the holy Tzion — that we merit to be together in the service of Hashem in Eretz Yisrael — to raise the banner of the knowledge of Rabbainu the Holy one, Na Nach Nachma Nachman MayUman — and that I merit to come this very year to Eretz Yisrael. My name: Tzvi Yehudah son of Chaya Hendel. My wife: Reizya daughter of Eti Freida. My daughter: Eti Freida. — Praying for you at the Tzion of Rabbainu the Holy one in Uman: Tzvi Yehudah Lipel.
