מכתבי שמואל - Michtevay Shmuel Volume 2
After warmly greeting you — I was yesterday with your brother [R' Yisrael Ber's brother, apparently in Jerusalem] and he told me that Nachman had taken his money and traveled — and had also taken two shillings from him. And today in the market — I saw Nachman, and he told me that yesterday he had missed the automobile — and today he travels — and has already received a ticket. And now, my dear brother — the baal davar is dancing [celebrating his victory]. And I still have not brought myself to the service of Hashem. And he pursues me from every direction. And even so — I am not despairing of myself. And I am still waiting — perhaps today the time will come to begin in the service of Hashem. And so — do you also. And now I very much want to make myself a special sukkah [for Sukkos, three days away] — and I need money and effort for this. May Hashem help me in this. There is no more time. From me — your friend who awaits your welfare and your good: Shmuel HaLevi Horowitz. Please remember the matter of my Rashi tefillin [תפילין דר"ת — Rabbeinu Tam's tefillin — the second pair worn by pious Jews] — that I left at the holy Tzion. And speak with Sender Travitz and his mother. And with R' Dovid regarding the esrog and the printing matter. And show them the Kochvei Or. Please, please — multiply compassion greatly for me during these days. And especially on Yom Kippur at Meron, at the Tzion of the Foundation of the World, of blessed memory — for me and my household — and my father, may he live. Please, please. Tell R' Noton Chanhas not to send me more than 150 myrtle leaves — for I cannot sell that many.
