A Mazal Tov — The Wedding of R' Yaakov Zev Brzhesky
מכתבי שמואל - Michtevay Shmuel Volume 2
First — I inform you of our welfare. Thanks to G‑d, blessed be He, we have, blessed be G‑d, life and peace with us. May Hashem add and grant to hear and to cause to hear only good tidings. Amen. My dear brother — I have come to wish you a mazal tov on the wedding of our friend, our dear and mighty companion — the groom, the pious and G‑d-fearing one — R' Yaakov Zev Brzhesky [יעקב זאב ברזשעסקי — R' Yankel, the bereaved companion of Letters 19–20 who is now getting married! A beautiful moment in the narrative arc: the friend who lost his father (Letter 19), who became R' Shmuel's neighbor in Jerusalem (Letter 20), is now being married]. This Shabbos will be the calling-up [דאס אוף רופין — the aufrufen: the groom's public calling to the Torah on the Shabbos before the wedding], and on the coming Shabbos Mikketz [the next Shabbos], the wedding will take place — with a good and auspicious hour and sign and fortune! May it be His will that it be an everlasting building, and may they merit to have sons and grandsons who are true Breslov Chassidim. And may there be blessing and goodness. Amen. And G‑d willing — we shall all rejoice with great joy, and all the fellowship will be at the wedding in joy.
