Siman Seventy-Eight — Vayiten Oz L'Malkoסימן עח — ויתן עוז למלכו The discourse Vayiten Oz L'Malko, Siman 78 — was said in Zlatipoli on Rosh Hashonoh 5561 — which fell on Shabbas Kodesh and the first day. "On the matter of conducting oneself with simplicity [peshitus]." And so on. This was said on Shabbas Nachamu 5570 in Uman. And the matter has already been elaborated somewhat in the Conversations [at the end of Sipurei Ma'asiyos], Simanim 153 and 154. See there. There: "for there is a treasury of free gifts [otzar shel matan chinam]." And so on. In my humble opinion the meaning is: for this treasury is certainly from a very lofty level. Since from there — even one who has never studied Torah at all can receive. And so on — as elaborated in the discourse. There: "and this is the aspect of the way of Eretz Yisrael." And so on. In my humble opinion the meaning is: for in truth — Eretz Yisrael was given to Israel only because they accepted the Torah. And so on — as elaborated in the discourse. There: "and this is the aspect of derech eretz." And so on. The author says: through this one can explain what the Sages said in Brachos, p. 32b: "four things need strengthening: Torah — and good deeds — prayer — and derech eretz." And so on — as elaborated in the discourse. And this is what the Sages said: [Brachos 30] "one should direct his heart toward Eretz Yisrael — as it is said: [1 Kings 8] 'v'hispalelu eilecha derech artzam [and they shall pray toward You through the way of their land].'" Derech artzam specifically — the aspect of derech eretz [the way of the land — proper conduct] — this way — as elaborated in the discourse. There — in the above discourse: "and therefore Moshe our teacher — when he sought to come to Eretz Yisrael — asked for a free gift [matnat chinam] — as it is said: [Deuteronomy 3] 'va'eschanan el Haveye'ah [and I besought Haveye'ah].'" And so on. One can say: that he asked on account of — and so on — as elaborated in the discourse. And in my humble opinion — this discourse has a connection to what is elaborated elsewhere — [Chayyay Moharan, 142] — that on his return from the journey to Eretz Yisrael — he said: that through this way he fulfilled the entire Torah. And so on — as elaborated in the discourse.
