T168 PNC - Gadlut Signals Trouble Coming — Pride Before Destruction / Inverse Spiritual Reality (1 seg)

Petek Nanach Running Commentary on Likutey Moharan

מִשְׁלֵי ט"ז:יח.

1

When greatness (gadlut) — pride, elevated feelings, a sense of one's own importance — comes to a person, it is a sign that trouble (tzarah) will come to him, God forbid. As it is written: 'Before destruction comes pride' (Proverbs 16:18). The inflated sense of self is a spiritual warning sign — it signals that a fall is approaching. Conversely, when a person is lowly and feels small and humble, that is actually a sign that greatness is coming to him. The spiritual reality is the inverse of the psychological expectation: feeling great = trouble approaching; feeling small = greatness approaching. The teaching: when one notices feelings of pride and self-importance arising, treat them as an alarm — not an achievement. And when one feels lowly and humbled, treat that as an auspicious sign — not a defeat.
