When a person believes in the tzaddik with bare faith alone — without any da'at, without intellectual understanding — it is possible for him to fall from that faith, because faith alone can be lost. But once he also has da'at — when he understands the tzaddik with his mind in addition to his heart — it becomes impossible for him to fall. Faith plus knowledge is unbreakable. Faith without knowledge is fragile.
