T91 (Tinyana) PNC - Va-Yedaber Elokim Eis Kol ha-Devorim — The Tzaddik Joins Chochmah Tata'ah to Chochmah Ila'ah Through Sichas Chullin

Petek Nanach Running Commentary on Likutey Moharan

1

**"Va-yedaber Elokim eis kol ha-devorim ha-eileh leimor"** (Shemos 20:1). **Da, ki ha-his-kashrus be-emes le-tzaddikim amitiyim hu to'eles gadol me'oid me'oid.** Know — that *true binding* to *true tzaddikim* is a benefit *exceedingly, very exceedingly* great. *Ki al-yedei zeh zochin li-tshuvah sheleimah u-le-kapparas avoin, ve-nimtakin ha-dinin ve-nis-batlin le-gamrei.* Through this — through actual hiskashrus to a tzaddik amiti — one merits **complete teshuvah** and **kapparas avoinois**, the *dinim are sweetened* and *nullified entirely*, and **a yichud KuBaH u-Shechintei** is made. *Ki isa ba-Zoihar ha-Kadoish* (Vayigash 206b) on the pasuk **"ki hineh ha-melachim no'adu"** (Tehillim 48:5): *trein olamin kadishin, olma ila'ah ve-olma tata'ah... kad miscabrun ka-chada — keidan kol anpin nehirin ve-chol chovin is-abru* — *the two holy worlds, when they join as one, all faces shine and all sins are removed*.

2

**Yud and Lamed — Rebbe and Talmid, the two chochmois.** *Ki da, ki yeish shnei bechinois chochmah: chochmah ila'ah ve-chochmah tata'ah.* And chochmah tata'ah is *nimshach* from chochmah ila'ah, drawing and receiving from her. *Ve-hu kemo ha-rav ve-ha-talmid* — like the rebbi and the talmid. **What the rebbi teaches** is bechinas chochmah ila'ah — bechinas the **letter Yud**. **What the talmid receives** is bechinas chochmah tata'ah — bechinas the **letter Lamed**, which is the bechinah of **"migdal ha-poireiach ba-avir"** (Chagigah 15b — see Rashi). The lev *flies up into the air* and hears what the rebbi says, and through that the listener understands — *ki ikar havonas ha-talmid hu al-yedei ha-leiv*. The rebbi must speak **devorim ha-misyashvin al ha-leiv**; the talmid must give his heart and *yis-bonein* in what the rebbi said: **"li-knois chochmah ve-leiv ein"** (Mishlei 17:16). *Ve-zeh bechinas Lamed — leshon talmid ha-lameid me-ha-rav.* So Rebbe + Talmid = **Lamed + Yud** = chochmah-tata'ah + chochmah-ila'ah. **And the cap**: *kelal ha-Torah ha-kedoishah hu bechinas chochmah ila'ah, u-chelal ha-chochmois she-ba-olam nimshachin mi-bechinas chochmah tata'ah.* When the *world's chochmois* — chochmas-tata'ah-she-ba-olam — *separate themselves* from Torah and from HaShem, *zeh bechinas mi'ut ha-levanah, bechinas galus ha-Shechinah* (the talmid who refuses to receive). **"Ve-nirgan mafrid aluf"** (Mishlei 16:28) — *mafrid alufoi shel olam* — and *gorem pegimas ha-levanah*. **The diagnosis**: every act of unhinging *chochmas tata'ah* (the world's wisdom in your own life) from *chochmas ila'ah* (Torah and HaShem) IS a *diminution of the moon*, IS a *galus*.

**The tzaddik's sichas chullin is the chibur.** *Aval ha-tzaddikim amitiyim heim mekashrim chochmah tata'ah be-chochmah ila'ah.* **"Sichasan shel talmidei chachamim tzrichah limmud"** (Avodah Zarah 19b) — *yekarah me'oid me'oid* — for the tzaddik amiti, *boneh olamois ha-charevin u-magbiha chochmah tata'ah u-mekashreh le-chochmah ila'ah al-yedei sichaso ve-sippurei devorim she-medabber im hamoin am.* The intellect of the *hamoin am* — and even of the *rasha* — that is not bound to HaShem, is *separated from chochmah ila'ah*. The tzaddik amiti binds *their* sechel — even the rasha's — back to HaShem. *Ve-zeh inyan mah she-ha-tzaddikim medabrim im anashim she-einam hagunim* — and even, sometimes, with akum (when speaking with akum, the tzaddik *extracts the toiv from him*, ve-hu nish'ar **"efes ve-rik"** — bechinas mah she-harag Moshe es ha-Mitzri). When the tzaddik speaks with resha'im, *u-ma'aleh u-mekasheir es sechlam mi-makom she-heim le-HaShem yisbarach*. **Ki ha-tzaddik amiti me-tzamtzem sichloi, u-medabber imam be-chochmah nifla'ah u-vi-melachah gedoilah, u-mekasheir kol ha-dibburim le-HaShem yisbarach** — and through this *meiviam lidei teshuvah*. **"Ve-heim tuku le-raglecha, yisa mi-dabroisecha"** (Devorim 33:3): Chazal (Bava Basra 8a): *eilu talmidei chachamim ha-meghatim ragleihem me-ir le-ir, ve-noisim ve-nosnim be-divrei Makom*. Sometimes a tzaddik will speak with resha'im about *milchamois ve-ka-yotzei* — affairs of the world — but **hu malbish ba-zeh ha-or ha-gadol shel ha-Torah**. He robes the or ha-Torah in *levushim shoinim* until he reaches them in *these* devorim — and the or ha-Torah dresses itself in *tzeirufim acherim*.

**"Vai mi yokum li im merei'im" — read the *li* as *Lamed-Yud*.** *U-vishvil zeh ke-she-ha-tzaddik niftar min ha-olam, ya'asher tza'ar gadol le-HaShem yisbarach* — for HaShem desires not the death of resha'im, but their teshuvah; and the tzaddik was the one *mekasher osam u-ma'aleh osam le-HaShem*, joining chochmah tata'ah to chochmah ila'ah. **Sotah 13b (and Midrash)**: *kad mis Moshe Rabbeinu, tzavach Kadosha Brich Hu — "vai, mi yakum li im merei'im?"* — *li* dayka. **Read it kabbalistically**: *li* = **למד יוד** = chochmah tata'ah + chochmah ila'ah. The cry is: *who will rise and lift and bind the bechinas Li — who will join chochmah tata'ah with chochmah ila'ah — "im merei'im" — extracting the chochmah-tata'ah from all the resha'im in the world and binding it to Me?* Moshe Rabbeinu could do this; ha-tzaddik amiti can. **And so**: *ha-ikar le-kasheir atzmoi le-tzaddikim amitiyim* — for the tzaddik magbiha u-mekasheir chochmah tata'ah to chochmah ila'ah, *ve-azai mi-pegimas ha-levanah na'aseh milui ha-levanah*. **"Ki hineh ha-melachim no'adu, avru yachdav"** (Tehillim 48:5) — *kad melachim is-zaminun, treivayhu bi-re'usa cha-da, kedein... kulhu mar'ei de-dina is-kafyan ve-is-abru me-alma"* (Zoihar Vayigash). And then: **"Va-tirev chochmas Shloimoh"** (Melachim I 5:10) — *ve-isravias sahara* (Targum) — the diminished moon is filled.

**Reading the pasuk: *va-yedaber Elokim eis kol ha-devorim ha-eileh leimor*.** **Va-yedaber** — *leshon zivug ve-his-kashrus*, like "ra'uha medaberes" (Kesubos 13a). **Elokim eis** — *zeh bechinas chochmah-tata'ah ve-chochmah-ila'ah*: **Elokim** = chochmah tata'ah (kanoda); **Eis** = chochmah ila'ah, bechinas "Eis ha-shamayim" (see Tikkun 22). The pasuk's first three words *are themselves* the zivug: *le-zaveg u-le-kasheir chochmah tata'ah be-chochmah ila'ah*. **Through what?** — *zeh na'aseh al-yedei bechinas* **"ha-devorim ha-eileh leimor"** — through the **tzaddik who *malbish* es ha-devorim ha-eileh, hayno dibburei ha-Torah, hu malbish be-sippurei devorim**. **"Leimor"** is *leshon halbashah*, a *language of garmenting* — bechinas **"bitza imrasoi"** (Eichah 2:17), where *imrah* means a *robe*. *Va-yedaber Elokim Eis* — *the joining of chochmah-tata'ah to chochmah-ila'ah is brought about specifically* **"al-yedei she-ha-tzaddik malbish or ha-Torah be-sippurei devorim — al-yedei zeh mekasher chochmah tata'ah im chochmah ila'ah."** **Boruch HaShem le-olam, omein ve-omein.**
