T95 (Tinyana) PNC - Don't Watch for Tears — Speak the Words Emes-Dik and the Heart Will Come

Petek Nanach Running Commentary on Likutey Moharan

1

[T2:95א] התבודדות, תחנות ובקשות, אמירת תהלים — טוב מאד בלב שלם עד בכייה. אבל הציפייה לבכייה — מחשבה זרה. ר"נ מפי רבינו.

1

**Le-inyan hisbodedus, sichah beino le-vein konoi, va-amiras Tehillim u-techinois u-vakashois — toiv me'oid ke-she-zoichin le-omram be-leiv shaleim be-emes, ad she-yizkeh livkos lifnei HaShem yisbarach, ke-ben ha-boicheh lifnei aviv.** Yes — when one merits to speak in *complete heart*, in truth, *until one weeps before HaShem like a son weeping before his father* — that is a beautiful matzav. **Aval — amar:** Rabbeinu emphasized — *ke-she-ha-adam oimer techinois u-vakashois ve-choisheiv be-libo u-metzapeh she-yivkeh — zois ha-machshavah einah toivah, ve-hi mevalbeles gam-kein es da'aso*. **The very *watching* for tears is itself a machshava zara**: it disturbs the kavanah, *ki mei-chamas zeh eino yachol lomar ha-bakashois be-leiv shaleim bi-shleimus*.

2

[T2:95ב] תיקון: לכוון אל הדיבורים, כאשר ידבר איש אל רעהו; ממילא יתעורר הלב ויבוא לבכייה. "אם יזכה לבכייה — מה טוב; אם לאו — לאו."

**The correct kavanah** — *tzrichin bi-she'as amiras techinois u-vakashois le-harchik me-atzmoi kol minei machshavois chutz she-ba-olam, rak le-chavein da'aso el ha-dibburim she-hu medabber lifnei HaShem yisbarach, ka-asher yedabber ish el rei'ehu*. Move *every* outside thought away — *including* the thought "will I cry?" — and aim the da'as *only at the words you are saying in front of HaShem*, as a man speaks to his friend. *Ve-az me-meila bekal yis'oreir libo, ad she-yavoi li-bechiyah gedolah be-emes.* **The crying comes by itself** when the dibbur is true; the *moment* you try to engineer it, *zeh ve-zeh eino oileh be-yado, ki ha-amirah atzmah nis-balbelah*. **Ki zeh she-choisheiv u-metzapeh she-yivkeh hu gam-kein bechinas machshavah zarah she-mevalbeles ha-kavanah**: he cannot hear well what he himself is saying. **The ikar — *le-dabber ha-dibbur be-emes lifnei HaShem yisbarach, bli shum machshavois acheirois klal*. *Ve-im yizkeh li-bechiyah be-emes — mah toiv, ve-im lav — lav* — ve-loi yevalbel amiraso bi-shvil zeh.
