הַנִּסָּיוֹן הוּא בִּשְׁבִיל לְגַדֵּל וּלְפַרְסֵם אֶת הָאָדָם.
1. A test is to bring greatness and fame to a man.
מִי שֶׁאֵין בְּמַעֲלוֹת הַצִּדְקוּת, וְגַם אֵין לוֹ זְכוּת אָבוֹת, וְרוֹצֶה לְקָרֵב אֶת בְּנֵי־אָדָם לַעֲבוֹדַת הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ, יִשְׁמֹר אֶת עַצְמוֹ מִנִּסְיוֹנוֹת, וּבִפְרָט שֶׁלֹּא יִתְקַנְּאוּ בּוֹ הָרְשָׁעִים.
2. One who is not on the hierarchy of righteousness, and also does not have ancestral merit, and (nevertheless) wants to draw people to the service of the blessed G-d, he should guard himself from tests, and especially (guard himself/ so as) not to arouse the jealousy of the wicked.
מִי שֶׁהוּא שׁוֹלֵט בְּיִצְרוֹ, בָּנָיו אֵינָם יוֹצְאִים לְתַרְבּוּת רָעָה, וְעַל־יְדֵי זֶה מָמוֹנוֹ נִתְבָּרֵךְ, וְעַל־יְדֵי זֶה לֹא יָבוֹא לִידֵי נִסָּיוֹן.
3. One who is master over his desires, his children will not go off in bad ways, and through this his wealth is blessed, and through this, he will not come to be tested.
