כְּשֶׁאָדָם עוֹשֶׂה מִצְוָה בְּשִׂמְחָה, זֶה סִימָן שֶׁלִּבּוֹ שָׁלֵם לֵאלֹקָיו.

1. When a person does a Mitzvah joyfully, it is a sign that his heart is whole with G-d.

מֵחֲמַת שִׂמְחָה נִפְתָּח הַלֵּב.

2. Due to joy, the heart opens.

בִּרְבוֹת הַשִּׂמְחָה נִתְחַזֵּק כֹּחַ הַשִּׂכְלִי, וְהַמַּאֲכָל וְהַמִּשְׁתֶּה הֵם סִבָּה גְּדוֹלָה לְשִׂמְחַת הַלֵּב וּלְהַרְחִיק הָעַצְבוּת וּדְאָגוֹת.

3. Through an increase in joy, the intellect is strengthened, and food and drink are powerful causes for joy in the heart, and distancing sadness and worry.

עַל־יְדֵי צְדָקָה בְּלֵב שָׁלֵם בָּא לִידֵי שִׂמְחָה.

4. Through giving charity with a full heart, one comes to joy.

הַשִּׂמְחָה שֶׁל מִצְוָה הִיא מָעֹז לָאָדָם.

5. Joy of [performing] Mitzvot is strength for a man.

כְּשֶׁאַתָּה רוֹאֶה, שֶׁהָרָשָׁע בְּפֶתַע פִּתְאוֹם הוּא שׂוֹחֵק, בְּיָדוּעַ שֶׁנָּפַל לוֹ אֵיזֶה עֵצָה עַל עֲבֵרָה.

6. When you see that an evildoer suddenly chuckles, it is certain that he came upon some idea to commit a sin.

עַל־יְדֵי עֵצוֹת טוֹבוֹת שֶׁתִּתֵּן, תִּזְכֶּה לְשִׂמְחָה.

7. Through the good advice that you give, you merit happiness.

עַל־יְדֵי הָרִקּוּדִין וְהַתְּנוּעוֹת שֶׁאַתָּה עוֹשֶׂה בַּגּוּף, נִתְעוֹרֵר לְךָ שִׂמְחָה.

8. Through the dancing and movements that you do with your body, you are aroused to joy.

עַל־יְדֵי יִרְאָה בָּא הִתְלַהֲבוּת.

9. When joy suddenly enters your heart, this is because some Tzaddik has just been born.

מִי שֶׁמְּבֻזֶּה בְּעֵינֵי עַצְמוֹ, עַל־יְדֵי זֶה יָבוֹא לְהִתְלַהֲבוּת.

11. One who is denigrated in his own eyes, comes through this, to enthusiasm.

עַל־יְדֵי כַּוָּנוֹת הַלֵּב בָּא שִׂמְחָה.

12. Through intentions of the heart comes joy.

מִי שֶׁהוּא רָגִיל בִּשְׂחוֹק, בְּיָדוּעַ שֶׁהוּא רָחוֹק מִגְּדֻלַּת הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ.

13. One who is accustomed to lightheartedness, it is certain that he is far from the greatness of G-d.

14

עַל־יְדֵי זֶמֶר תָּבוֹא לִידֵי שִׂמְחָה וְהִתְלַהֲבוּת.

14. Through music you will come to joy and enthusiasm.

15

כְּשֶׁתְּשַׂמַּח אֶת הַצַּדִּיק, תּוּכַל לַעֲבֹד אֶת הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ בְּשִׂמְחָה.

15. When you give joy to the Tzaddik, you can serve G-d with joy.

16

מִי שֶׁמְּפַרְסֵם אֶת הַצַּדִּיק, זוֹכֶה לְשִׂמְחָה.

16. One who publicizes the Tzaddik merits joy.

17

עַל־יְדֵי בִּטָּחוֹן בָּא שִׂמְחָה.

17. Through trust [in G-d] one comes to joy.

18

עַל־יְדֵי תְּנוּעוֹת הַגּוּף בָּא הִתְלַהֲבוּת הַלֵּב.

18. Through movements of the body comes enthusiasm of the heart.

עַל־יְדֵי אֱמוּנָה שְׁלֵמָה תָּבוֹא לְמַדְרֵגָה שֶׁתִּתְאַוֶּה בְּגוּף וָנֶפֶשׁ לַעֲבוֹדַת הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ.

19

19. Through complete faith you will come to a level that you will desire, with body and soul, to serve G-d.

20

מִי שֶׁמֵּשִׂים עַצְמוֹ כְּשִׁירַיִם, יִזְכֶּה לְהִתְלַהֲבוּת.

20

20. One who makes himself insignificant (lit. like leftovers) will merit enthusiasm.

21

עַל־יְדֵי שִׂמְחָה תְּפִיסַת הַמֹּחַ נִתְגַּדֵּל.

21. Through joy, one's mental capacity expands.

22

הַשִּׂמְחָה הִיא סִימָן שֶׁהוּא זֶרַע בֵּרֵךְ ה'.

22. Joy is a sign that a person is of stock blessed by G-d.

23

הַגְּשָׁמִים יוֹרְדִין בִּזְכוּת שִׂמְחַת חָתָן וְכַלָּה.

23. Rain falls in the merit of bringing joy to the groom and bride.

24

עַל־יְדֵי שִׂמְחָה שֶׁל מִצְוָה הַקָּדוֹשׁ־בָּרוּךְ־הוּא מְסַכֵךְ עָלָיו.

24. Through joy of the Mitzvos, G-d protectively covers (as a roof) over him.

25

עַל־יְדֵי שִׂמְחָה בְּשִׂמְחַת תּוֹרָה זוֹכֶה לַעֲבֹד אֶת הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ בְּאַהֲבָה.

25. Through the joy one has from the joy of the Torah (on the holiday of Simchas Torah), one merits to serve G-d with love.

כְּשֶׁהַשִּׂמְחָה בָּאָה לָאָדָם פִּתְאוֹם, בְּיָדוּעַ שֶׁיָּבוֹא לוֹ חֶסֶד וִישׁוּעָה.

26. When joy comes to a person suddenly, it is certain that kindness and salvation will come to him.

27

עַל־יְדֵי שִׂמְחָה נִתְגַּלָּה כְּבוֹדוֹ שֶׁל אָדָם, גַּם יִזְכֶּה לְדַעַת.

27. Through joy, the honor of a person is revealed, and he also merits knowledge.
