Main teaching
Although those generations drew their sustenance from Arich Anpin, because they did not seek God, the external forces succeeded in drawing sustenance from them.
“My spirit shall not contend in man,” etc. (6:3).
Based on the teaching “And where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” (in Likutay Moharan II, teaching 12); study it carefully there.

The rule is that creation exists chiefly for His glory, blessed be He. And glory is therefore the root of all creation in its entirety. And everything created in the six days of creation has glory as its root, for everything was created for it. And each and every one of the ten utterances with which the world was created contains a particular aspect of glory for which that utterance existed and through which a particular part of creation was created. For the whole earth is full of His glory, for glory gives life to everything. But nevertheless, the glory in each utterance has a boundary preventing it from extending to the places of the external forces and the Other Side, which are the aspect of filthy places, in the aspect of “And My glory I will not give to another.” But if so, where do those places receive vitality? For certainly they too receive vitality from Him, blessed be He. But they receive it from the aspect of “In the beginning,” the concealed utterance encompassing all the utterances, from which they all receive vitality. And the glory of this concealed utterance is concealed and hidden in the utmost concealment.
And precisely from there the Other Side and the places of the external forces receive vitality, etc. And therefore, when a person falls, God forbid, into these places—namely, the aspect of filthy places, etc.—and then begins to look at himself, sees that he is very far from His glory, blessed be He, and asks and seeks, “Where is the place of His glory?” etc., this brings his principal repair and ascent, in the aspect of descent being the ultimate ascent, etc. For “Where is the place of His glory?” is the aspect of the higher glory of the higher utterance, which is the concealed utterance “In the beginning,” as stated above, from which vitality is drawn to these places, etc. Study all this carefully there.
And there is the principal source of length of days, as is known from the writings. For this reason the first generations in the days of Adam and Noach lived long lives, because they received vitality from the aspect of Arich Anpin, the aspect of Keter, which is the aspect of the above concealed utterance, the aspect of “Where?” as is known [note 47].
And from this one can understand somewhat why those above-mentioned first generations were so wicked despite drawing sustenance from such lofty holiness, from Arich Anpin, Keter, as stated above. But in truth, on the contrary, precisely because of this they could not withstand the test. For since their sustenance came from “In the beginning,” the concealed utterance, etc., from which the shells draw sustenance, therefore the hold of the shells drawing sustenance from there grew particularly strong within them. And they should then have searched for and sought God, blessed be He, intensely in those places; and they would then have risen to the ultimate ascent. But they did not withstand the test and did not search for and seek Him properly. And through this, the force of the Other Side, whose sustenance comes from there, took an especially strong hold within them; and because of this they were so wicked.
