וַיְהִי הַיּוֹם בִּשְׁנַת תק"פ סָמוּךְ לְפֶסַח קדֶם ראשׁ חֹדֶשׁ נִיסָן, נִתְיַשַּׁבְתִּי לְדַבֵּר עִם חֲבֵרִי רַבִּי יְהוּדָה אֱלִיעֶזֶר מִזֶּה, וְהִמְתַּקְתִּי עִמּוֹ סוֹד יַחְדָּו שֶׁיִּסַּע עִמִּי יַחַד לְאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל כִּי מִקּדֶם יָדַעְתִּי שֶׁגַּם לְרי"א יֵשׁ לוֹ כִּסּוּפִין לָבוֹא לְאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל וְגַם סִפֵּר לִי שֶׁפַּעַם אַחַת חָלַם לוֹ שֶׁהָיָה לִפְנֵי רַבֵּנוּ זִכְרוֹנוֹ לִבְרָכָה, וְדִבֵּר עִמּוֹ מַה שֶּׁצָּרִיךְ וְאָמַר לוֹ רַבֵּנוּ זִכְרוֹנוֹ לִבְרָכָה שֶׁתִּקּוּנוֹ הוּא שֶׁיִּהְיֶה בְּאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל וְעַל כֵּן נִתְרַצָּה עִמִּי רַבִּי יְהוּדָה אֱלִיעֶזֶר הַנִּזְכָּר לְעֵיל בְּרָצוֹן שָׁלֵם שֶׁיִּסַּע עִמִּי יַחַד לְאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל וְשֶׁיִּתֵּן לִי עֲשָׂרָה אֲדֻמִּים עַל הוֹצָאוֹת בִּשְׁבִילוֹ לְפָחוֹת וּבִקֵּשׁ אוֹתִי מְאד מְאד שֶׁלּא אֶקַּח אַחֵר וְלא אֶסַּע בִּלְעָדוֹ וּדְבָרַי עִם רי"א אָז הָיוּ בְּאפֶן זֶה, שֶׁאַחַר פֶּסַח יֵשׁ בְּדַעְתִּי לִנְסֹעַ לְנִיקוֹלַאיֶב לְבַקֵּשׁ אֶת רַבִּי לֵיבּ דּוּבְּרָאוְונֶער אוּלַי יִתְרַצֶּה לְהוֹצִיא מִכִּיסוֹ מַה שֶּׁצְּרִיכִין עַל הַדְפָּסָה לִגְמר וְאִם יִתְרַצֶּה מַה טּוֹב וְאָז אֶחֱזר לְבֵיתִי וְלא אֶסַּע מִשָּׁם לְאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל, כִּי הַהַדְפָּסָה חֲשׁוּבָה וִיקָרָה בְּעֵינַי מְאד כִּי הוּא זְכוּת הָרַבִּים לְדוֹרוֹת, אַךְ אִם לא אֶזְכֶּה לִפְעל אֶצְלוֹ שֶׁיַּעְזר לִי מַה שֶּׁאֲנִי צָרִיךְ לְצרֶךְ הַדְּפוּס הָעוֹלֶה סָךְ רַב, אָז אֶסַּע מִשָּׁם לְאָדֶס וּמִשָּׁם לְאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל וּמְעַט הַמָּעוֹת שֶׁאֲקַבֵּץ בְּדֶרֶךְ נְסִיעָתִי יִהְיֶה לִי עַל הוֹצָאוֹת לְאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל וְדִבַּרְתִּי כָּל זֶה עִם רַבִּי יְהוּדָה אֱלִיעֶזֶר כְּדֵי שֶׁהוּא יִסַּע עִמִּי אַחַר פֶּסַח לְנִיקוֹלַאיֶב עַל הַסָּפֵק, אוּלַי אֶסַּע מִשָּׁם לְאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל
On Shavuos — on the second day — which was Thursday — there was a great fire in the holy community of Nemirov. And most of the city burned — almost entirely. And several souls perished. And my father may his light shine was greatly ruined — for his house and his wealth and his property burned. But my house where I was living was not burned. And also the man who had owed us the money — and from whom we had collected it on Erev Shavuos — his property also entirely burned. And then we saw His Providence — what He had had pity on us — and had sent Rabbi Leib mentioned above to collect the money on Erev Shavuos. For had he not come then — urgently pressing us — the money would certainly have been lost with that man mentioned above. And the printing would have been cancelled then. And that loss is incalculable. But Hashem Blessed be He had calculated in advance. And He sent that man mentioned above to press us — so that the holy books would be printed — so that their memory would remain for generations of the world — to give merit to Israel forever. Afterward — on Sunday after Shabbas — there was yet again a third fire in Nemirov. And also on that same day there was a fire in Tultchin. And shortly afterward there was a great fire in Berdichev and in other communities. And Rabbainu zichrono livracha had already made this known in the Torah "Bereishis l'Einei Kol Yisroel" [Likutay Tinyanna §67] — where it is explained that when the head of a household passes away — the true Tzadikim — fires come — Heaven forbid — and so on. וַאֲנִי הָיִיתִי מוּכָן אָז לִנְסֹעַ בְּסָמוּךְ לְאוּמַאן עַל עֶרֶב ראשׁ חֹדֶשׁ נִיסָן כְּדַרְכִּי בְּכָל שָׁנָה, וְהָיָה בְּדַעְתִּי לְהִתְעַכֵּב בְּאוּמַן אֵיזֶה יָמִים כְּדֵי לְהַרְבּוֹת שָׁם תְּפִלָּה עַל צִיּוּן רַבֵּנוּ זִכְרוֹנוֹ לִבְרָכָה שֶׁיּוֹרֶה לִי דֶּרֶךְ הָאֱמֶת וִיזַכֵּנִי לָבוֹא לְאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲבָל בְּבוֹאִי לְאוּמַאן וְנִתְעַכַּבְתִּי שָׁם עַד אַחַר שַׁבָּת, אַחַר-כָּךְ הֻכְרַחְתִּי לַחֲזר לְבֵיתִי וְרָאִיתִי שֶׁעוֹמְדִים לְפָנַי מְנִיעוֹת עֲצוּמוֹת, וְקָשֶׁה לִי לָבוֹא לְאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל בָּעִתִּים הַלָּלוּ וְעַל כֵּן בְּבוֹאִי לְבֵיתִי לא דִּבַּרְתִּי עוֹד עִם רַבִּי יְהוּדָה אֱלִיעֶזֶר מִזֶּה, כִּי רָאִיתִי שֶׁלּא אֶסַּע עוֹד אַחַר פֶּסַח לְנִיקוֹלַאיֶב וְכֵן הָיָה שֶׁנִּתְעַכַּבְתִּי וְלא נָסַעְתִּי אַחַר פֶּסַח, וְכָל מַחֲשַׁבְתִּי הָיְתָה מְשׁוֹטֶטֶת מְאד בְּעִנְיַן הַדְּפוּס, וְהָיִיתִי חוֹשֵׁב מַחֲשָׁבוֹת רַבּוֹת בְּכָל פַּעַם אֵיךְ לְהַעֲמִיד הַדְּפוּס וּבְתוֹךְ כָּךְ הָיִיתִי חוֹשֵׁב בְּכָל פַּעַם וְהָיִיתִי מִתְגַּעְגֵּעַ מְאד לְאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל וְכָל מַה שֶּׁעָבַר עָלַי בְּעִנְיָן זֶה אִי אֶפְשָׁר לְבָאֵר וּלְסַפֵּר:
Also on the day after I entered here in Breslov — there was a fire once more a third time in Nemirov. And also on that day there was a fire in Tultchin. And shortly afterward there was a great fire in Berdichev and in other communities.
