On Thursday I woke early and prayed at my inn. And I did not go to the mikveh. And I did not go to his holy grave. And at that time there were no wagons available to hire in the holy community of Uman. For every Wednesday I had asked about wagons — and they answered me that it was hard to find them now because of the bad road conditions. And also everyone was traveling to renew their licenses (for the contracts). And the thought that rose in my mind was to stay in Uman for Shabbas. For I had searched in my heart that I must be very very patient in this journey. But "many thoughts are in a man's heart — yet Hashem's counsel shall stand." And in the morning — after completing the prayer — it occurred to me to hire a wagon to Tiraovitse. And I immediately commanded Rabbi Mendil — together with one more man from our anshei sh'lomaynu of Uman — to go at once and hire a wagon to Tiraovitse. And they went and searched and found with some effort a certain Gentile's wagon. And they brought it to my house. And I hired it. Meanwhile I was called to a meal at Rabbi Yona's mentioned above — in honor of the in-laws who had come to his house to make a match with him. And I went there — I and my companion Rabbi Naftali and Rabbi Moshe. And we sat there together with Rabbi Yona. And he exonerated himself from the Uman dispute — that he bore no responsibility in the matter whatsoever. And this was very necessary for us. And I stayed there at the meal until two or three hours after midday. And I thought that the Gentile had already gone back — because of the long wait. But when I came back to the inn — I found him still standing. And I immediately traveled with him to Tiraovitse. And I slept the night on the road. On Friday morning I rose early and wished to pray the morning prayer there. Afterward I settled myself and traveled to Tiraovitse. And the time was a little pressed to arrive there for prayer. And we were somewhat late for the prayer time. And we came — with Hashem's help — to Tiraovitse at the time when they had just finished praying in the study hall of the Maggid zichrono livracha. And immediately when our anshei sh'lomaynu saw me — they came out to greet me with great joy — as was always their way. And they immediately informed me: behold the chair of Eliyahu the Prophet is ready — and soon they will bring a baby boy to be circumcised — and certainly his honor would be the mohel. And I was filled with joy that I had merited such a mitzvah immediately upon my arrival. And immediately and at once I set aside my tallis and tefillin. And they honored me with the act of the circumcision. And I circumcised the baby according to law. And through this a very great joy and gladness was given to my heart. For I had been very much in doubt whether to travel here for Shabbas at all. And now I saw that my path was right from Hashem — for I had merited such a mitzvah on the road. Which does not fall to me every time on the road. And in particular I immediately recalled that the mitzvah of circumcision has a unity and a connection and a wondrous bond with the holiness of Eretz Yisroel. For Avraham Avinu peace be upon him — at the time he was commanded about circumcision — Hashem Blessed be He then promised him the inheritance of Eretz Yisroel for him and for his descendants after him. As it is brought there (Bereishis 17:9): "and you shall keep My covenant — and I will give to you and to your descendants after you the land of your sojournings" and so on. And as it is written: "and He made with him the covenant to give the land of Canaan" and so on. And for this reason it is customary to sing "Va'yicros" at the time of the covenant of circumcision. And through this I was strengthened and I prayed with some joy and vitality. Blessed be Hashem who helped me until here. And we spent Shabbas there in Tiraovitse at the house of our friend Rabbi Yitzchak — son-in-law of the Maggid. And they also informed me that on Tuesday there would be a circumcision at one of our anshei sh'lomaynu who had recently drawn close. And on holy Shabbas night we rejoiced and danced with Hashem's help. Afterward we went to the seudah of the newborn son. And on holy Shabbas day I returned and said the Torah beginning with "Whoever knows of Eretz Yisroel — who has truly tasted the taste of Eretz Yisroel" [Likutay Tinyanna §40]. And I stayed there in Tiraovitse until Tuesday. And I was the sandek at the circumcision.
