On Monday — Parshas Yisro — we woke early and walked on the river which had frozen overnight — in order to cross to the city on the other side — to go to immerse in the mikveh and pray there in the study hall. And after the prayer I came to the house of Rabbi Yaakov Yosef may his light shine — which was my inn. But he himself had still not come home. And I stayed there in Tcheirin that entire week until Tuesday — Parshas Mishpatim. On Monday — Parshas Yisro — when I came to the house of Rabbi Yaakov Yosef may his light shine — I spoke first with all his household members about the match he had recently made in Brod. And this was necessary for me to know afterward. Then we ate the midday meal. And still neither Rabbi Yudl nor Rabbi Yaakov Yosef had come. And the wagon-driver was pressing to be on his way. And Rabbi Gershon was compelled to return home. And he did not see Rabbi Yudl may his light shine whom he had come for. Afterward I spoke much with Rabbi Ze'ev son of Rabbi Yaakov of Rabbainu zichrono livracha. And he also received my innovations to look them over. And toward the evening Rabbi Yaakov Yosef may his light shine arrived. And he received me with great love — as was always our way.
