Chapter Seventy-Nine: Rosh HaShanah

Rabbi Yisroel and the Chassidim on Erev Rosh HaShanah — singing with great awakening from the melodies of the prayer:

"You were revealed in a cloud of Your glory to Your holy people to speak with them. From the Heavens You made Your voice heard — and You were revealed to them in clouds of purity…"

Ayy yay yay — this melody is from Gan Eden [Paradise]. Such a melody!

Our holy Rabbenu will bring the people of Israel to Hashem through this melody. This melody — this is the world of melody!

Ayy — I remember how the chazan [prayer leader] stood before the pulpit and argued with Hashem thus — with both his hands. Who has seen such a thing!

And Rabbi Yisroel Kardoner would pray the evening prayer of Rosh HaShanah — and the words of the prayer: "And may every creature know that You created it, and may every being understand that You formed it, and may all who have a soul in their nostrils say: Hashem, the G-d of Israel, is King, and His kingship rules over all…" — it was all hisbodedus [private prayer], all emunah and truth and humility. And everything I can say still does not suffice. I heard for many hours how he wept before Hashem — "and may every creature know that You created it." This is the Rosh HaShanah of Rabbenu — that he repairs us. We despair of ourselves — and he renews us, revives us, strengthens us…

I remember that I waited the entire year to hear the melody of Rosh HaShanah. The whole year I waited to hear the chazan say the Shmoneh Esrei: "For You hear every shofar, and You listen and listen and listen to the teruah — and none is like You…" This is the Rosh HaShanah of Rabbenu.

I took this melody and joined it together with Na Nach: simple, doubled, tripled, quadrupled. Ho — the melody is so beautiful! I have still not heard such a melody — Na Nach. Na Nach — this melody is new. This is of Rabbenu — of Rosh HaShanah. It makes known: "Hashem is King — Hashem was King — Hashem will be King forever and ever." This is the melody!

Hoy — what Hashem has done for us: He had mercy on us and gave us the true tzadik — our holy Rabbenu. And what he does with us on Rosh HaShanah…

The Tikun HaKlali [the General Repair — the Ten Psalms] at the holy grave of Rabbenu: this is such a repair that we have no conception!

All year one commits transgressions and desires — and he cleanses it all, purifies it all. "I am the river that purifies from all stains!"

The entire world — every person — is full of stains. He comes to Rabbenu before Rosh HaShanah and tells him all his troubles. Then our holy Rabbenu prepares his Rosh HaShanah for him already. Our holy Rabbenu passes through on the night of Rosh HaShanah with all his people — he passes them first in the judgment. Such a good defense-attorney that he makes us new — new people, a new world!

Oy oy — so pleasant is the word "Uman." Light, light and beautiful — Uman…

Now — now, blessed be Hashem, it has been revealed in the world that the entire world can come to our holy Rabbenu in Uman. In three hours — in two and a half hours — from Lod to Uman.

Nu — one sees such a miracle! The whole world knows that for seventy or eighty years Uman was closed. There was no possibility of even thinking it could be opened. And now it is open to the entire world. One sees that the Communism was so strong — and now the Communism is no more. They are all with him in the grave. Uman was the one city in the world that was impossible for any human being to reach. One could reach America, France, the whole world — Uman: no. Great Englishmen, wise men — to Uman it was impossible to arrive. For they hated religion — the haters would not allow access to Uman. If one succeeded in reaching Uman — all the journalists, the whole world — would speak of it: "Ho — someone succeeded in reaching Uman."

People would request a visa and the Communism would say to the entire world: "Where do you want to reach — to Uman? No! Uman — no!"

And we arrived in Uman in secret and with great suffering — we suffered very much. Whoever came to Rabbenu on Rosh HaShanah had great miracles in how he remained alive. And blessed be Hashem — all returned in peace. But now Rabbenu said to the Communism to go — to go to Russia. One does not know where they are — not one of the Communism remains. They all went to the grave. Without a bullet, without a war — their end came. They went for ever and ever!

Suddenly Uman was opened to the entire world. Now our holy Rabbenu said to the Communists to enter the grave — and he conquered the entire world. He is in Uman and whoever wants can come to Rabbenu. Whoever wants — there is Uman, there is Na Nach Nachma Nachman MayUman. So it has already been revealed — it exists in the world.

Such a wonder — that each person can come to Rabbenu. And he repairs us, helps us, revives us. He gives us wisdom and intellect and knowledge and such light as has never existed. Our holy Rabbenu becomes famous and revealed to the entire world. Each person can come — even without a visa. What — are we mad? Why do we need all the troubles?

Master of the Universe — he proclaims and makes known to the entire world that there is Uman in the world. What do you think! Airplanes will come from England, from France, from Russia, from Italy. They will come from America — from all the countries, from all the places, from all the world. All will come to Uman. All the airplanes will arrive in Uman — all the airplanes from the entire world will come to Uman for Erev Rosh HaShanah. The airplanes will keep coming all day. Ho — there will be joy throughout the entire world: "There is Uman — there is Uman in the world!"

Rabbenu said — at a time when the entire world did not understand how it is possible to be in the air — our holy Rabbenu said there would be travel by airplane. He revealed the airplane two hundred years ago. He revealed this while the entire world did not yet know of it — they did not believe it would be possible to travel through the air. How?

This is one of the signs of Mashiach — that there will be such a vehicle that travels through the air. Whoever finds it hard to pray and serve Hashem — let him travel to Mashiach that he pray on his behalf, that he illuminate within him.

And now one can travel round-trip to Uman for free — round-trip. Who will pay — we do not know. Whoever will pay will pay. The money is nothing — the essential is Uman. Round-trip to Uman for free. There will be a direct route from Lod straight to Uman. All will come to me — all the airplanes and all the wealthy. All the money will come to Uman. All will come to Uman in Russia and all the dollars will go to the Russians — all the dollars of America. They will come more and more and more. The Russians will be renewed each year — they will see that each year more come than the previous year. They will be very happy — they will convert. All the Russians will see it is good. Uman will be very great. From the entire world they will come to Rabbenu on Rosh HaShanah in Uman — even if there will be a divorce. So said our holy Rabbenu. He said: "All must be very careful to come to me every Rosh HaShanah" — to Uman. In Uman — there are all the blessings, all the healings, and all the salvations!

All the world will come — and the gentiles will receive money and give us the bones of our holy Rabbenu. They need money — they want money. They are very poor with nothing to eat — so for money they will give everything. The government will give money and the gentiles will give the bones.

Now I am one hundred and fourteen years old. Blessed be Hashem — I was in Russia at the grave of our holy Rabbenu on Rosh HaShanah. And great miracles — that I came out alive — for I am already weak and old. But our holy Rabbenu renews me…

The entire world will rejoice and sing our melodies. There will be great joy in Yerushalayim, in Uman, and throughout all the world. All the world — all the experts in music — say: "Such melodies as Breslov — there are none!"

The great geniuses say: "Like Rabbi Nachman — there is none!"

He is all the Torah and all of Israel. He is the repair of all Israel — he will repair even heretics who are entirely remote from Judaism, from the Torah. He will draw them close and from them will come great tzadikim. The entire world will come to Rabbenu — there will be many synagogues and they will study and dance and there will be such joy…

Will there be techiyas hameisim [resurrection of the dead]? The entire world will come to our holy Rabbenu on Rosh HaShanah — and how it will be and what it will be: there will be no room! If so — one does not need to travel to Uman. Yerushalayim — there must only be room for the entire world to have somewhere to stand. All the world will come and there will be great miracles and wonders. All the airplanes — however many there are in the world — will not suffice to transport people to our holy Rabbenu in Yerushalayim!

Ho — what a wedding we will have! I cannot laugh so much — I do not have the strength…

The world will travel to Uman? The entire world will travel to Yerushalayim! Either Yerushalayim or Uman — or Yerushalayim or Uman. Our holy Rabbenu is here and he will come here — and there will be wonders, wonders! We already see wonders — Na Nach! We merited to Na Nach! The entire world did not know of Na Nach. Only our holy Rabbenu himself revealed this. Do you know who I am? "I am Na Nach Nachma Nachman MayUman!" He informed us — revealed to us…

All those who did not merit to draw close to Rabbenu — oy, they will have Gehinnom [purgatory]. Such Gehinnom! They abandoned such a new treasure as has never existed in the world. Our holy Rabbenu informed us — revealed to us a drop from the sea of who he is. He is Na Nach Nachma Nachman MayUman. All the scholars did not seek and did not see and do not know. We still do not know — but we will know soon — more than all the world.

He will repair the entire world. All the repairs depend only on drawing close to Rabbenu. All the repair of the entire world — of ours, of the entire world — depends only on drawing close to Rabbenu!

I still do not know where I will be on Rosh HaShanah because I am sick — I do not know where. But I want to be with the people who are drawing close to Rabbenu. I was in Uman last year and the year before — and this year… perhaps I will be in Yerushalayim. We will see…

I prayed all the days of my life with Rabbi Yisroel Kardoner at Rashbi's grave [Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai in Meron]. And now Yerushalayim has been captured — perhaps his holy will is that we be in Yerushalayim at the Western Wall. The Western Wall — this is the place of all the tzadikim, of all the souls…

Our holy Rabbenu revealed to the entire world who is the leader of Israel — Na Nach Nachma Nachman MayUman. This is the leader of all Israel from the day of the creation of the world. He is the Rebbi!

Our holy Rabbenu said a Torah teaching in the Likutay Moharan — what did he say? He said: who is the Rebbi of Israel? My name is Nachman — Na Nach Nachma Nachman MayUman. This is the Rebbi of all Israel!

So is written in Likutay Moharan: "Rosh Bnei Yisroel" ["the head of the children of Israel"] — its initials spell Rabbi. He is the Rebbi. He revealed this before all — the Likutay Moharan — to all of Israel: "Rosh Bnei Yisroel — its initials spell Rabbi." He knows how to be a Rebbi.

Who is the Rebbi? The head of the children of Israel — he is the Rebbi: Rabbi Nachman of Breslov. He is the Rebbi! Who is the head of the children of Israel? Na Nach Nachma Nachman MayUman — he is the head of the children of Israel. He is the Rebbi!

This our holy Rabbenu himself revealed — that he is our Rebbi, the Rebbi of all of Israel. He is our Rebbi — he is no liar. He is the Rebbi. He became the Rebbi — he was always the Rebbi. But he was in the darkness and no one grasped him. But now one can already speak of him every day, at every time, whenever one wishes. Already the entire world loves and wants our holy Rabbenu — without effort, without rabbis. The matter happens by itself. This is our holy Rabbenu.

Our holy Rabbenu has already revealed who the Rebbi is. Who is the Rebbi? Na Nach Nachma Nachman MayUman. Our holy Rabbenu will repair the entire world with his Name — Na Nach. Na Nach is sufficient for the entire world. In this Name — Na Nach Nachma Nachman MayUman — is all the Torah, all the wisdoms, all… everything!

Such words have not existed since the day of the creation of the world. Only our holy Rabbenu brought them to the Western Wall…

I merited to know people of truth — students of our holy Rabbenu…

I saw all the liars — none remained. Only our holy Rabbenu: he is the Rebbi. All the great ones will be ashamed and entirely annulled. All the great ones and all the rabbis will all go in disgrace. They thought they were the Rebbi — now we will see…

All will be annulled and ashamed before Rabbenu — all the great ones, all the geniuses. They will say: "We have sinned, we have done wrong, we have transgressed, we have betrayed, we have acted wickedly…"

All the geniuses and great ones of the world will be ashamed and entirely annulled before Rabbenu — before one man. One word from the Likutay Moharan conquers all of them — the entire world. One word!

"I have finished and I will finish" — no tzadik ever said this. Only our holy Rabbenu!

All were opponents. Rabbenu came: "I will conquer the entire world. I — I — I — I am the Rebbi. I — I — I — I…" And the entire world will be ashamed!

He will ask all the great ones — he will ask all the rabbis: "Who is the Rebbi?"

He will ask all the great ones — he will ask all the rabbis: "Who is the Rebbi?"

And so all will say: "You — Rebbi! Not the liars! You are the Rebbi!"

Blessed be Hashem — our holy Rabbenu will tell them who the Rebbi is: "Rosh Bnei Yisroel — its initials spell Rabbi." Now the liars will say: "The Rebbi is our holy Rabbenu Rabbi Nachman! He is the Rebbi!"

Our righteous Mashiach will reveal Rabbenu — will reveal who our Rebbi is. Mashiach will ask all the great ones and all the geniuses: "Who is the Rebbi?"

Then all will say: "The Rebbi? You are the Rebbi!"

There will not be one who says the Rebbi is this one or that one — only regarding our holy Rabbenu: all will agree!

All will come to the Wall and ask and say: "Who is the Rebbi?"

All will say: "The Rebbi is the head of the children of Israel!" Our holy Rabbenu already revealed who the Rebbi is: "Rosh Bnei Yisroel — its initials spell Rabbi." He is the Rebbi. He did not say this casually. Whoever revealed this — it is he! (And Rabbi Yisroel indicated with the palm of his hand upon himself…)
