בָּרוּךְ הַשֵּׁם, יוֹם ה' פָּרָשַׁת עֵקֶב תרכ"ט פֹּה, עִיר הַקֹּדֶשׁ צְפָת תִּבָּנֶה וְתִכּוֹנֵן בִּמְהֵרָה בְּיָמֵינוּ אָמֵן סֶלָה.
Your letter I received twice — and I exult over your utterance as one who finds great spoil [Tehillim 119:162]. My innards rejoice at your lips speaking uprightly [Tehillim 23:16]. You gave me life with your words — in what you wrote that you are engaging in Torah and prayer and in the books of our Master, of blessed memory, and that you are in joy — for for this my soul has yearned. Would that this heart of yours be so — to fear Hashem all the days of your life — and to add each day and each time in holiness and purity and in strengthening of the service of Hashem more and more — for apart from this everything is vanity, for our days are like a passing shadow, and the day is short and the work is much, and if not now — when?
מֵאֶרֶץ הַחַיִּים אֶקְרָא לְשָׁלוֹם יְדִיד נַפְשִׁי יִקְרַת לְבָבִי כְּבוֹד הָרַבָּנִי הַמֻּפְלָא הַוָּתִיק הַנָּגִיד הַמְהֻלָּל כְּבוֹד שֵׁם תִּפְאַרְתּוֹ מוֹרֵנוּ הָרַב אַבְרָהָם אַבָּא נֵרוֹ יָאִיר.
Be strong, my son, and courageous with all your strength to go in the straight and true path that our great and holy Master taught us — may the memory of the righteous and holy one be for a blessing — for it is your life and the length of your days, for all eternity and for everlasting eternities. And beyond this it is impossible to elaborate in writing — go out and look and absorb yourself in the books of our Master, of blessed memory — and you will find there everything your soul asks of you: counsel and guidance and paths in the service of Hashem. Turn them over and turn them over — and from them do not stir — for you have no better quality than them.
יִשָּׂא בְּרָכָה מֵאֵת ה' לְפָקְדוֹ לְטוֹבָה בְּכָל הָעִנְיָנִים שֶׁלּוֹ. עֲדֵי יִזְכֶּה לְטוֹב אֲמִתִּי וְנִצְחִי בָּזֶה וּבַבָּא מֵעַתָּה וְלָנֶצַח אָמֵן כֵּן יְהִי רָצוֹן.
Know, my beloved son, that thank G-d five forims (signatures — gatherings of printed pages) of the Teffilos are already completed, and now we are working on the sixth. May Hashem complete it for us. And all of them are greatly occupied with the printing — for it is known that we are running the press without hired workers: only Rabbi Mendil, and Rabbi Chayyim Nachum, and the young man Yitzchok Yehoshua — and also my veteran son, our Teacher the Rabbi Shakhnah — may his light shine and radiate — helps a great deal each time, but not on a fixed basis. Therefore the work proceeds slowly and gradually. May Hashem Yisborach be with us to complete it in perfection speedily.
יְדִידִי, דִּמִּיתִי לְקַבֵּל מִכְתָּבוֹ מֵאַדֶעס כְּהַבְטָחָתוֹ וְלֹא זָכִיתִי, כֵן בָּאתִי לְהַבְטָחָתִי לְהַנְטוֹת לוֹ מִכְתָּבִי לְאוּמַאן. וְיֵדַע כְּבוֹדוֹ אֲשֶׁר אַחַר נְסִיעָתָם מִבֵּיתִי הָיִיתִי כַּמָּה יָמִים כִּמְבֻלְבָּל לְרֹב תְּשׁוּקָתִי לְאַהֲבָתָם, מַמָּשׁ כָּלָה כֹּחִי, אֲשֶׁר בְּרֹב כֹּחַ הֻכְרַחְתִּי לֶאֱזֹר כְּגִבּוֹר חֲלָצַי לַעֲמֹד עַל מִשְׁמַרְתִּי לַעֲבוֹדָתִי לְהַתְמָדַת לִמּוּדִי הַטּוֹב. זֶה חֶלְקִי מִכָּל עֲמָלִי, וְהַכֹּל בְּכֹחַ כְּבוֹד אֲדוֹנֵנוּ מוֹרֵנוּ וְרַבֵּנוּ הַנַּחַל נוֹבֵעַ מְקוֹר חָכְמָה זֵכֶר צַדִּיק וְקָדוֹשׁ לִבְרָכָה, וּזְכוּת כְּבוֹד אֲדוֹנִי אָבִי מוֹרִי וְרַבִּי תַּלְמִידוֹ הַקָּדוֹשׁ זללה"ה זְכוּתוֹ יָגֵן עָלֵינוּ. כֵּן יְהִי ה' עִמָּדִי מֵעַתָּה וְלָנֶצַח לִזְכּוֹת לִשְׁקֹד עַל תַּכְלִיתִי הַנִּצְחִי כָּרָאוּי, וּלְהַחֲיוֹת אֶת נַפְשִׁי עִם כָּל הַטּוֹב הַנִּמְצָא אִתָּנוּ, לְבַלּוֹת נַפְשִׁי בְּתוֹרָה וּתְפִלָּה וּמַעֲשִׂים טוֹבִים עַל יְדֵי כָּל הַדְּרָכִים הַקְּדוֹשׁוֹת שֶׁלָּנוּ, וְלָדַעַת וּלְהַאֲמִין תָּמִיד אֲשֶׁר טוֹב ה' לַכֹּל. וְהִנֵּה בִּנְסִיעָתָם הַטּוֹבָה לְפֹה הִצְלִיחוּ וְגַם עָשׂוּ פְּרִי. אֲשֶׁר כְּבוֹד יְדִידֵינוּ הַיָּקָר הָרַב מֵאִיר נֵרוֹ יָאִיר נִתְעוֹרֵר מִזֶּה, וְאָזַר כְּגִבּוֹר חֲלָצָיו וְשָׂם נַפְשׁוֹ בְּכַפָּיו לָבוֹא לְאוּמַאן לִזְכּוֹת לִהְיוֹת נִמְנֶה בֵּין הַקִּבּוּץ שֶׁלָּנוּ הַמִּתְאַסְּפִים לְשָׁם עַל רֹאשׁ הַשָּׁנָה הַקָּדוֹשׁ הַבָּא עָלֵינוּ לְטוֹבָה, לְהִסְתּוֹפֵף בְּצֵל כְּבוֹד הַנַּחַל נוֹבֵעַ מְקוֹר חָכְמָה זֵכֶר צַדִּיק וְקָדוֹשׁ לִבְרָכָה, זְכוּתוֹ יָגֵן עָלֵינוּ הַשּׁוֹכֵן בְּשָׁם. יְהִי ה' עִמּוֹ, וְיַצְלִיחוֹ בְּדַרְכּוֹ לְשָׁלוֹם, וְיִזְכֶּה לָבוֹא לִמְבֻקָּשׁוֹ הַטּוֹב כְּכָל אֲשֶׁר עִם לְבָבוֹ, וְלָשׁוּב לְבֵיתוֹ בְּחַיִּים וְשָׁלוֹם לַעֲמֹד עַל מִשְׁמַרְתּוֹ בְּתוֹרָה וּתְפִלָּה וּמַעֲשִׂים טוֹבִים בְּיֶתֶר שְׂאֵת וּבְחַיּוּת נִפְלָא כִּרְצוֹנוֹ הַטּוֹב. וְיֵדַע יְדִידִי אֲשֶׁר הֱיוֹתָם פֹּה עָשָׂה רֹשֶׁם גָּדוֹל לְחִבַּת הָאָרֶץ. וְכַמָּה יָמִים אַחַר נָסְעָם, בְּכָל עֵת הִלּוּכִי דֶּרֶךְ הָעִיר שָׁמַעְתִּי קוֹל בְּרָכָה עֲלֵיהֶם מִכַּמָּה וְכַמָּה אֲנָשִׁים בְּאַהֲבָה רַבָּה, וְהָיָה לְנַחַת רוּחַ לְנַפְשִׁי. כֵּן יַצְלִיחֵם ה' לְטוֹב לָהֶם כָּל הַיָּמִים.
And there are many obstacles on account of lack of funds, as you know of this.
וְיָתֵר מִזֶּה אֵין מַה לְּחַדֵּשׁ, בִּפְרָט כִּי יִשְׁמַע הַכֹּל מֵאֵת יְדִידֵנוּ הַנַּ"ל. וְחוּץ לָזֶה אֵין דַּעְתִּי צְלוּלָה קְצָת, לַאֲשֶׁר לֹא קִבַּלְתִּי מִכְתָּב מִבָּנַי שֶׁיִּחְיוּ עֵת רַב, הַיְנוּ כָּתְבוּ לִי מִכְתָּב בְּיוֹם ג' תַּזְרִיעַ. וּמֵאַחַר מִכְתָּב זֶה לֹא הִשַּׂגְתִּי שׁוּם תֵּבָה אַחַת. וְנֶעְלָם מִמֶּנִּי כָּל הַנַּעֲשֶׂה בְּשָׁם בְּכָל הַקַּיִץ הַלָּזֶה. וְהַאֻמְנָם שֶׁיֵּשׁ לִי בְּוַדַּאי בִּלְבּוּל גַּם מִדְּחִיקַת פַּרְנָסָתִי אֲשֶׁר אֲנִי מְצַפֶּה לְקַבֵּל אֵיזֶה סַךְ דֶּרֶךְ יָדָם, וְעַל כָּל פָּנִים הַסַּךְ הַמַּגִּיעַ לִי מֵהֶם בְּעַצְמָם, עִם כָּל זֶה אֵין נֶחֱשָׁב לִי זֹאת לְאֶחָד מֵאֶלֶף נֶגֶד הָעַגְמַת נֶפֶשׁ שֶׁיֵּשׁ לִי מֵעִכּוּב מִכְתָּבָם מִשְּׁלוֹמָם הַטּוֹב. אַךְ מִסְּתָמָא הַכֹּל מֵאֵת ה', כֵּן הוּא יִתְבָּרַךְ יְרַחֵם עָלַי וְיִתֵּן דַּעַת בְּלִבִּי לְהָסִיר מִמֶּנִּי בִּלְבּוּלִים כָּאֵלֶּה, לְמַעַן אוּכַל לַעֲמֹד עַל מִשְׁמַרְתִּי לַעֲסֹק בַּעֲבוֹדָתִי אוֹתוֹ יִתְבָּרַךְ בְּטוּב טַעַם וָדַעַת, וּבְבִטְחוֹנִי בְּאַהֲבָתוֹ כַּאֲשֶׁר אִם יִרְצֶה הַשֵּׁם יִתְוַעֵד עִמָּהֶם אִם יִרְצֶה הַשֵּׁם בְּאוּמַאן, כֵּן יְדַבֵּר עִמָּהֶם בְּאַהֲבָה מִכֹּחַ דְּרִישַׁת שְׁלוֹמִי כַּאֲשֶׁר נִדְבַּר בֵּינֵינוּ, וְלִהְיוֹת עִמָּם לְטוֹבָתִי כְּהַבְטָחָתוֹ בְּכָל הָעִנְיָנִים. וַה' הַטּוֹב יַצְלִיחַ כִּרְצוֹנוֹ יִתְבָּרַךְ. וּמְאֹד בַּקָּשָׁתִי שְׁטוּחָה לְהַזְכִּירֵנִי לְטוֹב בְּכָל עֵת הֱיוֹתוֹ עַל צִיּוּן הַקָּדוֹשׁ, וּבִפְרָט בְּעֶרֶב רֹאשׁ הַשָּׁנָה הַבָּא עָלֵינוּ לְטוֹבָה, כִּי אָנֹכִי אֲקַשֵּׁר עַצְמִי בְּנַפְשִׁי וְרוּחִי וְנִשְׁמָתִי אֶל הַקִּבּוּץ הַקָּדוֹשׁ שֶׁלָּנוּ, יְהִי חֶלְקִי עִמָּהֶם. וְיֵדַע נֶאֱמָנָה אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי מַזְכִּירוֹ בְּכָל עֵת לְטוֹבָה עַל כָּל הַמְּקוֹמוֹת הַקְּדוֹשִׁים. יַקְשִׁיב ה' תְּפִלּוֹתֵינוּ לְטוֹב לָנוּ כָּל הַיָּמִים, לְתַכְלִיתֵנוּ הַנִּצְחִי בָּזֶה וּבַבָּא לָנֶצַח, וּבָזֶה אֲסַיֵּם וְאֹמַר שָׁלוֹם.
The words of your father, who always awaits hearing the good from you — and the essential good is the true and eternal good.
