(מח) אמר בואו ונחזיק טובה לרמאים שעל ידי המחלקת שחולקים עלינו באנו לדברים גדולים, והם עושים לנו טובה גדולה. כי כן הדבר שעל ידי המחלקת באים ומשיגים דברים גדולים. כמו שמצינו שאמרו רבותינו זכרונם לברכה (תמורה טז.): שבימי אבלו של משה נשתכחו שלש מאות הלכות וכו', ושאל יהושע להקדוש ברוך הוא ואמר לו, לאמרן לך אי אפשר צא וטרדן במלחמה. ועתניאל בן קנז החזירן בפלפולו, ועתניאל היה איש מלחמה כמו שמצינו שאמר כלב (יהושע טו): אשר ילכד את חברון ונתתי לו את עכסה בתי, וילכדה עתניאל בן קנז. נמצא שעל ידי המלחמה זכה להחזיר ההלכות שנשתכחו:
