One must remember very well, very well, all the days of his life, every single day — the magnitude of the kindnesses of the Omnipresent that He performed with him, and the awesome causes He arranged through His stratagems to bring him close to the true Tzadik, who took him out from the place from which he took him out. And to know that Hashem is still with him, and will never remove His kindness from him forever. And even though what is still passing over him is passing — nonetheless the kindness and the good that Hashem Yisburach performed with him is certainly not in vain, Heaven forbid. And in the end Hashem Yisburach will complete His own work, and he will merit to return to his source in perfection — through the greatness and the merit and the power of the Tzadik. Through the holy, wondrous, and awesome light of the holy Chanukah candle, we draw upon ourselves the light of the true Tzadik — who has already drawn down [alternate version: who drew down] the wholeness of the redemption that will come through our righteous Moshiach. The essential coming of Moshiach is to reveal truth in the world — for now the truth is in a great exile, and each one says that the truth is with him. And the essential truth will be revealed through Moshiach. Falsehood is the aspect of death, and truth is the elixir of life — and therefore the clarification of truth from within falsehood is the aspect of the resurrection of the dead. [Truth is the aspect of proper order — meaning that things are stated as they actually are, which is the aspect of proper order. But falsehood is the aspect of improper order, since it alters the matter and the narrative from its true order.]

עִקַּר כָּל הַכְּפִירוֹת וְהָאֶפִּיקוֹרְסוּת שֶׁל חַכְמֵי הַטֶּבַע שֶׁנִּתְעוּ לְמָקוֹם שֶׁנִּתְעוּ, הוּא עַל-יְדֵי פְּגַם אֱמוּנַת חִדּוּשׁ הָעוֹלָם, שֶׁעַל-יְדֵי פְּגָם זֶה בָּאִים לְכָל מִינֵי טָעוּתִים. וְעִקַּר הַכְנָעָתָם וּבִטּוּל דַּעְתָּם הוּא עַל-יְדֵי הַצַּדִּיק הָאֱמֶת הַגָּדוֹל בַּמַּעֲלָה מְאֹד בְּחִינַת משֶׁה מָשִׁיחַ, שֶׁמַּמְשִׁיךְ תּוֹרָה כְּדֵי לְהָאִיר וּלְגַלּוֹת אֱמוּנַת חִדּוּשׁ הָעוֹלָם, וּלְבַטֵּל וְלַעְקֹר דֵּעוֹת חַכְמֵי הַטֶּבַע שֶׁכּוֹפְרִים בְּחִדּוּשׁ הָעוֹלָם.

The essential commandment of the Chanukah candle is to kindle and to illuminate the light of truth in the world — that all should merit to know where truth is. Which kindles and illuminates all the souls of Israel with the light of Moshiach in every kind of darkness and blackness, and nullifies all the darkenings and all the fallen loves (ahavas ha-nefoalin), and rescues them from the flood of mighty waters that grow stronger every time to destroy the world, to cause them to forget the Torah.

עֹצֶם נוֹרָאוֹת גְּבוּרָתוֹ וְכֹחוֹ שֶׁל הַצַּדִּיק הָאֱמֶת הַבַּעַל כֹּחַ הוּא בְּחִינַת מַטֶּה עֹז שֶׁעוֹמֵד בְּחֹזֶק וְתֹקֶף בְּתוֹךְ בֵּית הַבְּלִיעָה שֶׁל הַסִּטְרָא אָחֳרָא, בְּתוֹךְ הָרוּחַ שְׁטוּת, עַד שֶׁמֻּכְרַחַת לְהָקִיא הַקָּאוֹת בְּכָל פַּעַם עַד שֶׁגַּם אֵלּוּ הָרְחוֹקִים וְהַגְּרוּעִים בְּיוֹתֵר שֶׁכְּבָר הִזְקִינוּ בְּרִשְׁעָתָם וְנִתְעַבּוּ וְנִתְגַּשְּׁמוּ מְאֹד וְנִבְלְעוּ בְּתוֹךְ בֶּטֶן הַסִּטְרָא אָחֳרָא שֶׁכִּמְעַט כִּמְעַט אָבְדָה תִּקְוָתָם וְתוֹחַלְתָּם, בָּאִים וּמִתְקָרְבִים לַה' יִתְבָּרַךְ וְנִתוֹסְפִים שְׁכֵנִים רַבִּים לְהַקִּבּוּץ הַקָּדוֹשׁ שֶׁל הַצַּדִּיק, וְעַל-יְדֵי זֶה דַּיְקָא נַעֲשָׂה תִּקּוּן נִפְלָא בְּכָל פַּעַם עַד שֶׁסּוֹף כָּל סוֹף יִתָּקֵן הַכֹּל.

Hashem Yisburach in His mercy conducts Himself with His kindness in every generation through the great true Tzadik and his truly worthy people. For there are times when they seize people and take them out from places that are very distant and very sullied, and begin to purify them and to bring them close to Hashem Yisburach, and illuminate great lights within them — great lights with a great illumination. Even though many fall afterwards from their level, Heaven have mercy — even so they strive to bring close more and more every time. For "And You, Hashem, are exalted forever" [Psalms 92:9] — His hand is always uppermost, until in the end everything will be repaired in perfection. [Now our exile has greatly prolonged itself upon us] Now in the enormity of the extremity of the darkness — when truth is absent, and those who depart from evil are deemed mad, and those who fear sin are despised — and for the most part the people of truth are greatly persecuted, because of the accusation against the true Tzadik — the essential repair is not to enter into investigations and difficulties and answers at all, but only to look upon the truth of truth, and to guard oneself from being trapped in the net of the persecutors, in the slipperiness of their tongues and their wisdom and their mockery. All of which is harder than physical persecution — for the obstruction of the mind is harder than everything.

בְּהוֹקָרָה וְאַהֲבָה וְגַעְגּוּעִים.

Whoever wishes to enter into the sea of wisdom — it is impossible to enter it except through a true guide who knows all the paths and routes within the sea of wisdom, and who fashions ships with wondrous wisdom and skill, with which to sail upon the sea of wisdom. For one who does not receive from the true Rebbe — who is the aspect of Moshe — the aspect of the contraction and the partitions of the intellect: not to enter to comprehend more than is fitting, and not to enter into investigations and difficulties and answers, etc., but rather to rely upon faith — and who then wishes to enter into the sea of wisdom: he will certainly be submerged and drowned within the sea, both spiritually and physically. And this is the essential miracle of the splitting of the Sea of Reeds — that the sea of wisdom was split for them spiritually through the power and the merit of Moshe Rabbainu, peace be upon him, and they merited to pass through it in peace. And similarly the sea was split for them physically: "and they passed on dry ground through the midst of the sea" [Exodus 14:22]. And the essential was through the illumination of the aspect of silence upon them — not to have doubts about His conduct Yisburach — the aspect of "Hashem shall fight for you, and you shall be silent" [Exodus 14:14].
