תּוֹרָה קט - אֲנָחָה דִּקְדֻשָּׁה א. אֲנָחָה דִּקְדֻשָּׁה יְקָרָה מְאֹד, כִּי עַל־יְדֵי שֶׁמִּתְאַנֵּחַ עַל שֶׁרָחוֹק מֵהַקְּדֻשָּׁה, עַל־יְדֵי־זֶה נִפְסָק מֵחֶבֶל הַטֻּמְאָה וְנִתְקַשֵּׁר לְחֶבֶל דִּקְדֻשָּׁה, וְכֵן כְּשֶׁמִּתְאַנֵּחַ עַל אֵיזֶה דְּבַר תַּאֲוָה שֶׁהוּא נִכְסָף אֵלֶיהָ, הוּא לְהֵפֶךְ חַס וְשָׁלוֹם: ב. אֲנָחָה שֶׁמִּתְאַנֵּחַ הָאָדָם עַל עֲווֹנוֹתָיו אוֹ עַל מִעוּט הַשָּׂגָתוֹ, הִיא יוֹתֵר טוֹבָה מִכַּמָּה סִגּוּפִים וְתַעֲנִיּוֹת: [עַל־יְדֵי אֲנָחָה נַעֲשֶׂה הָאָדָם בְּרִיָּה חֲדָשָׁה מַמָּשׁ].
A holy sigh is very precious. For through sighing over being distant from holiness — through this one is severed from the rope of impurity and bound to the rope of holiness. But when one sighs over some matter of desire that one longs for — it is the opposite — G-d forbid. A sigh with which a person sighs over his transgressions or over the smallness of his attainment — is better than many mortifications and fasts. [Through a sigh a person literally becomes a new creation.]
