This reader has a human interface, but every reader page also has static crawlable text. For any book, use /reader-plain/<book>/full.txt to search the complete work, or /reader-plain/<book>/<part>/<section>/index.txt for one section. This is sitewide and works for all reader teachings, not just this page.

Pure thoughts are the aspect of pure animals — and evil thoughts are the aspect of impure animals. And the battle a person has in one's mind regarding thoughts is literally a battle between the pure and impure animals. And it is arranged with intention from above that they should defeat one another. For the Holy One, blessed be He, has great delight when they battle one another — and the person overpowers the impure animals and defeats them.

The general principle: it is impossible in any way for two thoughts to be together simultaneously. Therefore one can easily banish evil thoughts — simply by sitting still and not acting [shev v'al ta'aseh] — that is, not thinking that thought. Rather — think some other thought — in Torah or service — or even commerce and the like — drawing one's thought to some other thought. And through this one will automatically be rid of the troubling thoughts and the evil thought that came upon one. For it is impossible for two thoughts to be together simultaneously. And it has already been explained that one does not need to shake one's head back and forth in order to banish evil thoughts — for this helps not at all. Rather one should think another thought as above — and not look back at all.
