א. הַמַּחֲשָׁבָה גָּבֹהַּ מְאֹד, וּמִי שֶׁרוֹצֶה לַחֲשֹׁב מַחֲשָׁבוֹת קְדוֹשׁוֹת לַעֲלוֹת לְעוֹלַם הַמַּחֲשָׁבָה, אָז הוּא צָרִיךְ לִשְׁתֹּק לְגַמְרֵי, כִּי אֲפִלּוּ אִם יְדַבֵּר אָז דִּבּוּר הָגוּן הוּא מַפְסִיד אֶת הַמַּחֲשָׁבָה, אַךְ אֲפִלּוּ אִם יִשְׁתֹּק לְגַמְרֵי, עֲדַיִן יֵשׁ בִּלְבּוּלִים הַרְבֵּה שֶׁמְּבַלְבְּלִין הַמַּחֲשָׁבָה, וְעַל זֶה צְרִיכִין טַהֲרַת הַמַּחֲשָׁבָה: [וְזֶה וְאִם רָץ לְבָבְךָ וְכוּ' בְּלוֹם פִּיךָ (ספר יצירה פרק א)].
Thought is very exalted. And one who wishes to think holy thoughts — to ascend to the world of thought — must then be completely silent. For even if one speaks a fitting word at that time — it disrupts the thought. But even if one is completely silent — there are still many confusions that confuse the thought. And for this — purity of thought is needed. [And this is: ""and if your heart races — seal your mouth"" (Sefer Yetzirah, ch. 1).]
ב. לִזְכּוֹת לְטָהֳרַת הַמַּחֲשָׁבָה הוּא עַל־יְדֵי סִפּוּרֵי מַעֲשִׂיּוֹת מִצַּדִּיקִים, הַיְנוּ שֶׁיְּסַפֵּר מַה שֶּׁנַּעֲשָׂה עִמָּהֶם וְאֶת כָּל הַגְּדוֹלוֹת אֲשֶׁר עָשׂוּ, כִּי זֶה הוּא דָּבָר גָּדוֹל מְאֹד, כִּי עַל־יְדֵי־זֶה נִטְהָר מַחֲשַׁבְתּוֹ, וְעַל־יְדֵי־זֶה מַמְתִּיק הַדִּינִים וְנִצּוֹל מִכָּל הַצָּרוֹת, אֲבָל אִי אֶפְשָׁר לְסַפֵּר מַעֲשִׂיּוֹת מִצַּדִּיקִים, כִּי אִם מִי שֶׁיּוֹדֵעַ לְהַבְדִּיל בֵּין הָאוֹר וּבֵין הַחֹשֶׁךְ, דְּהַיְנוּ בֵּין מַעֲשִׂיּוֹת שֶׁל צַדִּיקִים לְמַעֲשִׂיּוֹת שֶׁל רְשָׁעִים וְשַׁקְרָנִים (עַיֵּן פְּנִים), וְלִזְכּוֹת לָזֶה הוּא עַל־יְדֵי אֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל:
To merit purity of thought — is through stories of the deeds of Tzadikim. That is — to tell what was done with them and all the great things they did. For this is a very great matter. For through this one's thought is purified. And through this the judgments are sweetened and one is saved from all troubles. But it is impossible to tell stories of the deeds of Tzadikim except for one who knows how to distinguish between light and darkness — between the stories of Tzadikim and the stories of wicked people and liars (see the main text). And to merit this — is through the Land of Israel.
ג. אֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל הוּא כְּלָלִיּוּת הַקְּדֻשָּׁה שֶׁבְּכָל הַקְּדֻשּׁוֹת, וְשָׁם זוֹכִין לָצֵאת מִטִּבְעִיּוּת וְלֵידַע וּלְהַאֲמִין שֶׁהַכֹּל בְּהַשְׁגָּחָה לְבַד שֶׁזֶּה הוּא כְּלָלִיּוּת הַקְּדֻשָּׁה, וְעַל־יְדֵי־זֶה יְכוֹלִין לְהִדָּמוֹת אֵלָיו יִתְבָּרַךְ וּלְהַבְדִּיל בֵּין הָאוֹר וְהַחֹשֶׁךְ, וְאָז יְכוֹלִין לְסַפֵּר סִפּוּרֵי מַעֲשִׂיּוֹת שֶׁל צַדִּיקֵי אֱמֶת, כִּי יוֹדְעִין לְהַבְחִין בֵּינֵיהֶם לְהַהִפּוּךְ, וְאָז זוֹכִין עַל־יְדֵי־זֶה לְטָהֳרַת הַמַּחֲשָׁבָה וּלְהַמְתִּיק הַדִּינִים וּלְהִנָּצֵל מִכָּל הַצָּרוֹת כַּנַּ"ל:
The Land of Israel is the totality of holiness in all the holinesses. And there one merits to go beyond nature — and to know and believe that everything is only through providence. Which is the totality of holiness. And through this one can liken oneself to Him, may He be blessed — and distinguish between light and darkness. And then one can tell stories of the true Tzadikim — for one knows how to distinguish between them and their opposite. And then through this one merits purity of thought — and the sweetening of judgments — and to be saved from all troubles as above.
ד. יֵשׁ שֵׁם שֶׁכְּשֶׁרוֹצִים לַעֲשׂוֹת מֶלֶךְ מִשְׁתַּמְּשִׁין בְּזֶה הַשֵּׁם וְהַשֵּׁם הוּא קמ"ה רָאשֵׁי־תֵּבוֹת "הַשְׁקִיפָה "מִמְּעוֹן "קָדְשְׁךָ (דְּבָרִים כו, טו) וְזֶה בְּחִינַת: "מְהַעְדֵּה מַלְכִין וּמְהָ'קֵ'ים' מַלְכִין" (דָּנִיֵּאל ב, כא). וְזֶה שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר בְּיוֹסֵף: "וְהִנֵּה קָמָ"ה אֲלֻמָּתִי" (בְּרֵאשִׁית לז, ז):
There is a Name that when they wish to make a king — they use this Name. And the Name is "Kuf-Mem-Hey" [ק"מה] — initial letters of: ""Look down from Your holy dwelling"" ["Hashkifah Mi-M'on Kadsh'cha", Deuteronomy 26:15]. And this is the aspect of: ""He removes kings and sets up kings"" [Daniel 2:21]. And this is what is said about Yosef: ""and behold my sheaf arose [kamah]"" [Genesis 37:7].
