Grant me through Your abundant mercies to receive Shabboses as is fitting — through great joy and through wealth and honor and through diminished iniquities. And may I merit to abound in the eating of Shabbos; and may I have no petty irritation whatsoever over the expenditures of Shabbos and Yom Tov. Rather may I strengthen and embolden myself with all might — to abound in all manner of delicacies and foods and good drinks in honor of the holy Shabbos; and to eat abundantly on the holy Shabbos; as You commanded us in Your holy Torah: Eat it today [ Exodus 16:25 ]. And as Your holy sages greatly warned us to delight in Shabbos with all might — for the eating of Shabbos is entirely G‑dliness; entirely holy; and rises to an entirely different place from the eating of the weekday. And may I merit through the eating of the holy Shabbos to repair the blemish of Shabbos desecration [ pegam chillul Shabbos ]; for You know how very difficult it is for flesh and blood to be guarded and protected in perfection from Shabbos desecration. Rather You alone shall guard me and save me from all manner of Shabbos desecration in the world; and grant me merit to abound in the eating of Shabbos — until I merit through this to repair every blemish of Shabbos desecration that I blemished from my very beginning. And have mercy upon us and guard us and all of Israel; and rescue us from the punishment of the widower [ onesh alman ], G‑d forbid. And may our first wives live and not die. Rather may we and all of Your people Israel merit to lengthen our days and years together with our first wives in holiness and purity in truth. For You know the bitterness of the trouble of one whose first wife has died, G‑d forbid — that his steps are shortened [cf. Sanhedrin 22a ]; and the world grows dark before him; and it is as though the Beis Ha'Mikdash was destroyed in his days — G‑d have mercy; G‑d save him. And grant us merit through the holiness of the eating of the holy Shabbos — and in particular through the eating of the Shabbos of the great true tzadikim : that we merit through this to broaden and to enlarge the holy paths that the true tzadikim have revealed in the world. Master of all worlds — G‑d of all the true tzadikim : You alone know all that the great tzadikim accomplished and did in the world; all the holy and awesome and wondrous paths that they dug and excavated and drew out in the world. And how many toils they toiled and labors they labored — beyond measure and value and number. And how many afflictions and sufferings they endured with self-sacrifice at every time; until they dug and found straight and wondrous paths in places of desolate wilderness in which there had never been a path; in places through which no man had passed. And they went with self-sacrifice and passed back and forth many times — in order to make in them a trodden path for the many. But through our many iniquities — because of the immense turbidity of the materiality of the world and its evil desires; and the multitude of disputes and scoffing and jealousy and lust and honor: through this the holy paths are still hidden from most of the world. And even the few who seek Hashem and His tzadikim and desire to walk in their awesome ways — their path has been hidden from them through many concealments. Yet You know — that they have already revealed many counsels and paths without measure; until any person — whoever he may be — can find a path and counsel in every place where he is. For there is no place and no person and no hour in which one cannot find a trodden path to draw close to You — according to the ways of their counsels and their conversations and their Torah teachings and their allusions; which they revealed to us in their holy and awesome books that have spread in these our generations. How great are Your works, Hashem — very deep are Your thoughts [ Psalms 92:6 ]: for You granted us merit in these generations to the light of these holy books that the tzadikim before us revealed to us. But You have already revealed to us through them that for one of free will it is very difficult to receive help — therefore all their ways and awesome counsels are still in concealment and hiddenness from us; and their broad and awesome and wondrous paths are still very narrow and thin relative to the materiality of our nature and the confusion of our mind — because of our evil deeds. Therefore I have come before You — Master of mercies; Who shows the way to the penitent: that You help me and grant me merit to receive Shabbos with great holiness and great and immense joy as is fitting; and to abound in the Shabbos feast; until I merit through the eating of the holy Shabbos to broaden and to enlarge all the holy and true paths that we need to walk in to draw close to You in truth. And may we merit through the holiness of Shabbos to raise the feet [ raglayim ] to holiness — as it is written: If you turn away your foot from Shabbos [ Isaiah 58:13 ]. And all the commandments that we perform during the six weekdays — may their feet rise from the husk [ klipah ] and the Other Side [ Sitra Achra ] that drew sustenance from them on the weekdays; in such a manner that every single commandment shall be able to go and to ascend before You. And You through Your abundant mercies and Your great love for Your people Israel — may You receive all our commandments and good deeds; even the commandments of those of lesser value such as I today — performed in complete smallness and without any wholeness at all. You through Your mercies and Your love — receive them all with love and with great compassion; and make them beloved; and take pride and delight in them with very great delight; and as a father with a son — may You be favorable toward us; and magnify and broaden our few good deeds that are small in substance and in quality and quantity; until through the great love and the delight — You broaden and enlarge the holy path that is made through our commandments. And may the verse be fulfilled: Righteousness shall walk before him — and may he set his steps on the path [ Psalms 85:14 ]: that You shall broaden and set a wide and trodden path from the steps of the feet of the commandments and good deeds of ours. And in particular the holy and awesome and wondrous paths that the great true tzadikim made in the world — have mercy upon them through the merit of the holiness of Shabbos eating; and broaden and magnify and reveal them to us and to all of Your people the House of Israel; in such a manner that we merit to walk in their holy paths in truth; and to return to You in complete repentance from all the evil places and paths in which we have wandered. Have mercy upon us and do not destroy us; have pity and compassion upon us; and lead us and guide us at every time in Your holy paths that You revealed through Your awesome tzadikim — whose wondrous true paths You alone know. Guide me in the path of Your commandments — for in it do I delight [ Psalms 119:35 ]. Lead me in Your truth and teach me — for You are the G‑d of my salvation; in You do I hope all day long [ Psalms 25:5 ]. Teach me, Hashem , the way of Your statutes — and I shall observe it to the end [ Psalms 119:33 ]. Teach me, Hashem , Your way; that I may walk in Your truth — unify my heart to fear Your Name [ Psalms 86:11 ]. Help me — Master of salvations; save me in all that I need to be saved; for my needs are very very many. Rescue me from quarrel and dispute; grant me merit to true peace in all aspects; grant me merit to the love of friends [ ahavas chaveirim ] in truth and to its very truth. Grant me merit to walk in the ways of the true tzadikim — until I merit to be as Your will and the will of Your truly G‑d-fearing ones desires in truth from now and forever. And may You set our portion with them; and may I never be put to shame — for in You have I trusted; and on Your great lovingkindness in truth have I leaned. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer [ Psalms 19:15 ]. He Who makes peace in His heights — through His mercies may He make peace upon us and upon all of Israel; and say: Amen. Master of the Universe — have mercy upon me for the sake of Your Name; and help me and save me that I merit to lengthen my days in great holiness and purity. That I merit to sanctify my thought with great holiness. And grant me merit to hold fast to the attribute of our father Avraham the man of lovingkindness — that I merit to be generous with my money [ vatran b'mamoni ]; and to do good and lovingkindness in truth with all those who need to be benefited and for whom lovingkindness needs to be done — according to Your good will in truth. And save me from petty irritations [ kpidos ] and stinginess which greatly confuse the mind and brain; and may I not be irritable or miserly at all; rather may I merit to be a good man — a man of lovingkindness; generous with my money as Your good will desires; until I merit to be included in the right side [ sitra di'ymina ] with great holiness — in the attribute of our father Avraham the man of lovingkindness. And through this may You grant me merit that my intellect and my brain shall be bright as silver [ chivvara k'kaspa ]; that my brain shall be clear and radiant and lucid. And may I merit to lengthen my days with great holiness — that I merit to meditate and to think in Your Torah at every time and every hour with great holiness; and not allow my thought to think any external or alien thought at all. And help me and save me through Your great salvation every single day — to banish and to remove and to nullify speedily from my thought all the serpents and scorpions: which are all manner of confusions and alien thoughts that encircle the brain every day. And may I merit to break all the fences and iron partitions and curtains of separation that come between the concealed good that is in every single day — and do not allow one who is not fitting and worthy of it to enter it. Full of mercy — have mercy upon me; and do not deal with me according to my sins; and do not repay me according to my iniquities — but rather deal with me according to Your lovingkindness and Your wonders with which You multiply doing good. And reward me with good lovingkindnesses; and magnify Your lovingkindness upon me at every time and every single day. And save me through Your mercies with new and wondrous lovingkindnesses; in such a manner that even I merit to the concealed good that is in every day; and let there be no power for my evil to interpose and to interrupt, G‑d forbid, before the concealed good of every day. Rather may You give me power and strengthening and emboldening in my heart and my thought — that I merit to strengthen myself every single day; to think thoughts and to meditate in Your holy Torah with a strong and correct thought; with great strengthening with all might and power; and with intense longing for the true good in truth. And may I not allow any alien or external thought or any confusion of mind to enter into my thought and confuse me, G‑d forbid — rather may I be strong in my mind and hold my thought to think every day and at every time in Your holy Torah; until Your true mercies are aroused upon me. And may You command that the gates of wisdom and intellect be opened for me — until true novellae in Your holy Torah [ chiddushin di'oraisa ] shall be revealed to me from You every single day; from the concealed good of that day. And through this may I merit to draw close to You in truth from now and forever. And may I merit through this that every single day of my life shall be long and great in truth — with great holiness and purity; through the true novellae of Torah that You graciously give me every single day from the concealed good of that day; until I merit to lengthening of days and years in truth — to live a long life; a good life; a true life; in great holiness and purity; in this world and in the World to Come — to eternal eternities and for endless eternity. And may the verse be fulfilled in me: With long life shall I satisfy him and show him My salvation [ Psalms 91:16 ]. And it is said: For through me shall your days multiply and years of life shall be added to you [ Proverbs 9:11 ]. And it is said: For length of days and years of life and peace shall they add to you [ Proverbs 3:2 ]. And it is said: Length of days is in her right hand; in her left — riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness and all her paths are peace. She is a Tree of Life to those who hold fast to her; and those who support her are fortunate [ Proverbs 3:16–18 ]. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer [ Psalms 19:15 ]. Amen. All Your commandments are faithfulness; falsehood has pursued me — help me [ Psalms 119:86 ]. G‑d of faith — have mercy upon me for the sake of Your Name; and grant me merit to complete faith in truth. Help me and save me to strengthen myself in complete faith in truth. Help me and save me to strengthen myself in complete faith at every time; and to enter myself within the holy faith — deeper and deeper each time; until I merit to ascend each time to higher and higher faith; until I merit to come to the intellect through the faith; that I merit through this to strengthening of the faith in truth — and to understand and to grasp with my mind things that I had not previously understood and in which I had to strengthen myself through faith alone. And now I shall merit to understand them and to grasp them with my knowledge and my intellect. Only in matters that are higher and more hidden — which I still do not understand — shall I strengthen myself in them with complete faith. And so shall I strengthen myself in great faith with additional holiness each time; until I merit each time to understand and to grasp with my mind and my knowledge even those things that are higher and more hidden. And so at every time shall I strengthen myself in greater and greater faith; until I merit to draw down the intellect and knowledge through the faith; to come to the intellect of a matter that was hidden from me at the beginning and in which I needed to believe through faith alone. Until I merit to come to the very top of faith and to complete knowledge in great holiness — to know and to recognize You in truth. And may I merit to know and to understand all that is possible for human intellect to understand in truth. And what it is impossible to understand with the knowledge — may I merit to complete faith in ultimate perfection; in ultimate degree of superiority; as Your will and the will of Your true tzadikim who merited to faith and to knowledge in the ultimate degree beyond which there is no further degree. And may I merit to complete and strong faith — to such a degree that the faith shall spread into all the limbs. Master of the Universe — Master of all worlds: Hashem — are Your eyes not directed toward faithfulness? [ Jeremiah 5:3 ]: give me complete faith in truth. Master of the Universe — You know all that befalls all the world concerning the holy faith — which is the foundation of everything; and in particular what befalls Israel the holy people — who are all believers children of believers. Yet even so there are thousands and tens of thousands of degrees in the matter of the holy faith. And all the troubles and all the exiles that befall Israel — all of them are through the blemish of faith; which is the foundation of all the entire Torah; as You have revealed to us through Your holy sages. (And in particular what befalls Israel now — from which the wrath has gone forth from You; and many evil decrees have been decreed upon Israel; [and the evil decree was decreed to conscript the sons of Israel as soldiers for war]: alas for us over our brokenness — our wounds are grievous; alas what has happened to us; alas what has happened to us; alas; who will stand in our defense in such a bitter time of distress; alas what shall be done to us; alas, alas — whither shall we flee; whither shall we run for help. And in particular since it is heard that they seek to issue yet more, G‑d forbid, harsh and very evil decrees — G‑d save us; and all of them are against the religion of Israel. Alas, alas and allay; alas and bitter; alas and bitter — and all these troubles come all through the blemish of faith.) And now — what shall we do to repair this; and in particular I — who have multiplied transgressions against You. And certainly all comes through the blemish of faith which is the foundation of all the entire Torah. And in truth each one depends upon his fellow — for because of the multitude of iniquities the faith is not complete; and because of the deficiency of the faith that is not complete — the iniquities came; G‑d forbid; from now. But how does one repair this and from where does one begin to repair it? Master of the Universe — full of mercy; Who chooses His people Israel with love: You have graciously given us the knowledge of Your Torah; and You gave us the Torah of truth in writing and by word of mouth through Moshe Your prophet — the faithful one of Your house [ ne'eman beitecha ]. And through Your mercies and Your compassion — You sent us in every generation true and righteous and pious and holy and awesome and wise and understanding tzadikim in truth; who merited to grasp the depths of the Torah's understanding; and revealed to us wondrous and awesome and very very sublime novellae — which no tongue in the world can describe the force of the loftiness of the sublimity of their degree and their height and their holiness and their power. And they all declare the praises of Hashem and His might and His wonders which He performed; and draw down and reveal the holy faith — eye to eye to all who come into the world. And after all these — we still have not returned from our errors; and in all the troubles that befall us — especially now through our many iniquities: not only have we not merited to be aroused to return to You in truth; for which reason alone You sent upon us all these troubles; but also through our many iniquities we have grown further and further distanced from You; until there are found among the people of Israel some whose minds and hearts have become crooked and who have fallen from their faith through the bitterness of these troubles. Alas — what shall we say and what shall we speak? But You alone know all that befalls us now in these generations in the footsteps of the Mashiach; and who knows what else may happen, G‑d forbid. Alas — who shall raise up Yaakov for he is small [ Amos 7:2 ]. Have mercy upon us — full of mercy; for we are in great distress both generally and in particular. Have mercy upon us — G‑d of faith; have mercy, have mercy; save, save. Hashem — hear my prayer; give ear to my supplications; in Your faithfulness answer me; in Your righteousness [ Psalms 143:1 ]. Hashem — in the heavens is Your lovingkindness; Your faithfulness reaches to the skies [ Psalms 36:6 ]. Help us for the sake of Your Name; and grant us merit to complete faith in truth at every time; until awe and dread and great fear shall come upon me from You — Hashem our G‑d; for the fullness of all the earth is His glory; and You stand over us at every time and see our deeds and know our thoughts and examine our hearts. Singular Master — full of mercy; Who has compassion on the poor: strengthen us and embolden us to know and to believe all this in truth at every time and moment; in such a manner that we merit to be saved through this from all manner of sins and iniquities and transgressions; and from all manner of evil thoughts and imaginings; and from all manner of confusions. And in particular from all manner of crookedness of the heart; from all manner of evil thoughts and imaginings that are against Your holy faith. Master of the Universe — Master of all: You alone know Yourself; and there is none who knows You at all. Rather we believe with complete faith that You exist — the Necessary Existent; singular; primordial; eternal; without beginning; without end. And You created the world — something from absolute nothing — this five thousand [years ago] and etc. And through Your great mercies You began to illuminate Your holy faith within us through our fathers: Avraham, Yitzhak and Yaakov — who began to reveal Your divinity in the world. And afterward You gave us Your holy Torah in writing and by word of mouth through Moshe Your prophet — the faithful one of Your house; who illuminated our eyes and opened for us the light of knowledge — to know and to make known and to be made known that You are Hashem our G‑d; none else besides You; through all the great and awesome deeds He performed with us to keep us alive as on this day. And through Your great compassion You added lovingkindness and goodness; and sent us in every generation true tzadikim — elders and prophets; the early and the later; Tannaim and Amoraim and Rabbanan Saboraei; and Geonim and Rabbis and pious ones; tzadikim and holy ones who were in every generation; until You granted us merit even in these generations — and sent us such awesome tzadikim as these. Therefore grant us merit through Your abundant mercies to walk in their ways; and to hearken to them in all that they have commanded us; and to be as their will desires in truth at every time. Teach us and guide us how to draw upon ourselves the holy faith — that our holy fathers and our tzadikim drew from the place they drew from through their immense holiness; until they merited to what they merited. Grant us merit to draw upon ourselves their faith and their lovingkindness and their goodness and their righteousness — which they toiled and exerted themselves with self-sacrifice in very great toils and labors to benefit all the children of Israel for eternal generations. And the main thing — to draw down and to reveal the holy faith to all who come into the world; and in particular to Israel the holy people; the people close to Him; the people of His treasure [ am segulah ]. Help us and save us in this time of distress — for the sake of their great and holy and awesome and very sublime power beyond searching. Save us O G‑d — for the waters have reached the soul [ Psalms 69:2 ]. Grant us merit to complete faith in truth; until we merit each time to come through the holy faith to the knowledge; and may the holy faith spread in each and every one through all the limbs. And may we merit always to speak the holy faith with a full mouth and a whole heart in truth; as it is said: The lovingkindnesses of Hashem — forever shall I sing; to generation and generation shall I make known Your faithfulness with my mouth [ Psalms 89:2 ]. And it is said: And the heavens shall praise Your wondrous deed, O Hashem — and Your faithfulness also — in the congregation of holy ones [ Psalms 89:6 ]. And it is said: To generation and generation Your faithfulness — You established the earth and it stands [ Psalms 119:90 ]. And it is said: The way of faithfulness I have chosen; I have set Your judgments before me [ Psalms 119:30 ]. And it is said: For the word of Hashem is upright — and all His works are in faithfulness [ Psalms 33:4 ]. And it is said: And the righteous person shall live by his faith [ Habakkuk 2:4 ]. And it is said: And My faithfulness and My lovingkindness shall be with him; and in My Name shall his horn be exalted [ Psalms 89:25 ]. And it is said: For good is Hashem — His lovingkindness is forever; and unto generation and generation is His faithfulness [ Psalms 100:5 ]. And it is said: And I shall betroth you to Me forever; and I shall betroth you to Me in righteousness and in justice and in lovingkindness and in mercy. And I shall betroth you to Me in faithfulness — and you shall know Hashem [ Hosea 2:21–22 ]. Blessed is Hashem forever — Amen and Amen [ Psalms 89:53 ]. Hashem is my light and my salvation — whom shall I fear? Hashem is the stronghold of my life — of whom shall I be afraid? When evildoers approach me to devour my flesh — my adversaries and my enemies: they stumbled and fell [ Psalms 27:1–2 ]. Master of the Universe — full of mercy; lover of His people Israel; Who chooses His people Israel with love. You know the multitude of bundled and frequent troubles that have passed over Israel since the day of exile — in particular what befalls us now in these days. And it is not enough for us — all the years that have passed over us from then until now; in which hundreds and hundreds of souls were captured into captivity and famine and sword and apostasy — which is the hardest of all; aside from the souls who were terrified with bitter and harsh frights beyond measure — of whom many died through this; and many became weakened with severe illnesses; and many inflicted upon themselves and endured hard and bitter and immense sufferings in order to remain within the religion of Israel. And in particular the compassion and the grief and the hard and heavy bitterness and sorrow of the souls of their fathers and mothers and relatives and friends — for whom the strength of the burden-bearer has given out. Alas for us over our brokenness; alas alas and allay; alas what has happened to us; alas what has happened to us; what shall we say and what shall we speak and how shall we justify ourselves — G‑d has found our iniquities [ Genesis 44:16 ]. How shall we cry out over our brokenness — our wounds are grievous [ Jeremiah 10:19 ]. And it is not enough for us with all this — that with all this His anger has not turned back from us; and He added to strike us blow upon blow; for before the first wound was bandaged — our eyes have already gazed upon the suffering of our souls: upon the souls of those struck and torn; the souls of those who groan and moan; who have already been captured from every city and every town; His hand is still stretched out from then until now. Alas, alas, alas, alas — who shall raise up Yaakov for he is small. Alas, alas — what shall we do; alas, alas — for our heart has been blocked and our spirit sealed — even from crying out to You: both from the multitude of troubles; and from the multitude of provocations of the adversary. For the battle is from every side — in material and spiritual matters; from within and from without. Outside the sword has wiped out through the bitterness of the decrees; and within the home and inside each and every individual — he overpowers through his schemes and his craftiness and his desires and his imaginings and his thoughts etc. And it is not enough that we do not merit to be aroused and to return to You in truth through the multitude of troubles — whose intent of Yours is only for this alone — he adds to mock us and seeks to corrupt the heart of many among the children of Israel with many manners of crookedness upon crookedness beyond measure; until many ponder against Your straight and correct and true ways. Master of the Universe — gracious One Who multiplies forgiveness: forgive please; pardon please; atone please. Forgive please the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of Your lovingkindness and as You bore with this people from Egypt until now [ Numbers 14:19 ]. For You alone know the situation and the state of Israel now; for we have remained like a mast atop a mountain and a flag upon a hill [ Isaiah 30:17 ]. We have become orphans without a father; our mothers are like widows [ Lamentations 5:3 ]. And there is none who stands in our defense — let Your great Name stand for us in a time of distress. Look at our affliction — for our pains have multiplied greatly and the troubles of our heart; and what can the multitude of the children of Israel do — for through the immensity of the darkness of the exile and the bitterness of the troubles the mind has become darkened and knowledge has become diminished; until they have grown weary of finding the opening of repentance to return to You through all that befalls them — which is Your intent for only this. Have pity and compassion upon us; and send us a savior and a great one to rescue us from all the troubles — in material and spiritual matters. And may he teach us the straight and true path; in such a manner that we merit to be aroused to return to You in truth through all that befalls us — both what befalls collectively all Your people the House of Israel; and what befalls in particular each and every individual every single day all the days of his life. Full of mercy — Knower of hidden things; Watcher of secrets: You alone know all that befalls Israel now in general and in particular; what shall we say and what shall we speak. Master of all worlds — singular Master; Giver of the Torah: You have revealed to us through Your mercies that all the power of the nations [ akum ] comes from the dim faces [ anpin chashukin ]; meaning: through our being lax in the engagement with Torah; and our not studying it as is fitting. And because of this the ways of the Torah have become hidden and darkened from our eyes; and through this, G‑d forbid, all the desires and evil traits gain strength — that come from the nations who draw sustenance from the dim faces; and through this itself, G‑d forbid, their dominion gains strength; and they decree upon us evil and bitter decrees — G‑d save us. But what shall we do to repair this? For because of the burden of livelihood and the overpowering of the evil inclination and the multitude of troubles it is very difficult to engage in Torah as is fitting. And even the little that we engage in it — our eyes have darkened and our intellect has become blocked from studying it as is fitting. And for the most part we do not understand even the plain meaning of things; all the more so we do not understand its depths and its pleasantnesses and its inner dimensions and its secrets; and we do not merit to see the light of the face of the holy Torah. And how very very far we are from the seventy faces of the Torah [ shiv'in panin la'Torah ] — from the luminous faces [ anpin nehirin ]; which subdue and nullify the dim faces; through which from itself the dominion of the dim nations who draw sustenance from them is broken and falls. But how does one merit to this? G‑d of the world — through Your abundant mercies have mercy upon us and give us our portion in Your Torah. Grant us merit through Your abundant mercies to be aroused from now to You in truth; and to begin from now to engage in Torah day and night. And let no distraction or business or commerce disturb or confuse us; rather may our work be done by others. And through Your abundant mercies — sustain us with great spaciousness; and provide for all our needs from You before we need them; in such a manner that we need not engage in any business for livelihood. Rather may our Torah be our craft in this world and may it be with us in the World to Come. And even for one who is compelled to engage in some work and commerce and trade for livelihood — help them and strengthen their hearts that they not forget, G‑d forbid, their eternal world; and may they take pity on their soul to fix times for Torah. And may their Torah study be permanent [ keva ] and their work be temporary [ ara'i ]; and may they not be prevented from the engagement with Torah except when compelled by necessity for trade and business alone. And in every time that they can snatch some hour or moment — and all the more so a day or two — to engage in Torah: may they merit to meditate in it with great perseverance. And have mercy upon us; and open for us the paths of true intellect — that we merit to understand all the words of the Torah thoroughly and in truth; and may we merit to bring all our mind and our thoughts and our intellect within the Torah; and to study it well in the place where we need to study. And may all our intent be for its own sake in truth — in order to understand the words of the Torah thoroughly and in truth; and not for boastfulness or to provoke, G‑d forbid; and not in order to be called rabbi; and not for money and honor; and may the words of Torah not become, G‑d forbid, a spade with which to dig; and not a crown with which to glorify oneself. Rather may we engage in the Torah in truth for its own sake with all our power and intellect and thoughts; in order that the study should bring us to practice — to turn from evil and to do good in Your eyes always. And You through Your abundant mercies and Your immense lovingkindnesses — may You illuminate our eyes in Your Torah and open our hearts; that we merit to understand well with great swiftness in every place where we study; and to grasp the words of the Torah in truth. And may we merit to study all the books of Your holy Torah every day: Tanach and Shas and Poskim and their commentators; and all the books of Midrash; and the books of the holy Zohar and Tikkunim; and all the writings of the Ari of blessed memory; and all the books of the true tzadikim of our days. And may we merit to complete them and to return and to begin them many times all the days of our lives. Have mercy upon us for the sake of Your Name; and grant us merit to persevere in Your holy Torah with great perseverance — for they are our life and the length of our days; and in them shall we meditate day and night [ Joshua 1:8 ]. And may we merit to give ourselves over entirely for the Torah until it is established in our hands. And may we merit to break and to nullify and to put to death all the evil desires and all the evil traits in our bodies through the true engagement with and study of the Torah. Our Father — compassionate Father: have compassion upon us and give in our hearts understanding to understand and to comprehend; to hear; to learn and to teach; to observe and to do and to fulfill all the words of the study of Your Torah for its own sake with love. Have mercy upon us for Your Name's sake; and help and save us with all manner of salvations; in such a manner that we merit to strengthen ourselves in the engagement with Your holy Torah for its own sake. And may we bring all our mind and thoughts and all our ideas within Your holy Torah always day and night; in such a manner that the holy Torah shall illuminate for us the pleasant and holy light of its faces. And may all the luminous faces of the Torah that the perfect tzadikim merited to attain illuminate us and protect us; and through this may we merit to break and to nullify all the desires and all the evil traits from us. And through Your abundant mercies and Your great compassion — with which You have compassion upon Your people Israel in every generation: have pity and mercy and compassion upon us now in this time of distress; and act for Your sake and for the sake of our fathers and for the sake of all the holy and awesome tzadikim who were in every generation until now. And break and nullify through Your abundant mercies and Your great lovingkindnesses speedily from us all the harsh decrees — both those that have already been decreed upon us; and those that they seek to decree, G‑d forbid. All of them may You uproot and break and nullify through Your abundant mercies and Your great lovingkindnesses; and let no remnant of them remain at all. Full of mercy — Guardian of Israel: guard the remnant of Israel; and let Israel not perish — those who say: Hear O Israel . For as we are and as we stand to pray now — in the miry clay and without footing — as we are; yet with all this: I awoke and I am still with You [ Psalms 139:18 ]. For we still recite the Shema — Hear O Israel — twice every single day always. And on this alone we have established our stakes to come before You — Master of all — now and in this very moment; to prostrate our supplication before You — Master of mercies; through the merit and power of the true tzadikim who served You in holiness with great holiness and purity and self-sacrifice and wondrous wisdom and great wholeness [ temimus ] all the days of their lives. And through the merit of all the holy ones who were killed for the sanctification of Your Name; and were slaughtered and hung and killed and died through many kinds of strange tortures; and their blood was spilled like water — thousands of thousands and tens of thousands upon tens of thousands of souls of Israel — great and small; youths and the aged; from the day of the destruction until now. For all these have we come before You — Who answers His people Israel in the time of distress: that You be filled with mercy upon us in this bitter time of distress; and hasten to save us with a complete salvation — quickly and swiftly. And may the verse speedily be fulfilled: And it is a time of trouble for Yaakov — but from it he shall be saved [ Jeremiah 30:7 ]. Have pity upon us according to the multitude of Your mercies — may Your innards move and Your mercies be aroused upon us; for our needs are very very great — in body and soul; in material and spiritual matters; and our knowledge is too short to explain and to specify even a fraction of a thousandth part of them. Have mercy upon us and save us speedily for the sake of Your Name — in all that we need to be saved. And protect us and remove from us enemy and pestilence and sword and famine and grief; and remove the adversary from before us and from behind us; and in the shadow of Your wings shelter us — for we have no one to lean upon except upon You — our Father in Heaven. And we — we know not what to do; but our eyes are upon You [ II Chronicles 20:12 ]. Behold — as the eyes of servants to the hand of their masters; as the eyes of a maidservant to the hand of her mistress — so are our eyes to Hashem our G‑d; until He shall be gracious to us. Be gracious to us Hashem , be gracious to us — for we are very full of contempt [ Psalms 123:2–3 ]. Have pity upon us in the land of our captivity and do not pour Your fury upon us — for we are Your people; children of Your covenant. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer [ Psalms 19:15 ]. Amen. My King and my G‑d — for to You I shall pray [ Psalms 5:3 ]. Please Hashem — save me through Your abundant mercies; that I merit to engage in the words of Your Torah for its own sake with great perseverance; and in Your Torah shall I meditate day and night [ Joshua 1:8 ]. And be with me always; and help me and save me that the words of the Torah not become coarse and darkened from my mouth, G‑d forbid. Rather may I merit to study Torah in great holiness and purity — nullifying my self and all my materiality at the time of my study; in such a manner that I merit to feel in my heart and my mind the pleasantness and the sweetness and the spirituality and the delicacy and the depth of Your holy Torah. For You alone knew the immensity of the sweetness of the pleasantness and the sweetness and the spirituality of the words of Your holy and pure and wholesome Torah; as it is said: More desirable than gold — and than much fine gold; and sweeter than honey and the honeycomb [ Psalms 19:11 ]. And it is said: A honeycomb — the sayings of pleasantness; sweet to the soul and healing to the bone [ Proverbs 16:24 ]. And it is said: Her ways are ways of pleasantness and all her paths are peace [ Proverbs 3:17 ]. And even from afar I see and believe in the immensity of the depth and the pleasantness and the sweetness of Your holy Torah. Yet through our many iniquities — through the multitude of our materiality and our coarseness in our evil deeds and our confused thoughts — even the Torah that comes into our mouths: not only does it not illuminate us as it should; but even the Torah itself has become coarsened and darkened from our mouths. And because of this we have still not merited to break the evil inclination and its desires through the engagement with the holy Torah. And I do not merit to feel the sweetness and the pleasantness and the greatness of the Creator Blessed be He; and the greatness of the true tzadikim ; and the greatness of the Torah and the manifestation of divinity through the manifestation of such Torah novellae — that we have merited to receive from the day of the giving of the Torah until now. And now what shall I do — our Father in Heaven? With what shall a youth so distant as I merit to observe Your words [ Psalms 119:9 ]? With what shall I be reconciled before my Master; with what shall I purify and sanctify myself; with what shall I merit to return from my evil ways and my shameful thoughts — after that even the words of the holy Torah which are our life and the length of our days; and all our hope is upon them: even they do not illuminate me; and even they have become darkened and coarsened from my mouth, G‑d forbid. And now what shall I do; what shall I effect; whither am I driven to seek help? Torah, Torah — Torah of Hashem ; Torah of Moshe; Torah of all the true tzadikim ; Torah of all Israel. The Torah of Hashem is perfect — restoring the soul [ Psalms 19:8 ]. Have pity for Your honor's sake — and illuminate for us with Your great light within the darkness of the gloom of this long and bitter exile: the exile of the nations; the exile of evil and bitter desires. Arise to our help in this great time of distress — both generally and in particular. And overpower through the light of Your great shining over all manner of darkness and gloom; and over all manner of materiality and darkness beyond measure — that I have drawn upon myself through my many iniquities; in such a manner that even I shall merit to see the great light of the Torah. And may the Torah shine and illuminate for me through all manner of darkness and materiality into which I have fallen; and may it take me out of them speedily; and may I merit to go out from gloom to light; from darkness to great light. And may there be fulfilled in me: A lamp for my feet is Your word — and a light for my path [ Psalms 119:105 ]. And it is said: The opening of Your words gives light — it gives understanding to the simple [ Psalms 119:130 ]. And it is said: For a commandment is a lamp and Torah is a light — and the way of life is the rebuke of instruction [ Proverbs 6:23 ]. Master of the Universe — Giver of the Torah: have mercy upon us and grant us merit to engage in Your holy Torah for its own sake with great perseverance; and may we merit to learn greatly every day and every day. And help us and save us in every place where we study — to explain the matter well in the language that we understand; in such a manner that we merit to arouse and to draw upon ourselves the spirit of Mashiach [ rucho shel Mashiach ] — which is the spirit of G‑d hovering over the face of the waters [ Genesis 1:2 ] — which is the Torah. For he is pained [ m'cholal ] because of our transgressions [ Isaiah 53:5 ]; and endures diseases and many illnesses and harsh sufferings because of our transgressions and iniquities — in order to atone for us; to save us from all the troubles; to give us sustenance in our servitude [ Ezra 9:8 ]; to set for us a remnant in the land and to revive us for a great escape [ Ezra 9:8 ]. Have mercy upon him and upon us; and grant us merit to engage in Torah greatly; and to explain each matter well in the language that is understood. And in particular when studying with friends and students — to explain and to clarify and to elucidate for them each matter well in the language that they understand; and may the matters enter into their ears and their hearts; in such a manner that through this the spirit of Mashiach shall be aroused upon us: for he endures diseases on our behalf; and brings himself down; and clothes himself in many many garments — weekday garments; in order to be with us to revive us and to sustain us in the strength of this long and bitter exile. Have mercy upon us — our Father; compassionate Father; and help us and save us through his merit and power; and rescue us speedily from all the troubles and from all the decrees — both those that have been decreed upon us; and those that they seek to decree, G‑d forbid; for the strength of the burden-bearer has given out. Rock of Israel — arise to the help of Israel ; and hasten to save us in such a time of distress — through the power and merit of our righteous Mashiach the Holy One of Israel. And may the verse be fulfilled in us: Now I know that Hashem saved His anointed; He answers him from His holy heavens — with the saving power of His right hand [ Psalms 20:7 ]. And it is said: He is a tower of salvations to His king; and does lovingkindness to His anointed — to David and to his seed forever [ II Samuel 22:51 ]. And it is said: Hashem is their strength; and the fortress of salvation of His anointed is He. Save Your people and bless Your inheritance — shepherd them and carry them forever [ Psalms 28:8–9 ]. Hashem — save! May the King answer us on the day we call [ Psalms 20:10 ]. And may the verse be fulfilled in us: And as for Me — this is My covenant with them, says Hashem : My spirit that is upon you; and My words that I have placed in your mouth — shall not depart from your mouth; nor from the mouth of your children; nor from the mouth of your children's children — says Hashem — from now and forever [ Isaiah 59:21 ]. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer [ Psalms 19:15 ]. Master of the Universe — Giver of the Torah: have mercy upon us and grant us merit to engage in Your holy Torah for its own sake [ lishmah ] with great diligence; and may we merit to study much every single day. And help and save us in every place that we are — that there be no interruptions and no obstacles and no hindrances [ bittulim ] from Torah study at all. And may we merit to engage in Your holy Torah both during the day and at night; in the season and out of season; whether at home or on the road; whether in the city or in the field. And may we merit to complete and to fulfill all that we learn. And may our Torah study be sincere and wholehearted — in awe and fear and love; in faith and truth; in holiness and purity; in wholesomeness and simplicity; with great self-sacrifice; with all our heart and all our soul and all our might — as the Torah commands us. And help and save us that we not study Torah and engage in it for any ulterior motive whatsoever — whether for wealth or honor or fear or any other purpose whatsoever; rather may all our Torah study be purely for the sake of the Name — for the sake of Your great and holy Name; for the sake of Heaven; as Your good will desires in truth. And may we merit to the Torah of truth: the Torah of lovingkindness [ Toras chesed ] — which shall truly lead us and all who hear it in the path of truth. And may we merit through study of Your holy Torah to draw many people closer to Your service — until they merit to serve You with a whole heart all the days of their lives. And may You guard and save us through the merit and power of the holy Torah — and in particular through the merit of all those who engaged in Your holy Torah for its own sake in truth in every generation; and in the merit of those who are engaged in it now; and through their merit help and support and strengthen all of those who seek to draw close to Your holy Torah. Hashem — save; O King — answer us on the day we call [ Psalms 20:10 ]. Amen and Amen. Fortunate are those of blameless way who walk in the Torah of Hashem [ Psalms 119:1 ]. I shall consider the way of wholesomeness — when will it come to me? I shall walk with a whole heart within my house [ Psalms 101:2 ]. Wholeness and uprightness shall guard me — for I have hoped in You [ Psalms 25:21 ]. And I in my wholeness shall walk — redeem me and be gracious to me [ Psalms 26:11 ]. Master of the Universe — full of mercy; Who is wholesome in His deeds; Who is whole and deals wholly with the wholehearted [ ha'tam umis'tamem im t'mimim ]: have mercy upon me and grant me merit to wholesomeness [ temimus ] in truth. And may I merit to bind myself in truth and with wholesomeness to true and wholesome righteous and upright ones of the generation — who merited to serve true tzadikim and to receive from them the way of truth and uprightness. And may I merit to remove and to uproot and to nullify all my wisdom and my intellect and my knowledge before them — as if I have no intellect at all; only to fulfill all that issues from their mouths; and in all that they say is so — to deviate neither right nor left. Have mercy upon me — Master of mercies; and rescue us from all manner of confusions and from all manner of worldly wisdoms that are not true. Have mercy upon us and rescue us from them; let my heart not incline to their ways; and may I not deviate from the words of the holy true tzadikim ; who guide us with mercy in truth and with wholesomeness according to the ways of the Torah that we received from the mouth of Moshe our master upon him be peace. Guard us and save us from all manner of heresies and confusions of faith that come from these wisdoms. Grant us merit and bring us within the ways of true wholesomeness; in such a manner that I merit to complete faith in truth; and to fulfill all Your Torah with love and in truth and in wholesomeness all the days of my life. May my heart be wholesome in Your statutes — so that I not be put to shame [ Psalms 119:80 ]. For You are Hashem the G‑d — Who chose Avram and took him out from Ur of the Chaldeans and set His name Avraham. And You found his heart faithful before You [ Nehemiah 9:7–8 ]. For he walked before You in wholesomeness; for he was the head of all the true faithful — the wholehearted and the upright; who serve You in wholesomeness and simplicity in truth and in complete faith. Through his merit and through the merit of all the true and wholesome tzadikim — have mercy upon me; and grant me merit to begin from now to walk in Your way with wholesomeness and simplicity; in truth and in complete faith. And remove from me the perverse heart — that my heart not stray to the ways of the vain wisdoms that are practiced in the world; which greatly confuse and prevent one from thinking of our ultimate purpose and our end; and from drawing close to You in truth. And may I uproot and remove from my heart all these wisdoms; and may I know the truth to its very truth — the immensity of my foolishness and my deficiency of knowledge; as it is written: For I am more boorish than any man and have no human understanding [ Proverbs 30:2 ]. And it is written: And I — brutish and unknowing; I was a beast with You [ Psalms 73:22 ]. And it is written: I said: I shall become wise — but it is far from me [ Ecclesiastes 7:23 ]. Have mercy upon me — that I not deceive myself with any of the world's wisdoms that greatly confuse. Rather may I merit to truly fulfill in truth and with wholesomeness all that issues from the mouths of our true masters; and to completely nullify my mind and my intellect before them — as if I have no intellect at all; as indeed is the truth. And may I merit to truly fulfill the verse: You shall be wholesome with Hashem your G‑d [ Deuteronomy 18:13 ]. And it is said: Hashem — who shall dwell in Your tent? Who shall abide upon Your holy mountain? He who walks wholesomely and does righteousness and speaks truth in his heart [ Psalms 15:1–2 ]. Have pity upon me and save me and grant me merit to all that I have entreated from before You. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer [ Psalms 19:15 ]. I spread out my hands to You; my soul like a thirsty land for You — Selah [ Psalms 143:6 ]. My eye wastes away because of affliction; I have called upon You, Hashem , every day — I have spread out my hands to You [ Psalms 88:10 ]. Full of mercy — have mercy upon me and receive my supplications; and guide me and teach me Your true ways and Your upright counsels at every time; in such a manner that I merit speedily to return from my evil deeds and my shameful thoughts; until I merit speedily to the repair of the Bris [covenant] in truth and in perfection as Your good will desires. And graciously give me from You true knowledge and intellect; in such a manner that I merit to know and to feel my lowliness in truth; and let there not arise upon my mind any side of arrogance and grandeur and haughtiness and loftiness of spirit — for in truth according to my smallness I should not even have needed to pray about this at all to be saved from arrogance; for who am I that any side of arrogance should arise upon my heart — after I am so very distant from You? You know how they lie in ambush against me from every side at every time; until they confuse my mind with ulterior motives and arrogance — especially at the time when we want to engage in some holy matter. Therefore I have come before You — Master of mercies; Knower of hidden things: in Whose place of greatness there we find Your humility; that You have pity and compassion upon me at every time; and be with me and guard me always — that no side of arrogance and haughtiness shall arise upon my heart at all; until I merit to true humility; in such a manner that I merit to the guarding of the Bris in truth; as You have made known to us through Your holy sages that through humility one merits to the guarding of the Bris . And save me from false humility [ anavah pesulah ] — but rather may I merit to true genuine humility as Your good will desires. Teach me, Hashem , Your way; that I may walk in Your truth — unify my heart to fear Your Name [ Psalms 86:11 ]. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer [ Psalms 19:15 ]. From the belly of the grave I cried out — and You heard my voice. My voice You heard — do not conceal Your ear from my relief; from my crying out. Waters have poured over my head; I said: I am cut off. I called Your Name, Hashem , from the lowest pit [ Lamentations 3:56–55 ]. Master of the Universe — full of mercy upon all created beings; and even upon me — despite what I have done and despite what I still am today — G‑d forbid let the Merciful One save me from now. Despite all this — I see and I believe that Your mercies are never exhausted from me forever. Only it is impossible to understand Your ways — how You conduct Yourself with all the world; in particular with those who have free will [ ba'alei bechirah ] — for whose sake everything was created from beginning to end; from the beginning of Atzilus [emanation] to the end of the point of the center of this material world of Asiyah. And all the worlds — thousands of thousands and tens of thousands upon tens of thousands contained within them; and all the angels and seraphim and ofanim and holy creatures; all the supernal Palaces and the levels of holiness; and corresponding to them all that is in the klippah and sitra achra : all of it absolutely — was created and formed and made for our sake; for human beings who have free will. And You placed the free will in the hand of human beings — as if it were not in Your hand; as our sages of blessed memory said: Everything is in the hands of Heaven except for the fear of Heaven [ Berachos 33b ]. Yet even so — in truth the free will is also in Your hand; for everything is from You; and You give life to all of them. And as our sages of blessed memory said: A person's inclination overpowers him every single day; and were it not that the Holy One Blessed be He helps him — he would fall into its hand [ Kiddushin 30b ]; as it is said: The wicked watches for the righteous and seeks to kill him; Hashem shall not abandon him into his hand and shall not condemn him when he is judged [ Psalms 37:32–33 ]. And they said: Were it not for three verses the feet of those who hate Israel [a euphemism for Israel itself] would have given way; one of them being: And that I have caused harm [ Genesis 6:7 ] etc. And who can understand Your wondrous and awesome and immense ways; and the immensity of Your open and hidden and concealed lovingkindnesses — with which You conduct Yourself in lovingkindness with every single person in particular in every generation. Therefore I have come before You — Hashem my G‑d and G‑d of my fathers; G‑d of the first and the last; G‑d of all flesh; Who has compassion on the poor; Who hears the prayer of every mouth: that You have compassion upon me with Your great compassion; and give me counsel and strength and strengthening — how to close and to pass my material eyes; and the eyes of my intellect and thought; that I not look anymore from now upon the vanities of this world at all. And in particular that I not begin to think with my thought any thought that touches upon evil imaginings, G‑d forbid. For in truth I believe — that I still certainly have free will; yet because of the immensity of the bitterness of habit — it is very difficult for me to hold my thought in holiness. But You can help me greatly for Your Name's sake; for the sake of Your honor; for the sake of Your lovingkindness; for the sake of Your abundant and great mercies; in such a manner that I be saved in any case from now from what I need to be saved; and may I not enter anymore into such a bitter Gehinnom; into such miry clay. And may I take pity on my soul from now to distance my thought in the ultimate distancing from all manner of evil imaginings and ideas of the world; and let them not be able to arise upon my thought at all — even through the sight of my material eyes. Guard my soul and save me — let me not be put to shame for I have taken refuge in You [ Psalms 25:20 ]. Guard me and save me from all manner of evil gazing and evil imaginings. Turn away my eyes from looking at vanity — through Your way give me life [ Psalms 119:37 ]. May Your immense mercies be aroused upon my very downtrodden soul today; may Your innards move and Your mercies be upon me; and be in my help and save me — that I merit to take out and to pass my eyes — in material and spiritual matters — from seeing this world; rather may I merit to incline my eyes and my heart and my mind always at every time to look upon the light of the Torah and the true tzadikim — who illuminate with great and awesome and very sublime light; until through this all the desires of this world shall be nullified from me. For You have already revealed to me — and I believe this in truth and complete faith — that all this world with all its desires and vanities does not come at all against a single point of the holy Torah and the tzadikim — who illuminate throughout all the worlds with great light. For this very small world in quantity and substance and quality — compared to a single point of the light of the Torah and the tzadikim — stands before the eyes of human beings and prevents and obstructs them from looking upon the great and precious light of the Torah and the tzadikim . Have mercy upon me for Your Name's sake — after You have had compassion upon me to know and to believe all this: that I not allow myself to err, G‑d forbid any further; and not walk anymore in darkness; and not go astray after my heart and after my eyes; and not raise or lift my eyes to look at all upon the matters of this world and its vanities and its evil and very bitter desires at their end. Rather may I shut my eyes from looking at all of this — but rather may my eyes look straight ahead [ Proverbs 4:25 ]; and my eyelids look directly in front of me; to direct my sight and my gaze at every time upon the light of the Torah and the true tzadikim . And You through Your mercies — may You illuminate upon me their great and sweet light; until through this all the desires of this world and its matters and its vanities shall be nullified from me; until I merit to know You in truth — to behold the pleasantness of Hashem and to visit in His Temple [ Psalms 27:4 ]. Full of mercy — have mercy upon me; and receive my supplications: have pity upon me and be in my help; that I not exchange, G‑d forbid any further, light for darkness. Take me out from gloom to light; from darkness to great light; from the darkness of the gloom of the desires of this world and its ideas — to the clear and radiant light of the Torah and the true tzadikim . Grant me merit to spend all my days in drawing truly close to true tzadikim and to the holy and awesome Torah that they draw down and reveal and illuminate in all the worlds at every time. Have mercy upon me for Your Name's sake; have pity upon me and upon my children and small ones — for the sake of Your great and true mercies; for Your mercies are never exhausted; as it is written: The lovingkindnesses of Hashem — for they are not exhausted; for His mercies have not ceased [ Lamentations 3:22 ]. Alas Hashem — I have spread out my hands to You; I have spread my hands to You; my soul like a thirsty land for You — Selah [ Psalms 143:6 ]. To You my eyes are raised and suspended. To You I raise my eyes — O You Who are enthroned in the heavens [ Psalms 123:1 ]. My eyes have pined to the heights: Hashem — I am oppressed; be my surety! My surety for good — let not the arrogant oppress me [ Isaiah 38:14 ]. Help us for Your Name's sake. Our Father our King — reveal the honor of Your kingship over us speedily; and appear and be exalted over us; and illuminate upon us through Your mercies — the light of the faces of the holy Torah and the true tzadikim . For You have already begun to illuminate upon us Your great light from the day of the giving of the Torah until now — through the true tzadikim from the days of Moshe our master upon him be peace until this very day. But because of the immensity of our materiality and the darkness of our many iniquities — we need You to have very great and immense compassion upon us; in such a manner that You illuminate even upon me — now in this very moment — the light of Your holy Torah and the light of the true tzadikim ; until all the desires of this world shall be entirely nullified from me; and I merit from now to return to You in truth and with wholesomeness as Your good will desires. Illuminate Your face upon Your servant — save me in Your lovingkindness [ Psalms 31:17 ]. Let Your face shine upon Your servant — and teach me Your statutes [ Psalms 119:135 ]. And may the verse speedily be fulfilled: And the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn — going and shining until the day is established [ Proverbs 4:18 ]. And it is said: The sun shall no longer be your light by day; nor for brightness shall the moon give light to you. But Hashem shall be to you an eternal light; and your G‑d shall be your glory. Your sun shall no more set; and your moon shall not withdraw; for Hashem shall be to you an eternal light — and the days of your mourning shall be ended. And your people shall all be righteous — forever they shall inherit the land; a branch of My planting; the work of My hands to be glorified [ Isaiah 60:19–21 ]. Speedily in our days — Amen Selah.

Our Father in Heaven — help me and save me that I merit to judge every person favorably; even those who dispute against me and against true tzadikim and who treat them with contempt — in all of them may I merit to find merit and good. And may I merit to truly fulfill what our sages of blessed memory said: Do not judge your fellow until you have reached his place [ Avos 2:4 ]. In such a manner that all dispute shall be nullified from the world; and great peace and unity shall be drawn among all of Israel in truth. Full of mercy — Master of truth and peace: You know from where all the dispute of the world is drawn; in particular the dispute that has arisen in our generations among scholars and their people — through which many souls have sunk. Have mercy upon us and upon them; and reveal the truth to its very truth in the world; and do what You shall do through Your mercies; in such a manner that there shall be unity and great peace among us — Israel Your holy people — whom You have chosen. And if the dispute is, G‑d forbid, on my side — because I am distant from the holiness of those who dispute against me; and because of this their heart separated from me: have mercy upon me for Your Name's sake; and grant us merit through Your abundant mercies to speedily return in complete repentance before You in truth; until I reach their holiness and their degree — all the children of Israel who are above me in the degree of their holiness and their purity; that I may reach their place in truth and unite with them in truth and in great peace. And if the matter is the reverse — that their disputes against us are because they are distant and lowly from us; and therefore they are jealous and provocative toward us and dispute against us: have mercy upon us for Your Name's sake; and grant us merit always to judge all who dispute in our favor. And teach us through Your abundant mercies how to find merit and good in them — even in what they dispute against us; in such a manner that we merit to raise them up and to bring them into the scale of merit in truth; until they are united in truth in ultimate unity and perfection; in such a manner that the dispute shall be nullified from us and from all of Israel — for within one there is no possible dispute. And may You place in the hearts of those who dispute and oppose the truth — that they all return from their hatred and their quarrelsomeness; and constantly draw themselves toward truth and peace; as it is said: Love truth and peace [ Zechariah 8:19 ]. And all the enemies and disputants who do not desire peace — and who strengthen themselves to hold on to dispute; and who do not desire to return to the truth: may You subdue them and humble them to the very dust; may they all fall and not rise; May the lying lips be silenced — that speak arrogant things against the righteous, with pride and contempt [ Psalms 31:19 ]. May Hashem cut off all flattering lips — the tongue that speaks great things [ Psalms 12:4 ]. Let them be put to shame and consumed — those who are adversaries of my soul; let them be clothed in disgrace and humiliation — those who seek my harm [ Psalms 71:13 ]. Let them be put to shame and very dismayed — all my enemies; let them return and be put to shame in an instant [ Psalms 6:11 ]. Have mercy upon us for Your Name's sake; and bestow peace in the world — for You know how very much dispute harms Israel. Have mercy, have mercy — full of mercy; and do through Your wonders and Your awesome deeds; in such a manner that You draw great peace in the world in truth. And may the verse speedily be fulfilled: And all your children shall be disciples of Hashem — and great shall be the peace of your children. Great peace to the lovers of Your Torah — and there is no stumbling for them. May they see children's children — peace upon Israel [ Isaiah 54:13; Psalms 119:165; Psalms 128:6 ]. May there be peace within your ramparts; tranquility within your palaces. For the sake of my brothers and my friends I shall speak peace within you. For the sake of the House of Hashem our G‑d I shall seek good for you [ Psalms 122:7–9 ]. Hashem will give strength to His people; Hashem will bless His people with peace [ Psalms 29:11 ]. He Who makes peace in His heights — may He make peace upon us and upon all of Israel; and say: Amen. By Your counsel You shall guide me; and afterward You shall take me with honor [ Psalms 73:24 ]. Master of the Universe — my King and my G‑d; to You I shall pray. To You, Hashem , I shall call; and to Hashem I shall supplicate [ Psalms 28:1 ]. How long shall I take counsel in my soul — sorrow in my heart by day? How long shall my enemy be exalted over me? [ Psalms 13:3 ]. Have mercy upon me for the sake of Your Name; and set us right through good counsel from before You; and save us speedily for Your Name's sake. For You know the immensity of the lack of counsel and the force of the multitude of doubts that are in my heart in all matters — for most of the time all my counsel is divided in two; and I am unable to give counsel to myself in any matter from great to small. This matter has been my downfall; and greatly prevents me from the service of Hashem and from true repentance. Have mercy upon me — Master of mercies. Great in counsel and mighty in deed [ Jeremiah 32:19 ]: and grant me merit to always receive all counsels from the true righteous and upright ones of the generation — whose every counsel is drawn from the holy Torah; that they received from their masters the holy true tzadikim . Grant us merit to draw close to them in truth and to receive from them all the counsels in all matters of the world — whether in matters of service of Hashem ; or in matters of commerce and livelihood; or in other matters. In all of them shall I seek their mouths; and may I merit to benefit from them through counsel and wisdom [ Proverbs 8:14 ]. And may their holy wisdom illuminate within me. And through this may great lovingkindness be drawn upon me. And may they sweeten and nullify from me all the judgments of the world. And may I merit to complete salvation at every time; as it is written: And salvation is in an abundance of counsel [ Proverbs 11:14 ]. And may You guard me and save me always that I not stumble forever in counsel that is not good, G‑d forbid; and not draw upon myself any grief or suffering or harm, G‑d forbid, through foolish counsels, G‑d forbid. Rather may I always strive to receive all the counsels from the true righteous and upright ones of the generation; in such a manner that their holy wisdom shall illuminate within me. And may You arouse Your mercies and Your great lovingkindnesses upon me at every time; and save me always in all that I need to be saved — in material and spiritual matters. And may there be drawn upon me the lovingkindness of G‑d all the day [ Psalms 52:3 ]. And may the verse be fulfilled in me: Hashem has foiled the counsel of nations; He has frustrated the devices of peoples. The counsel of Hashem shall stand forever; the thoughts of His heart to all generations [ Psalms 33:10–11 ]. Many are the thoughts in a man's heart — but the counsel of Hashem shall stand [ Proverbs 19:21 ]. The counsel of Hashem shall stand forever; the thoughts of His heart to generation and generation [ Psalms 33:11 ]. And it is said: Hashem of hosts has counseled — and who can annul it? [ Isaiah 14:27 ]. And it is said: May He give you according to your heart — and may He fulfill all your counsel. We shall ring out in your salvation; and in the Name of our G‑d we shall raise banners; may Hashem fulfill all your entreaties [ Psalms 20:5–6 ]. Hashem — save! May the King answer us on the day we call [ Psalms 20:10 ]. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer [ Psalms 19:15 ]. Blessed is Hashem forever — Amen and Amen [ Psalms 89:53 ]. Create for me a pure heart O G‑d — and renew a correct spirit within me [ Psalms 51:12 ]. Master of the Universe — Who hears and hearkens and listens to the voice of our prayers and our conversations and our supplications: teach me how I should now take new and beautiful words to appease You and to conciliate You; that You do through Your mercies — that I walk in Your statutes and observe Your commandments [ Ezekiel 36:27 ]. For this how long I have been crying out and supplicating and multiplying prayers and conversations — and all my intent in all of them was that I merit to return to You in truth speedily. And still I have not been saved. And I know that the obstacle is from me — through my stubbornness and my evil desires and the great foolishness of my mind. But I know no way at all how to go out from all this; and new words have been exhausted from me — for there is no word on my tongue: Behold Hashem — You know all of it entirely [ Psalms 139:4 ]. I was dumb with silence; I held my peace from good — and my pain was stirred [ Psalms 39:3 ]. I was struck dumb — I would not open my mouth; for You have done this [ Psalms 39:10 ]. And You know — our Father in Heaven — that all my hope and all my trust is upon prayer and supplication and crying out and beseeching to You. But how does one take new words as I need every single day; in such a manner that I merit to appease You in truth — that You return me to You speedily. Full of mercy — Who has compassion on the poor; Who devises my repair even now: open Your mouth for the mute as I am; teach me what I shall speak; make me understand what I shall ask. O Lord — open my lips; and my mouth shall declare Your praise [ Psalms 51:17 ]. Have mercy upon me and be in my help — that I merit to multiply in conversation [ sicha ] — which is prayer [ zo tefillah ] — between me and my Maker every single day all the days of my life. And may You cause to flow upon me new and holy and beautiful words at every time; give me new words — full of mercy; in such a manner that I merit to save my soul [ l'hatzil nafshi ] through them from what I need to be saved in this world and in the World to Come; and to return to You in truth and with a whole heart as Your good will desires; and not return again to my folly; If I have acted wickedly — I shall not continue [ Job 34:32 ]. Have mercy upon me with new mercies — through the merit of the great and perfect tzadikim upon whom we lean always; who merited to be renewed at every time — every day and at every time and at every hour. For You know that all our reliance is upon them; and through the greatness of their power we have something to lean upon even now — even in the immensity of our smallness and our lowliness, G‑d forbid. Save us through their merit and purify our hearts for Your service in truth. Restore me and I shall return — for You are Hashem my G‑d [ Jeremiah 31:18 ]. For it is revealed and known before You that I am filled with words [ malasi millim ] — but am unable to bring them out through the mouth [ Job 32:18 ]. Give me speech of repentance [ dibbur shel teshuvah ]; for I shall not hold back my mouth from speaking before You all that enters into my mouth [ Job 33:32 ]. But may Your mercies precede me and help me — that I not say anything that is not as Your will desires, G‑d forbid; for You desire lovingkindness and multiply doing good; and You desire my repair and my good even now. Help me and save me for the sake of Your Name — for because of the great turbidity of my mind — therefore my words even now have stumbled [ cf. Psalms 38:15 ]. But I am compelled and obligated to speak and to converse and to supplicate before You as long as my soul is within me; as long as the soul is within me — and do what is good in Your eyes with me. Our Father in Heaven — however it may be and however it shall be — I shall stand on my watch [ Habakkuk 2:1 ] with Your great help; to cry out to You always. Only I have come to entreat Your face — Hashem my G‑d and G‑d of my fathers; that You have pity and mercy and compassion upon me — upon one so pursued as I; upon one so despised and rejected as I. And may You cause to flow upon me Your holy spirit from Yourself; and may You send into my mouth at every time new and beautiful and goodly words — that I can appease You with them; that You return me in complete repentance before You in truth speedily. And have mercy upon me and save me and help me and strengthen me — that I merit to attach my thought always to Your holy Torah; and may You remind me and embolden me through Your mercies always — to hold my thought so it not go outside at all; only to always think holy thoughts in Your Torah and Your service; until I merit to renew true novellae of Torah [ chiddushin di'oraisa ] at every time. And may my intellect be stirred at every time in Your holy Torah; until I merit through the movements of the intellect to give birth to warmth in the heart [ cholem ba'lev ] — that my heart warm with warmth and holy burning [ hislahavus dikdushah ]; to cleave to You and to be as Your good will desires in truth. And in particular at the time of my engaging in Torah and commandments and prayer and hitbodedus : may I merit to be inflamed toward You with great holy burning — in progression and in measure as Your good will desires; until I merit through the warmth and the holy burning to repair all the blemishes I have blemished against You through the burning of the heart and the warmth and the burning of the sitra achra . And may I merit through Your mercies and Your salvation — to banish all the spirit of folly from me; and may You burn away from me and from within me the spirit of impurity. And may You subdue my inclination to be subservient to You; until I merit to true purity of heart; and through this may I merit to speak and to converse before You new words at every time. Have mercy upon me and help me and save me that my heart be purified speedily — for You know how very far I am from true purity of heart. For I have multiplied transgressions against You and walked after the stubbornness of my evil heart; and I have sinned and blemished against You greatly through the burning and inflaming of the heart of the sitra achra ; and I did not overpower the inclination of my evil heart-thoughts to drive them away and to remove them from me; until through my many iniquities my heart has become filled with a spirit of folly and evil thoughts and alien ideas and many confusions — because of which I do not merit to draw close to You. Merciful One — full of mercy; holy and awesome; Who purifies the impure: purify my heart speedily; pardon me for the past; and help me and save me for the future — that I merit to banish and to remove from my heart all the evil imaginings and all the confused ideas; and all manner of blemished thoughts in the heart. All of it may I merit to uproot and to banish and to remove from my heart; and may I strengthen and embolden and brace myself at every time to incline my heart toward You in truth. Merciful One — full of mercy: grant me merit to warmth and holy burning of the heart [ chamimus v'hislahavus ha'lev dikdushah ]; and act for the sake of our fathers and our masters — Your true tzadikim ; those who justify the many like the stars forever and ever [ Daniel 12:3 ]: that I merit through their power to also be included in the category of those who justify the many. And may I merit to judge every person favorably; and to draw many people close to Your service and to Your awe and to Your Torah; to explain and to illuminate and to make known Your truth to all the children of Israel Your people. And may my true words enter into their hearts [ v'yikkansu divarai ha'amitiyim b'levavam ]; until their hearts warm with great warmth and holy burning to return to You in truth. And through this may there be drawn upon me at every time warmth and holy burning more and more; and may I merit to receive and to draw into my heart at every time warmth and holy burning from our masters the tzadikim — who are cleaved to You Hashem our G‑d like a consuming fire [ Deuteronomy 4:24 ]; great and awesome G‑d. And they receive fire from above — sparks of fire — a flame of Hashem [ Song of Songs 8:6 ] — to inflame and to warm the heart of Israel with warmth and holy burning; and all their words are like coals of fire. Have pity upon Your people Israel — that the sacred fire of holiness of theirs shall never be quenched forever and ever. And may the verse speedily be fulfilled: A continual fire shall burn upon the altar — it shall not be quenched [ Leviticus 6:6 ]. And may we all merit to receive from their holy fire at every time — to warm and to inflame the heart of the children of Israel Your people with holy burning toward You and Your service in truth; in progression and in measure as Your good will desires. And all that You grant me merit to bring warmth and holy burning into the hearts of others — may I merit that there be added upon me and drawn upon me doubly and redoubled from above: warmth of the heart and holy burning through our fathers and our masters — Your tzadikim who do Your will; Your ministers — a blazing fire [ Psalms 104:4 ]. And through this may I merit to uproot and to banish and to remove from my heart all the spirit of folly and all the evil thoughts and ideas; until I speedily merit to true purity of heart. And through this may I merit to speak new holy and pure words before You at every time in truth — to appease You that You draw me close to You speedily; and I shall always be cleaved to You in truth; as it is written: And you who cleave to Hashem your G‑d — you are all alive today [ Deuteronomy 4:4 ]. And may the verse speedily be fulfilled in me and in all of Israel: Set me as a seal upon Your heart; as a seal upon Your arm; for love is as strong as death; jealousy as fierce as the grave; its flashes are flashes of fire — a flame of Hashem . Many waters cannot quench the love; nor can rivers flood it. If a man were to give all the wealth of his house for love — it would be utterly scorned [ Song of Songs 8:6–7 ]. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer [ Psalms 19:15 ]. The free offerings of my mouth accept please, Hashem — and teach me Your judgments. The way of Your precepts make me understand — and I shall speak of Your wonders. Remove from me the way of falsehood — and graciously give me Your Torah [ Psalms 119:108–29 ]. Master of the Universe — full of mercy; Giver of the Torah: help us and save us and grant us merit to engage in Your holy Torah day and night. Sanctify us through Your commandments and give us our portion in Your Torah; and purify my ideas and my heart for Your service; until I merit to study Torah for its own sake in truth — that all my intent in my study be truly for Your Name alone; without any ulterior motives or alien thoughts at all; solely for Hashem alone. And You through Your mercies shall help me at every time to sanctify and to purify myself as is fitting; until I merit that all my study be for the sake of the glory of Your presence [ bishvil Shechinat uzzecha ] — to raise up the Shechinah from the dust [ l'akama Shechintah mei'afra ]; until all my study ascends to the Shechinah — who is the intermediary between Him Blessed be He and the world. And may the holy Shechinah receive all my Torah study with great love; and through this may You draw down upon us all the divine influxes. And from the study of our Torah there shall be made a spiritual abundance [ shefa ruchniyus ] and a material abundance [ shefa gashmiyus ] — that the abundance from the engagement with our holy Torah shall ascend to give life to all the supernal worlds; and to all the angels and seraphim and ofanim and holy creatures; and all those who dwell on high. And the material abundance shall also descend through the study of our Torah to all the children of Israel Your people; and may You cause to flow upon us through this: sons, life and sustenance [ banei chayyei umzonei ] with a great holy abundance — wealth and honor and life; and righteousness and blessing and mercy and life and peace and all good in this world and in the World to Come. And so may You have mercy upon us and help us and save us — that all the vapors and airs that we draw from the Torah teachings of the children of Israel Your people who are of lower degree; who do not merit that their study ascend to the Shechinah ; whose study is scattered in the air at night through the cold wind of all the gardinei nimmusin [officers of the laws of nature] who go out at night and strike against them; and all the inhabitants of the world draw from these vapors. Please Hashem — Who alone does great wonders: have mercy upon us for Your sake; and grant us merit to draw and to receive from those vapors of those Torah teachings for good; that we merit to have made from them: dew of Torah; dew of lights [ tal Torah; tal oros ] — an elixir of life. And through this may we merit to be aroused every day with a new awakening — with intense desire and great longing to engage in Your Torah and Your holy service in truth. And may Your holy Torah be entirely new in our eyes every single day. And may we merit to ascend higher and higher in Your supernal holiness; until we merit through this to renew true Torah novellae. Through our receiving and drawing from those vapors drawn from many many Torah teachings of many people; and new holy combinations [ tzeirufim ] shall be formed for us in Your holy Torah; until we merit through this to renew true novellae in Your holy Torah every single day as Your good will desires. And may You guard us and save us through Your abundant mercies and Your great lovingkindnesses — that this dew not harm us, G‑d forbid; from those Torah teachings scattered in the air: that there not come upon us, G‑d forbid, through this — arousal to the pursuit of commerce and the thirty-nine labors [ sheloshim v'tesha melachos ]. And save us from the desire for money and from the pursuit and burdens of this world and its vanities. Rather may we merit to cast our burden upon Hashem [ Psalms 55:23 ]; and to trust in You alone — that You shall sustain and provide for us through Your abundant mercies in its time and its season. And may we not toil in vain and not produce for fright [ Isaiah 65:23 ]. Rather may all our longing be for Your Torah and Your service in truth — always day and night. And may we be aroused every day and at every time and at every hour with an entirely new awakening and desire and will toward You and Your Torah and Your service — in truth and with a whole heart as Your good will desires; until we merit to engage in Your Torah for its own sake all the days of our lives; and to return to You in truth; and to fulfill Your commandments; and to cleave to You always from now and forever. Amen Selah. May it be Your will, Hashem our G‑d and G‑d of our fathers — that I merit always to receive through my breath holy and pure airs that come from holy words; and through this may I merit to the pulse [ dofek ] of holiness. And may You arrange through Your mercies and help me and save me — that my pulse shall beat and knock within me for good; and may it remind me through its beating to the service of the Blessed Name; as it is written: The voice of my Beloved knocks — open to me my sister my friend my dove my perfect one; for my head is filled with dew; my locks with the drops of the night [ Song of Songs 5:2 ]. And may You guard me and save me from the spirit of folly; from an evil spirit; and may I not draw in or receive through my breath any evil air or evil spirit — drawn from the sitra achra ; that comes from blemished words. And may You protect me and guard me and save me from the pulse of the sitra achra ; and let there be no power for the pulse to beat within me — to remind me of the desires of this world and its vanities, G‑d forbid. And may You guard me and save me always from every sin and iniquity from now and forever. Please — merciful One; through Your abundant mercies — do what You shall do; through Your abundant mercies and Your immense lovingkindnesses; in such a manner that I merit to return to You speedily. Master of wonders — Life of all life; Who recalls those who are forgotten [ mazkir nishkachos ]: beat within me for good; and remind me at every time to return to You; in such a manner that I merit to complete repentance before You in truth — quickly and swiftly; and not return to my folly. Rather may I merit to serve You always in truth and with a whole heart; and to cleave to You in truth — I and my seed and the seed of my seed; and all who issue from my loins; and all the seed of Your people the House of Israel — from now and forever. Amen Selah. Fortunate is the man whom You chastise, O G‑d — and whom You teach from Your Torah; to give him rest from days of evil; until a pit is dug for the wicked. For Hashem shall not abandon His people; and His inheritance He shall not forsake [ Psalms 94:12–14 ]. Master of the Universe — full of mercy; good and beneficent to all: help me and save me that I merit to receive everything with love. And even when You send upon me through Your mercies at times some sufferings that seem like evil, G‑d forbid — may I merit to receive everything with great love in truth. And may You open my heart with great holiness — that I merit to know and to truly understand: that for one such as me; as I am; as what I have done against You — all that You do with me is very great and immense mercy and lovingkindness beyond measure and value unto infinite and limitless extent; for it is impossible to explain and to describe forever the immensity of the multitude of the compassion and the lovingkindnesses and the goodnesses that You have done with me; and that You are doing with me; and that You are destined to do with me at every time and moment. What shall I say; what shall I speak — What shall I return to Hashem for all His bounties upon me? [ Psalms 116:12 ]. Yet what shall I do — for my iniquities have stopped up my heart and made my mind and my heart crooked; until I do not merit to feel Your love in my heart. And they even seek to incline my heart at every time to ponder against Your good and straight and true ways, G‑d forbid. Therefore I have come to prostrate my supplication before You — that You be filled with mercy upon me. And may You guard me and save me from all manner of crookedness of heart; and strengthen my heart and my mind in Your holy faith — to know and to believe always: that You are righteous, Hashem [ Psalms 119:137 ]; and Your judgments are upright [ ibid. ]. And according to my evil and blemished deeds — You conduct Yourself with me in great lovingkindness and abundant mercies without measure. And You through Your mercies and Your great lovingkindnesses — may You have pity and compassion upon me and guard me and save me from all manner of evil and troubles; and from all the sufferings of the world. For You are the gracious One Who multiplies forgiveness. And according to the immensity and multitude of my transgressions — for which all the sufferings of the world would not suffice, G‑d forbid, to repair even one light sin in proportion to my iniquities — yet even so may Your mercies precede me; for You can forgive and pardon me without any sufferings at all; as it is written: For with You is forgiveness — in order that You be feared [ Psalms 130:4 ]. And it is written: For with Hashem there is lovingkindness; and abundant with Him is redemption — and He shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities [ Psalms 130:7–8 ]. Therefore I have spread out my hands to You — Master of mercies; have mercy upon me; guard my soul and save me from all manner of evil and troubles and from all the sufferings of the world. Deal not with us according to our sins; and repay us not according to our iniquities. And what we are compelled to receive according to the ways of Your true mercies and lovingkindnesses — please Hashem ; good and beneficent: do with us a wonder for life; and help us and save us that we merit to receive them with complete love in truth; and may You not send upon me any sufferings except at a time when You help me through Your supernal holiness — that I merit to receive them with complete love in truth; and may I not begin to ponder against You at all. And may I merit to take upon myself the guilt of my own soul [ Isaiah 53:10 ]; and I shall say to G‑d: I have borne it and not suffered [ Job 34:31 ]. Have mercy upon me for Your sake; and may I not kick against sufferings [ m'va'et b'yissurin ]. Rather may You give me strength and knowledge to receive them with love in truth — at the time when You desire through Your true mercies to chastise me with love; as a man chastises his son [ Deuteronomy 8:5 ]. And through Your abundant mercies — may You lighten from upon me the sufferings with all possible alleviations [ kal hakulos ] of the world; for my strength is weak and thin and my mind is blemished; and I have no strength or knowledge at all to receive sufferings. Deal with me according to Your lovingkindness: Be gracious to me O G‑d — according to Your lovingkindness; according to the multitude of Your mercies — blot out my transgressions [ Psalms 51:3 ]. In Your lovingkindness sustain me — and I shall keep the testimony of Your mouth [ Psalms 119:88 ]. Hashem — do not rebuke me in Your anger; and do not chastise me in Your wrath [ Psalms 6:2 ]. Full of mercy — do my will as Your will; that I merit to entirely nullify my will before Your will; and let me have no will of my own at all. Rather all my will shall be that everything be as Your will in truth — from now and forever. Amen Selah. The troubles of my heart have expanded — take me out of my distresses. Distress and anguish have found me — Your commandments are my delight [ Psalms 25:17; 119:143 ]. It is very distressing for me — our Father in Heaven; it is very distressing for me — our Father; compassionate Father; it is very distressing for me — our Father, my Father; my Redeemer and Ransomer; distressing and bitter; alas and allay; alas and I lament greatly; distress and anguish from every side. Answer me, Hashem — answer me; answer me — O Answerer in the time of distress: answer me; for You Hashem are the Answerer in the time of distress. Answer me Hashem for I have called upon You; help me and save me for Your Name's sake. Teach me and guide me how I merit to judge and to try myself — now at this time; in this time of distress; in which I am placed as in a press literally; and I know not how to give counsel to my own soul to save myself in any case from now. And my soul is very very terrified; and You Hashem — until when; until when; until when: until when shall I cry in captivity — I (so-and-so son of so-and-so) Your servant son of Your handmaid. Alas for me — for my life is consumed in sorrow and my years in sighing; my strength has given out through my iniquity and my bones are wasted away [ Psalms 31:11 ]. And now — how does one take counsel; how shall I merit to examine my deeds and to try myself concerning all my deeds and my conduct; after that I know of myself that most of my deeds are corrupt and very blemished; and in particular my evil thoughts and my confused and scattered and troubled ideas — troubled by what they are troubled by; G‑d save us from now. And it seems in my mind as if I am not in my own hands, G‑d forbid. And this is how long I have been digging tunnels to save myself — and have not succeeded. Now how does one merit to the holy judgment; that I merit to examine and to probe my mind concerning my deeds; and to try myself — in such a manner that I find a correct and true path and counsel; that I merit to fulfill it; in such a manner that I return from now from all my evil ways and my evil thoughts; and not return to my folly. In such a manner that I merit to return in complete repentance before You in truth; and to always engage in the holy judgment to try myself as is fitting as Your will and the will of the true tzadikim desire; until I merit through the judgment that I pass upon myself — to remove and to nullify all the judgments and rulings from above upon me; so that no adversary or accuser shall have power to arouse any judgment or ruling upon me at all. Full of mercy — have pity upon me and help me and save me through Your true salvations. For I have already said before You many times: all the true and wondrous counsels that You revealed to us through the true tzadikim : even if they are all proper and upright; all beloved; all clear; all holy — and all stand in the height of the world; yet because of the immensity of our materiality and our stubbornness it is very difficult for us to fulfill the counsel itself. Especially since most matters each depends upon the other; and I do not know from where the beginning is — for I am distant from joy because I have greatly blemished the holy Bris ; and conversely — it is also difficult and heavy upon me to return for the blemish of the Bris and to merit to repair the Bris ; because I am distant from joy. For the main guarding of the Bris is through joy [ simchah ]; as is explained in the words of our sages of blessed memory in many places. And now — from where shall my help come; from where shall my salvation come; from where shall I seek help and remedy for one as sick and dejected as I. I have wandered through all four corners — and found no remedy; I have returned to You in shame of face to seek You O G‑d in my time of trouble. And I prostrate myself and supplicate before You — full of mercy; at every time; King Who loves righteousness and justice: that You grant me merit and help me and save me and teach me and guide me at every time through the holy judgment paths — to know and to understand and to comprehend how to judge and to try myself every single day concerning all the things I have done. And to find a correct and true counsel — that I merit to fulfill it; in such a manner that I return from now from all my evil ways and evil thoughts; and not return to my folly. In such a manner that I merit to return in complete repentance before You in truth; and to always engage in the holy judgment to try myself as is fitting. Until I merit through the judgment that I pass upon myself — to remove and to nullify all the rulings and judgments from above upon me; so that no adversary or accuser shall have power to arouse any judgment or ruling upon me at all. Master of the Universe — I know that I have no power for this to remove all the judgments and rulings from upon me through my judgment and my ruling; for I do not engage in this as is fitting. But for this have I come to entreat and to supplicate before You — Master of mercies: that these words of mine that I speak before You shall be in place of the judgment that I need to pass upon myself. And may You arouse the power of the holy judgment of all the true and G‑d-fearing tzadikim who engaged in this all the days of their lives; and judged and tried themselves more and more than what befitted them — many times; and accepted upon themselves and endured sufferings and troubles and harsh and bitter afflictions on behalf of the collective of Israel. And many of them died and were killed for the sanctification of the Name in very harsh and bitter sufferings. Through their merit and power — may You banish and break and sweeten and nullify all the rulings and judgments from upon me and from upon all the members of my household and from upon all who are joined to me and from upon all of Israel. And nullify all the troubles — generally and in particular; in material and spiritual matters; in body and soul and money. And give no power to any emissaries of judgment [ sheluchei hadin ] — called runners [ ratzim ] — in the aspect of legs [ raglin ]; to go to execute any judgment upon Israel, G‑d forbid — neither upon the collective of Israel nor upon any individual of Israel. And even the judgments and rulings and decrees that have already been handed to the runners and the emissaries of judgment, G‑d forbid; and even if the runners have already gone out in haste and urgency through the word of the King to execute some judgment and ruling upon Israel, G‑d forbid. Please — merciful One; through Your abundant mercies: have pity upon Your people the House of Israel through the merit of the true tzadikim who judged and tried themselves as is fitting; and through the merit of all the holy ones who were killed for the sanctification of Your Name. And may You turn and nullify and take and remove from all the emissaries of judgment the power of the judgment and the ruling that You entrusted to them; and may You say to the angel: Desist your hand [ II Samuel 24:16 ]; and may his sword return to its sheath [ I Chronicles 21:27 ]. For You hold the attribute of judgment by the hand; as it is written: And My hand takes hold of judgment [ Deuteronomy 32:41 ]. And even when You throw an arrow — You can return it through Your mercies. Have mercy upon me and upon all who depend upon me and upon all of Israel; and nullify from upon us all manner of troubles and judgments that are in the world; nullify from upon us all harsh decrees; and in particular all the harsh and bitter decrees that have been heard — that they seek to decree upon Israel, G‑d forbid. Alas for us that we have seen this; alas and allay; our eyes have wasted away through the affliction of this trouble. Master of all worlds — who can endure such a trouble? Alas, alas, alas — who can measure the bitterness of this hard trouble; alas who can stand in this. O Heaven — awake to our grief; O Heaven — intercede on our behalf. Angels of mercy — ministers of the Most High: entreat please the face of G‑d with the best of speech; perhaps He will have pity — perhaps He will have mercy upon the poor and destitute people; perhaps, perhaps He will have mercy; perhaps He will have mercy. Righteous ones who are the foundation of the world [ tzadikei yesodei olam ] — arise all who dwell in the dust to intercede on our behalf in this bitter time of distress. Fathers of the world — Seven Shepherds [ shiva ro'im ]: Avraham, Yitzhak, Yaakov, Moshe, Aharon, Yosef, David. And all the Mothers: Sarah, Rivkah, Rachel and Leah. And the twelve tribes of God [ shneim asar shivtei Yah ]; and all the elders and prophets — the early and the later; and all the Tannaim and Amoraim; and all the true tzadikim and the holy ones and the G‑d-fearing and the wholehearted who were in all the generations until this very day: arise please; arouse please — all of you from the smallest to the greatest. Do not be silent and do not be still; take your stand to help us in this time of distress. Strive and multiply supplication and entreaty before the King — the lofty and exalted G‑d; may He remember your love and revive your seed; and nullify from us all harsh decrees. And we have no one to lean upon except upon the mercy of the Blessed Name; and upon your great and holy power. Look not upon our deeds which are not good; nor upon our sins and our iniquities and our transgressions which are so many and so immense — for already you endured sufferings and troubles greatly on our behalf in your lifetimes. Look upon the little from the little good that is still found in us; for even in the worst sinners of Israel there are found many good points. And all the more so there are still found some upright and G‑d-fearing and true tzadikim even now; for there is no orphaned generation; and praise be to G‑d — Israel is not widowed: I awoke and I am still with You [ Psalms 139:18 ]. Have pity and compassion and mercy — and hear the voice of the crying out and the beseeching of Your people Israel; who cried out before You — men and women and young children — from the day this bitter decree was heard; until several souls have died and weakened through this. And even though we are now lax from crying out and returning as is fitting — do You not know the weakness of our strength? For we are flesh and blood and of clay were we formed; and You know our inclination — for we are all the work of Your hands [ Isaiah 64:7 ]; and in particular in these weak generations — in material and spiritual matters. Have mercy, have mercy — Master of mercies; save, save — Master of salvations. For there is none who stands in our defense — let Your great Name stand for us in a time of distress. Look from Heaven and see that we have become a mockery and a scorn among the nations; we have been reckoned like sheep for slaughter: to kill and to destroy and to strike and to shame. Yet through all this Your Name we have not forgotten — do not forget us. See Your people very afflicted ; see that all the main grief of Israel is only because they seek to force them away from the religion of Israel, G‑d forbid — therefore they walk in darkness: weary and pursued; groaning and crushed; waiting to die for You and there is none; and their eyes fail all day long from hearing some true salvation. And their eyes are suspended to You alone — like the eyes of servants to the hand of their masters; like the eyes of a maidservant to the hand of her mistress — so are our eyes to Hashem our G‑d until He shall be gracious to us [ Psalms 123:2 ]. Be gracious to us Hashem — be gracious to us; for we are very full of contempt [ Psalms 123:3 ]. May Your innards move and Your mercies be aroused upon us; have pity upon us according to the multitude of Your compassion; and do not pour Your fury upon us. For we are Your people — children of Your covenant. Through the merit of our fathers and our masters the true tzadikim who intercede before You on our behalf always. Turn back from Your fierce anger and relent from the evil against Your people [ Exodus 32:12 ]. Redeemer and Savior — Who ransoms and rescues and sustains and answers and has mercy at every time of distress and anguish: guard us and save us and ransom us from all the troubles and from all the judgments of the world (and in particular from the troubles and decrees of this very time — G‑d save us; G‑d spare us). Have pity, Hashem , upon the remnant of Israel Your people; and save us from all evil and from all the harsh decrees of the world. And may You remove and take away and nullify all the rulings and judgments from Israel; until we merit through the nullification of the judgments to great joy [ simchah gedolah ] — that the joy shall grow until it reaches into the legs [ raglin ]; that we merit to dance greatly from within joy. Let us exult and rejoice in Your salvation [ Psalms 9:15 ] — with joy and exultation; ringing; exultation; joy and gladness. (And in particular in the days of joy and Yom Tov and the days of the holy festival of so-and-so) that come to greet us in peace. Have mercy upon us and strengthen us to rejoice in them with all our might — for they are the time of our joy [ z'man simchaseinu ]. Mighty to save — have mercy upon us; and let us hear good and true tidings speedily — that all the harsh decrees have been nullified; so that we may merit to rejoice in the joy of the holy festival that comes upon us for good; and may our joy not be mixed, G‑d forbid. Have mercy upon us for Your Name's sake; and gladden us on this holy festival that comes upon us for good — with great joy; with true joy in Your great and holy Name that is called upon us. And may the verse be fulfilled: In Your Name shall they rejoice all the day — and in Your righteousness shall they be exalted [ Psalms 89:17 ]. Until we merit to draw the joy from this holy and awesome festival over the entire year. And strengthen us and embolden us to always be in joy; until we merit through the joy to the true guarding of the holy Bris ; as is fitting for the Israelite man chosen from all the peoples and tongues. And through Your abundant mercies — may You Yourself guard our holy covenant from all manner of blemishes of the world; and do as Your wonders — and grant us merit through Your mercies speedily to the repair of the Bris in the ultimate fitting repair chosen in truth as Your good will desires. For through the immensity of Your wonders and Your goodnesses and Your abundant lovingkindnesses; and through the power and merit of the true tzadikim who guarded the covenant in ultimate perfection beyond which there is no further perfection — I am confident and reliant: that You shall repair me and all of Israel; and transform everything for good; until even those who are very very greatly blemished in the blemish of the covenant shall be included within the repair of the covenant in truth — for nothing is withheld from You. Have pity and compassion upon me; have pity and compassion upon me and upon all our fellowship and upon all of Israel. Have pity and mercy upon us; have pity and mercy upon our shame and our disgrace — for we are despised in our own eyes and very greatly rejected; until it is very difficult for us to endure ourselves. Help us and save us and ransom us and redeem us now for Your Name's sake. Guard my soul and save me — let me not be put to shame for I have taken refuge in You [ Psalms 25:20 ]. Gladden the soul of Your servant — for to You Hashem I lift my soul [ Psalms 86:4 ]. Make me hear joy and gladness — may the bones that You have crushed rejoice [ Psalms 51:10 ]. Save Hashem Your people — the remnant of Israel: in every process of the cycle may all their needs be before You; even at an hour when You are filled against them with the wrath like a pregnant woman — may all their needs be before You to have mercy upon them speedily . Blessed are You — Who hears prayer . Do Your will in the heavens above and grant satisfaction to those who fear You below; and the good in Your eyes — do . Blessed are You — Who hears prayer . Hear the pleading of Your people Israel — and quickly fulfill their request . Blessed are You — Who hears prayer . Hear the cry of Your people Israel — and quickly fulfill their request . Blessed are You — Who hears prayer . The needs of Your people Israel are many and their knowledge is short: May it be Your will, Hashem our G‑d, that You give to each and every one according to his livelihood; and to each body according to its lack . Blessed are You — Who hears prayer . May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer [ Psalms 19:15 ]. Blessed is Hashem forever — Amen and Amen [ Psalms 89:53 ]. May it be Your will — that the harsh judgments and the severe powers [ dinin v'gevuros kashios ] be sweetened from upon (this person — son/daughter of this person) through the supernal wonder [ pela elyon ]; and may all the judgments upon him/her be sweetened through the Name of Hashem — simple; and full; and full of full — which totals forty-two letters [ mem beis osiyos ] — and in Atzilus they shall be sweetened through the simple and full Name of Hashem . Please — have mercy; full of mercy: have mercy upon this sick person (or upon this person if he is in some other trouble — G‑d have mercy). And arouse all three hands that are in the supernal Binah — which are in all three worlds: Atzilus , Beriah , Yetzirah ; that is: the great hand [ yad ha'gedolah ]; the mighty hand [ yad ha'chazakah ]; and the raised hand [ yad ha'ramah ]. And through this may You sweeten and nullify all the judgments [ dinim ] of this world of Asiyah from upon this sick person and from all of Israel; and redeem him speedily from all the troubles and all the judgments that have been decreed upon him — even if the verdict has already been issued. And may You send him speedily a complete healing from Heaven: healing of the soul and healing of the body — among the other sick of Israel. And may You teach me and guide me at every time when people bring me money for a redemption [ pidyon ] — that I merit to know and to intend the truth: how many coins the person needs to give for his redemption according to the judgments that are attached to him. And likewise have mercy upon the one who brings the pidyon — that he not be miserly; and may he give according to what needs to be given; in such a manner that all the judgments go out from him and ascend and rise to the three supernal holy hands — and be sweetened at their supernal root in the supernal Binah . For it is revealed and known before You that I have no one who knows to any degree how to conduct myself in this. Have mercy — full of mercy — upon this poor generation for which there is none who stands in our defense. Have mercy upon all of Israel and upon this sick person; and sweeten and nullify all the judgments from upon him and from upon all of Israel; and heal him speedily with a complete healing and restore him and revive him and return him to his strength soon. And arouse his heart that he return to You in truth speedily; and be filled with mercy upon him — for You are the Master of mercies. Redeem O G‑d Israel from all its troubles [ Psalms 25:22 ]; for we have no one to lean upon except upon our Father in Heaven; as it is written: Let Israel hope to Hashem — for with Hashem there is lovingkindness; and abundant with Him is redemption; and He shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities [ Psalms 130:7–8 ]. Amen — so may it be His will.

May it be Your will, Hashem my G‑d and G‑d of my fathers — that You be in our help; that we merit to gather together and to associate every single day for Your service and Your awe. And may we merit that each and every one speak with his fellow in the fear of Heaven; and arouse each one his fellow to Your service and Your awe; and may they remind one another; and strengthen one another; and make known to one another Your truth and Your faithfulness and Your greatness and Your goodness that fills all the world — in such a manner that there shall always be drawn upon us the straight light and the returning light [ or yashar v'or chozer ]. And may the building of holiness be built and completed through us always — at every day and time and hour. And may all the holy lights illuminate within our hearts; that we merit to be aroused in truth toward You and return to You with a whole heart; and not walk anymore after the stubbornness of our evil heart. Rather may we merit to engage all our days in Torah and prayer and good deeds. And may we add each day more holiness and knowledge; and may each single day be longer than its fellow in added holiness and purity and awe and love — in truth and in faith; so that we not be put to shame or disgraced forever and ever. And may the verse be fulfilled in us: Then those who fear Hashem spoke one to another; and Hashem listened and heard; and a book of remembrance was written before Him — for those who fear Hashem and for those who contemplate His Name [ Malachi 3:16 ]. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer [ Psalms 19:15 ]. Amen and Amen. Full of mercy — great and awesome G‑d: give me complete fear in truth; the fear of punishment [ yiras ha'onesh ] and the fear of majesty [ yiras ha'romemus ] — in ultimate holiness and perfection. Help me and save me speedily and grant me merit that Your fear shall be upon my face — so that I not sin again with any sin or iniquity at all; if I have acted wickedly — I shall not continue [ Job 34:32 ]; and may I not return to my folly. And grant us merit through Your abundant mercies — me and my seed and all the seed of Your people the House of Israel — to draw close to true tzadikim ; who are the treasury of the fear of Heaven; who are filled with fear and dread and awe of You. Grant me merit to draw close to them in truth; until I merit to receive from them holy and pure fear: the lower fear [ yirah tata'ah ] and the higher fear [ yirah ila'ah ] — higher and higher — in ultimate perfection in truth. And be in my help and save me at every time — that we merit to break all the great and immense obstacles; and all the curtains of partition and prevention from drawing close to G‑d-fearing true tzadikim . Both obstacles from people — close and distant; great and small; obstacles of the mind; obstacles because of money and burdens and labors; and all other kinds of obstacles and delays and confusions — may I merit through Your mercies to break them all and nullify them; and to strive and toil with all the striving and the toiling; and to come with alacrity to the true tzadikim ; and may no obstacle or delay in the world prevent me at all. Please — merciful and righteous One; awe-inspiring and awesome: You know the immensity of the holy fear that the true tzadikim merited through their service and their toil and their self-sacrifice in truth to You; until they merited to know You and to be in awe of You with wondrous fear — supernal fear higher and higher; which has the power that their holy fear reaches even unto us. Have mercy upon us for their sake; and cause to flow upon us from their holy and wondrous fear — that we merit also to complete fear of You always; and may Your fear be upon our faces that we not sin again; and may we return to You in truth and with a whole heart. Have mercy upon me for Your Name's sake; and grant me merit to long and to yearn always to draw close to true G‑d-fearing tzadikim ; until through the intensifying of the longing and the will in truth — I merit to break all manner of obstacles of the world; and to endure all manner of burdens and toils and sufferings for the sake of drawing close to true tzadikim ; until I merit to draw close to them and to cleave to them in truth; and to draw and receive from them complete fear in truth; in such a manner that I merit to be as Your good will desires in truth always forever and ever. And through the obstacles and the toils and the burdens that I endure for the sake of drawing close to true tzadikim — through this may there be made a holy and pure vessel through which to receive upon it an abundance of goodness and blessing and all good for us and for all the House of Israel. Teach me, Hashem , Your way; that I may walk in Your truth — unify my heart to fear Your Name [ Psalms 86:11 ]. Master of the Universe — full of mercy; awesome and sublime: answer us; grant us merit speedily to complete fear in truth. Holy are You and awesome is Your Name; before Whom all the heavenly host cringe and tremble from the dread of Your Name: seraphim and creatures and holy ofanim and all the awesome angels tremble and are frightened from the splendor of Your majesty; and all of them perform Your will with dread and with fear. Hashem — I heard Your report; I was afraid. Hashem — in the midst of the years revive it; in the midst of the years make it known; in wrath — remember mercy [ Habakkuk 3:2 ]. Give us fear — full of mercy; give us fear — awe-inspiring and awesome; give us fear — G‑d of all the tzadikim who are the root of fear. Place Your dread, Hashem our G‑d, upon all Your works; and Your awe upon all that You have created; and may all the creatures fear You; and may all the creations bow before You; and may they all form one union to do Your will with a whole heart . Master of the Universe — You are awesome; do with us awesome and wondrous deeds; in such a manner that we merit to return to You in truth. With awesome deeds in righteousness You answer us — O G‑d of our salvation; the trust of all the ends of the earth and the distant seas [ Psalms 65:6 ]. Teach me, Hashem , Your way; that I may walk in Your truth — unify my heart to fear Your Name [ Psalms 86:11 ]. Holy and awesome One — save us and grant us merit to come to all that we have requested from before You; and give us complete fear of You in truth; until we merit through the fear to bring great gratification and delight before You; and through this may You cause to flow upon us an abundance of goodness and blessing and mercy and life and peace: sons, life and sustenance in abundance; wealth and honor and life and all good — in material and spiritual matters in this world and in the World to Come; so that we not be put to shame or disgraced or stumble forever and ever. And raise us up speedily higher and higher; until we merit to the higher fear in ultimate perfection; and through this may our deeds be completed before You in great perfection; until we merit that Your great and holy Name be completed through us always in ultimate perfection as Your good will desires. And may Your Name be magnified forever; and may all who come into the world return to You; and may they all serve You with dread and with fear and with great awe. They shall thank Your great and awesome Name — holy is He [ Psalms 99:3 ]. And may the verse speedily be fulfilled: The earth has given its produce; may G‑d our G‑d bless us. May G‑d bless us — and may all the ends of the earth fear Him [ Psalms 67:7–8 ]. And it is said: And the nations shall fear the Name of Hashem ; and all the kings of the earth — Your glory [ Psalms 102:16 ]. And it is said: For Hashem Most High is awesome — a great King over all the earth [ Psalms 47:3 ]. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer [ Psalms 19:15 ]. And I — through Your abundant lovingkindness I shall come into Your house; I shall bow toward Your holy Palace in Your fear [ Psalms 5:8 ]. Blessed is Hashem G‑d — the G‑d of Israel — Who alone does wondrous things. And blessed is His glorious Name forever; and may His glory fill all the earth — Amen and Amen [ Psalms 72:18–19 ]. Master of the Universe — grant us merit to the faith of the sages [ emunath chachamim ] in truth and in perfection. Help me that I merit to believe in truth in the words of the true tzadikim ; that I merit to believe with complete faith that all their words and their deeds are not simple — and that within them there are great hidden mysteries and secrets; and they are filled with wonders; for hidden within their words are novellae and future wondrous and awesome events; until I merit to see the mighty deeds of Hashem and His wonders through their holy words; to see that all that passes over us all our days — all of it was hinted in their holy words spoken in truth and in righteousness; in wondrous and awesome and very sublime wisdom — for they were hinting to us all this in their words and their conversations which we heard from their mouths; or from the mouths of others in their names; or from their holy and awesome books. Full of mercy — grant us merit to this complete faith and to this knowledge and understanding; until I find in their words in retrospect all that has passed over us through Your mercies. And may I merit to always be close and cleaved to true tzadikim and their faithful followers; and to walk in their straight and wholesome ways; and to believe in them with complete faith; until I merit to return to You in truth and to be as Your good will desires all the days of my life. And may You hasten and speed to redeem us; and bring us our righteous Mashiach. And may the verse speedily be fulfilled: As in the days of your going out from the land of Egypt — I shall show him wonders [ Micah 7:15 ]. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer [ Psalms 19:15 ]. Blessed is Hashem G‑d — the G‑d of Israel — Who alone does wondrous things. And blessed is His glorious Name forever; and may His glory fill all the earth — Amen and Amen [ Psalms 72:18–19 ]. I was forgotten like a dead man from the heart — I became like a lost vessel [ Psalms 31:13 ]. I have wandered like a lost sheep — seek Your servant; for Your commandments I have not forgotten [ Psalms 119:176 ]. Master of the Universe — O that I were as in months of old — as in the days when G‑d watched over me; when His lamp shone over my head — by His light I walked through darkness [ Job 29:2–3 ]. Full of mercy: You know all the attainments and the knowledge that my soul knew and attained before it went out into the air of this world — in the time I was in my mother's womb during the nine months of gestation. For there was a lamp burning over my head and I was gazing by its light from one end of the world to the other [ Niddah 30b ]. And when it went out into the air of the world — immediately all this great light was forgotten and lost from me. And I need all the days of my life to seek and to search after this. To search and to seek with all my power after my lost thing that I lost and that I forgot. And I — through the immensity of my materiality and my stubbornness: not only have I not striven to search and to seek as is fitting after my lost thing; but also I did the very opposite — for I followed after the desire of my heart and multiplied sin and transgression against You; through which I further lost even more with my own hands; until I grew so distanced from You as I have grown distanced; and all the goodness of my soul was forgotten and lost from me — all the eternal good; all the true good. And I know no way at all how to seek and to search after my lost thing; my very many lost things — for I have almost lost myself entirely; G‑d forbid. Had Hashem not been my help — my soul would almost have dwelt in silence [ Psalms 94:17 ]. Had Your Torah not been my delight — I would then have perished in my affliction [ Psalms 119:92 ]. And now what shall I do and what shall I effect? Master of the Universe — Knower of hidden things to the infinite depth; Watcher of secrets; Who watches and gazes to the end of all generations: You alone know where all my many lost things are. And through Your great lovingkindness You had compassion upon us with very great and abundant compassion; and You revealed to us that all the lost things of each and every one are with the true tzadikim . But through our many iniquities — we are very far from the true tzadikim ; with whom all our lost things are; and we have no one who knows to any degree who is the true tzadik — with whom all our lost things are. And all the more so we know no way how to seek and to search by him after all our many and immense lost things of each and every one. Full of mercy — open Your eyes and see our desolation; that we walk like those who wander and have nothing to seek in; like orphans with no father; like the impure who have no one to purify them; like the poor who have none to be gracious to them. I raise my eyes to the mountains — from where shall my help come? [ Psalms 121:1 ]. Whither am I driven to seek help; to whom among the holy ones shall I turn? And I said: my eternity and my hope have perished from Hashem [ Lamentations 3:18 ]. This I shall bring back to my heart — therefore I shall hope. The lovingkindnesses of Hashem — for they are not exhausted; for His mercies have not ceased [ Lamentations 3:21–22 ]. Therefore I have come before You — true Master of mercies: that You have mercy upon me for Your Name's sake; and have pity and compassion upon me through the immensity of Your compassion; may Your innards move and Your mercies be aroused upon me. And may You open my eyes speedily — that I merit to see and to know the true tzadik — with whom all my lost things are. And may I merit to break all the obstacles and to draw close to him speedily. And through Your mercies may You assist me — that I merit to toil and to labor and to strive with all my power all my days — to seek and to search by him after all my lost things that I lost from my very beginning until this very day; until I merit to find them in my lifetime speedily; in such a manner that I merit to return to You in truth — to know You and to draw close to You and to cleave to You in truth. And may You guard me and save me from now — that I not lose any further lost thing at all from now and forever. Have mercy upon me for Your Name's sake; have pity upon the prayer of the destitute one [ ha'ar'ar ] such as I today; as it is written: He has turned to the prayer of the destitute — and has not despised their prayer [ Psalms 102:18 ]. And it is written: For He has not despised nor disdained the affliction of the poor; and has not hidden His face from him — and when he cried to Him, He heard [ Psalms 22:25 ]. Make known to me the path of life — the fullness of joys before Your face; pleasantness at Your right hand forever [ Psalms 16:11 ]. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer [ Psalms 19:15 ]. Amen and Amen. Master of the Universe — Living G‑d and Eternal King; Joy of Israel: have mercy upon me for Your Name's sake; and rescue me from sadness and from sloth — which have been my downfall; and caused me to be prevented greatly from Torah and prayer and from much good; and brought me to what they brought me. As You have made known to us through Your holy sages — that the main snake-bite [ neshikas ha'nachash ] is sadness and sloth — G‑d save us. Have mercy upon me — full of mercy; and rescue me from now from these bites. Give me life that I may live. Gladden the soul of Your servant — for to You, Hashem , I lift my soul [ Psalms 86:4 ]. Make me hear joy and gladness — may the bones that You have crushed rejoice [ Psalms 51:10 ]. Grant me merit to hasten in Your Torah and Your service always with great alacrity and with great and immense joy — as is fitting to hasten and to rejoice in Your service and Your holy Torah; which are our life and the length of our days in this world and in the World to Come forever and eternal; and apart from this all is vanished vapor — vapor of vanities; there is no substance in it. What advantage has a man in all his toil that he toils under the sun [ Ecclesiastes 1:3 ] — aside from Torah and prayer and service. Who revives the dead with abundant mercy; Who supports the fallen and heals the sick and releases the bound; and Who keeps His faith to those who sleep in the dust: revive me and raise me up from the dust of the earth — for through our many iniquities we have descended to the literal dust and beyond; for our soul has bowed down to the dust — our belly has cleaved to the ground [ Psalms 44:26 ]. Arise — be our help and redeem us for the sake of Your lovingkindness [ Psalms 44:27 ]. My soul cleaves to the dust — revive me according to Your word [ Psalms 119:25 ]. For You raise the poor from the dust and lift the destitute from the refuse-heap [ I Samuel 2:8 ]. Raise me up through Your mercies and Your wonders — from all the descents and the falls into which I have fallen until now; for there is none who can raise me up except You and the true tzadikim alone. Grant me merit to the alacrity and the joy that revive the minds and the whole stature of the person. May Your hand be established with me — and may Your arm also strengthen me [ Psalms 89:22 ]; and may You strengthen me at every time in the ways of Your deep and wondrous counsels; in such a manner that I merit to completely banish from me the sadness and the sloth; and to transform them into great alacrity and joy. My soul shall live and shall praise You — and Your judgments shall help me [ Psalms 119:175 ]; for from You nothing is withheld and there is no matter prevented from You. Who is like You — Master of mighty deeds; and who resembles You — King Who causes death and revives and causes salvation to sprout: fulfill in me the literal revival of the dead; for You through Your mercies have already multiplied Your wonders with me beyond measure at every day and time and hour from my very beginning until this very day. Revive me and sustain me from now in true life in this world and in the World to Come. Let me taste through Your mercies and Your wonders from the life that the true tzadikim of blessed memory merited — who were alive; truly alive at every time; and merited new and awesome and wondrous life at every time. And there is power in their life to cause to flow upon me the light of life even now as I am; in such a manner that even I merit to live in any case from now in true life; long life; good life; life that is truly called life. Amen. Hashem — You have searched me and You know; You know my sitting down and my rising up; You perceived my thought from afar. My path and my lying down You have winnowed — and all my ways You have become familiar with. For there is no word on my tongue: behold, Hashem — You know all of it entirely [ Psalms 139:1–4 ]. Master of the Universe — Giver of the Torah; lover of His people Israel; Who chooses His people Israel with love: You through Your mercies gave us free will [ bechirah ] — that we have the power to choose life or the opposite, G‑d forbid. And this matter of the power of free will that You gave to humanity is a wonder of wonders; the greatest wonder among all the wonders of Your creations that You created in all the worlds (as is cited in several holy books) — for there is nothing more wondrous and awesome and mysterious and hidden in all the creation of all the worlds than this sublime wonder and this wondrous and hidden novelty: that there shall exist and be created in the world with Your power an entity that shall have the power of free will — to choose the path it desires; to have the power to do Your will or against Your will, G‑d forbid. And concerning this King David upon him be peace said: Wonderfully I am distinguished; wondrous are Your works — and my soul knows this very well. Knowledge too wondrous for me — it is exalted; I cannot reach it. Where shall I go from Your spirit — and where from Your face shall I flee? [ Psalms 139:14–7 ]. And therefore I have come before You — Master of wonders; that You be in my help and save me and be with me always — that I incline the power of my free will toward You and toward Your will; that I merit always at every time to choose life — in the way of good and truth as Your will and the will of the true tzadikim desires; and not deviate from Your will right or left all the days of my life forever. Master of the Universe — Master of all: You made known to us through Your mercies that the main power of free will of Israel — who received the Torah through Moshe our master upon him be peace — is only because You did not speak with Israel themselves directly to their faces; rather all Your words were with Moshe our master upon him be peace; and they heard in Your speaking with him. And because of this we have the power of free will over all the words of this Torah — for all that Hashem speaks to a person directly they are compelled to do without free will. And Moshe our master did not have the power of free will over the commandments of the Torah; rather all his free will was in the matter of: Moshe added one day on his own understanding [ Shabbos 87a ] — that is: in what You did not explain to him explicitly; and he was compelled to understand on his own how to conduct himself; and in this was all the power of his free will. And behold I in my poverty — since the desires and the traits overpower me as they do; and pursue me greatly at every time; and I have great free will over all the words of the Torah; and I need great strengthening and salvation and great mercies from You Blessed be He — that I merit to incline the power of my free will toward life; to choose the good and to despise the evil. And now what shall I do — since in addition to all this I am greatly confused in many matters: how to conduct myself in them; and my mind and my counsel is greatly divided in many matters that I do not know at all how to intend Your will in truth — how to conduct myself in them. And it seems to me that if I knew Your will in truth I would certainly conduct myself as Your will desires. And now — Hashem our G‑d — our Father are You; we are the clay and You are our Potter; and we are all the work of Your hands [ Isaiah 64:7 ]. Teach me and guide me what I shall do and what I shall effect — for Moshe our master and the other great and awesome tzadikim ; who had free will in matters such as these in which they were uncertain as to what Your will was; had great power and might. For they were mighty in power — doers of His word; resembling the very angels [ Psalms 103:20 ]. And they had already entirely broken all the desires; and had no free will at all from the side of desire in any matter of the world. And therefore it was fitting that they should have free will in the aspect of: Moshe added one day on his own understanding — namely: those things in which they were uncertain; for they were truly fitting for this. But a person as coarse and thick as I — who has multiplied transgressions against You; and the desires still pursue me so greatly; and I am always thinking thoughts — to find counsel and a scheme and a remedy to push them away from me; and my power of free will is very coarsened. What shall I do — when in addition to this I am confused greatly; and there are so many doubts and divisions of counsel in many matters that I do not know how to conduct myself in them. With what shall I merit to find the straight and correct path in truth; in such a manner that I merit to draw close to You truly and to its very truth. Guide me, Hashem , in Your way; that I may walk in Your truth — unify my heart to fear Your Name [ Psalms 86:11 ]. Lead me in Your truth and teach me — for You are the G‑d of my salvation [ Psalms 25:5 ]. Teach me, Hashem , Your way — and lead me in an even path because of my watchers [ Psalms 27:11 ]. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer [ Psalms 19:15 ]. Amen and Amen. Master of the Universe: because of the great confusion of my mind — my arguments are blocked and I cannot explain my conversation well. But You know all that is in my heart; and You know all my needs; and therefore have mercy upon me and save me and help me. For I trust in You — that You will save me from all that I need to be saved from; and may I merit to fulfill all the commandments always. Make known to me the path of life — fullness of joy in Your presence; pleasantness at Your right hand forever [ Psalms 16:11 ]. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer. Amen and Amen. Master of the Universe — full of mercy: You know how very far I am from this beyond measure; for I still need to entreat greatly to be saved from Gehinnom; from the lowest pit of She'ol and below it — for I have multiplied transgressions against You; until my iniquities have passed over my head like a heavy burden that is heavier than I [ Psalms 38:5 ]. I have sunk in miry clay with no foothold; I have entered into deep water and the current has swept over me [ Psalms 69:3 ]. And it is not enough for us with the earlier iniquities — for I have added upon them yet new ones. What shall I say; what shall I speak; how shall I justify myself? Yet You have already revealed to us through Your tzadikim the immensity of the multitude of Your mercies and Your lovingkindnesses beyond measure. Therefore I am compelled in every circumstance — to strengthen myself and to prostrate before You and to entreat still to merit all the goods that are in all the worlds; as we were admonished by Your true tzadikim ; who have aroused our ears from You to hope and to await this. Full of mercy; full of mercy: have mercy, have mercy; rescue, rescue; save, save. Rescue me from shame and disgrace in this world and in the World to Come. Rescue me from Your harsh punishments. Rescue me from Your wrath. Have pity upon me according to the multitude of Your mercies. Have mercy upon me and be in my help — to be aroused from now in any case to return to You in truth. Help me from now to be a truly upright person as Your good will desires and as the will of Your true tzadikim ; in such a manner that even I merit to inherit the three hundred and ten worlds [ shai olamot ] [ Uktzin 3:12 ] in truth; and may You not put me to shame through my hope and not confound me through my expectation — for Your mercies are very great; Your mercies are beyond measure. Your mercies are many, Hashem — according to Your judgments revive me [ Psalms 119:156 ]. Have mercy upon me and upon all who depend upon me for Your Name's sake — through the merit and power of the true tzadikim upon whom we always lean. Through their power and their merit have I come before You — Master of mercies; to seek You concerning all these. Who does great things beyond searching — and wonders without number [ Job 9:10 ]: do with me wonders of wonders; in such a manner that I merit from now in any case to be as Your good will desires in truth always; and not return to my folly. Help me from now to banish from me all the evil thoughts and all the confused thoughts. And be with me always to draw all my ideas and thoughts within Torah and prayer; in such a manner that I shall be cleaved to You and to Your Torah and to Your service from now and forever. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer [ Psalms 19:15 ]. Amen and Amen. I remembered the days of old; I meditated on all Your works; on the work of Your hands I muse [ Psalms 143:5 ]. I spread out my hands to You; my soul like a thirsty land for You — Selah [ Psalms 143:6 ]. I shall recall the deeds of Yah — for I shall remember from the beginning Your wonder [ Psalms 77:12 ]. Remember — you shall remember; and my soul bows down over me [ Lamentations 3:20 ]. Master of the Universe — Who remembers all forgotten things: You are from eternity; and there is no forgetting before the Throne of Your glory. Help me and save me for Your Name's sake — that I merit to well remember all the words of the true tzadikim ; that I merited to hear from their mouths and to see in their books. Grant me merit that I well remember through the power of beautiful memory each and every word that issued from their mouths — that I heard from their mouths; or from the mouths of their writings. For You know the immensity of the lofty sublimity of each and every holy word that issued from their mouths — even in worldly matters; which have no measure comparable to them; for all their words are truth and righteousness. And one who merits to receive their words in truth and to engrave them well in the power of his memory — receives the face and the intellect and the soul of the tzadik ; and engraved in the understanding of the one who receives and who hears is the light of the face of the tzadik and his intellect and his soul; all the more so when one hears from them holy words of Torah. And through Your abundant mercies You carved ears for me [ Psalms 40:7 ]; and many times there flashes within my heart — even a little of the immensity of the wonders of the holiness of their awesome words that illuminate the earth and its inhabitants with very wondrous and awesome light beyond searching. Until my heart is aroused a little to draw close to You in truth. But through my many iniquities — the forgetting overpowered me; and the light of their illuminating words was forgotten from me; and I grew distanced from You as I have grown distanced; and I forgot my goodness and let go of their holiness. I was forgotten like a dead man from the heart — I became like a lost vessel [ Psalms 31:13 ]. Therefore I have come before You — Master of mercies; Reminder of forgotten things [ mazkir nishkachos ]: that You have mercy upon me from now; and may You grant me merit to remember from now all the words of truth that I shall hear from the mouths of the true tzadikim ; or that I shall study in their holy books. And may You remind me through Your mercies all that I have already heard and forgotten — all of it may You remind me through Your mercies. And may I not forget anything from my learning all the days of my life forever. Have mercy upon me for Your Name's sake; and grant me merit to true holy memory. To well remember all the words of the holy Torah. And may You grant me merit to persevere well in my study — to meditate in Your holy Torah day and night; and to review each matter one hundred and one times [ Chagigah 9b ]; in such a manner that I always remember every word and every novellum and every reasoning and counsel that You revealed to us in Your holy Torah — which is filled with holy and awesome counsels and lights. And to remember them well through the power of my beautiful memory all the days of my life forever — until the day You gather me to You in peace. And may I merit to come there with all the words of Torah — all the words of the Written Torah and the Oral Torah being bound and engraved and contained and united within my intellect and soul. And may I merit through Your mercies to be included among those who fear You who engage in Your Torah; concerning whom it is said: Fortunate is one who comes here — and his Torah study is in his hand [ Pesachim 50a ]. Have mercy upon me for Your Name's sake; for I in my poverty know my lowliness and my deficiency — how far I am from all this. Yet through Your abundant mercies I have trusted — for You are good and beneficent to all; and You desire that we pray and entreat before You for all the great and true and eternal goodnesses. And on this I have established my stakes — to come before You with a face such as this; to request from You that You illuminate upon me the light of the face of the living King: which is the light of the face of the true tzadikim . Illuminate Your face upon Your servant — save me in Your lovingkindness [ Psalms 31:17 ]. Let Your face shine upon Your servant — and teach me Your statutes [ Psalms 119:135 ]. And may the verse be fulfilled in us: In the light of the face of a living king — and his favor is like a cloud of the late rain [ Proverbs 16:15 ]. May G‑d be gracious to us and bless us — may He illuminate His face with us — Selah [ Psalms 67:2 ]. Blessed is Hashem G‑d — the G‑d of Israel — Who alone does wondrous things. And blessed is His glorious Name forever; and may His glory fill all the earth — Amen and Amen [ Psalms 72:18–19 ]. And be with me in my help and save me quickly — that I merit to fulfill what our masters of blessed memory warned us: to always picture before one's eyes the image of the eternal World to Come [ olam ha'ba ha'nitzchi ]; and to fix one's longing and will and hope on the eternal and permanent World to Come; and not to exchange a permanent world for a passing world — like a passing shadow. Have mercy upon me for Your Name's sake; and grant me merit to true holy memory [ zikaron emes dikdushah ]: to remember well all the words of the holy Torah; and grant me merit to remember all that I have already heard and learned; and may I not forget anything at all from the words of Torah and holiness. Blessed is G‑d — G‑d of Israel — Who alone does wonders; and blessed is His glorious Name forever — and may His glory fill all the earth. Amen and Amen. King of honor — grant me merit that I be truly and completely fleeing from honor. And be with me always; and give me true wisdom and understanding and knowledge; and may I merit to know Your greatness and Your exaltedness and Your dominion — for the fullness of all the earth is His glory; and in every single word the honor of Your kingship is clothed; for speech [ ha'dibbur ] is the palace of the King [ heichal ha'melech ]; until I be nullified in my own eyes before Your honor — and I not desire any honor at all. For who is the fool who would desire honor in the palace of the King — for all the honor is only in the speech which is the palace of the King. And who is the fool who would desire to receive honor in the presence of the King — to Whom alone belong all the honor and the greatness and the dominion? Have mercy upon me and give me true knowledge — to know all this in truth; and not pursue honor at all. Rather on the contrary — may I distance and flee from honor in the ultimate degree in truth; and surrender all the honor to You and to Your truly G‑d-fearing ones alone — whose honor You truly desire. And may the verse be fulfilled: Lift up your heads O gates — and be lifted up you everlasting doors; and the King of honor shall come in. Who is this King of honor? Hashem — mighty and valiant; Hashem — mighty in battle. Lift up your heads O gates — and lift them up you everlasting doors; and the King of honor shall come in. Who is He — this King of honor? Hashem of hosts — He is the King of honor — Selah [ Psalms 24:7–10 ]. Blessed is Hashem G‑d — the G‑d of Israel — Who alone does wondrous things. And blessed is His glorious Name forever; and may His glory fill all the earth — Amen and Amen [ Psalms 72:18–19 ]. When I call — answer me, G‑d of my righteousness; in my distress You expanded me — be gracious to me and hear my prayer [ Psalms 4:2 ]. Master of the Universe — full of mercy; good and beneficent to all: grant me merit and help me and open my eyes and my heart and my mind — that I merit always to look upon the goods and the expansions that You bestow upon me and expand for me even within the very trouble and distress; for only through this do I have life and sustenance within the swirl of my distresses and my troubles — troubles of the soul and the body — which surround and encircle and surround me and tread upon me; so that there is almost no way to turn right or left; for I know not where to flee from myself. For I myself have encompassed in my own soul all that befalls me — through my many iniquities and my evil deeds and my shameful thoughts. Yet even so You have not removed Your lovingkindness from me. The lovingkindnesses of Hashem — for they are not exhausted; for His mercies have not ceased [ Lamentations 3:22 ]. For Your lovingkindness is great upon me; and You have delivered my soul from the lowest She'ol [ Psalms 86:13 ]. Your lovingkindness is very very great upon me at every day and every time and every hour — for were it not for Your wondrous and awesome and sublime lovingkindness that You bestow upon me at every time — I would have already perished in my affliction; were it not that Hashem was my help — my soul would almost have dwelt in silence [ Psalms 94:17 ]. And since Your lovingkindnesses and Your mercies are so great and immense upon me — help me and save me that I merit to feel and to see and to recognize at every time Your lovingkindnesses and Your goods; with which You do good with me at every time and every hour and moment. And may I merit to see and to find all the expansions and the salvations that You expand for me even within the very trouble — G‑d save us. And through this may I merit to rejoice in Your salvation always; and to strengthen and to pray before You always — whatever may be. And may I always be grateful for the past and cry out for the future to come; and let there be in my heart no crookedness at all concerning Your ways and Your conduct — which are good and straight and correct in truth. And in all that befalls me and all of Israel — may I merit to believe with complete faith that You are righteous; for You conduct Your world with lovingkindness and Your creatures with mercy; as it is written: Good is Hashem to all — and His mercies are over all His works [ Psalms 145:9 ]. Have mercy upon us — full of mercy; full of lovingkindness at every time; and banish and nullify from us all manner of crookedness in our hearts; and let no thought or musing arise or enter upon our hearts concerning Your ways and Your conduct. Rather may I merit to gaze and to look upon Your expansions and the wonders of Your lovingkindnesses and Your goods at every time — and even within the very trouble — G‑d save us — You expand for us with wondrous ways and great salvations; aside from what we always await and hope — that You take us out and redeem us speedily from within all the troubles entirely; and save us with a complete salvation — quickly and swiftly. Our Father — compassionate Father; Who has compassion on the poor; Savior in a time of distress: may Your innards move and Your mercies be aroused upon us now in this time of distress. Answer us Hashem — answer us; for we are in great distress . Rock of Israel — arise to the help of Israel; and help us and save us and guard us and rescue us from the blemish of the holy faith — in all that befalls us in these times. For You know the bitterness of the doubled troubles that pass now over Your people the House of Israel; and it is not enough for us with all our troubles — which have reached the very soul; they even overpower further and spread, G‑d forbid, to corrupt the heart of the children of Israel to ponder against Your ways, G‑d forbid; and to blemish Your holy faith, G‑d forbid; and there is none who stands in our defense. Have mercy upon us for Your Name's sake. Guardian of Israel — guard the remnant of Israel ; and have pity through Your abundant mercies upon every single soul of Israel — that none fall from the holy faith through all that passes now over Israel. Rather on the contrary — through this may we all strengthen and be aroused to return to You in truth and with a whole heart; and may we entreat and pray and cry out to You until You answer us. And may we know and believe in truth that You shall never abandon us, G‑d forbid; as it is written: For Hashem shall not abandon His people; and His inheritance He shall not forsake [ Psalms 94:14 ]. And it is said: For Hashem shall not abandon His people for the sake of His great Name — for Hashem was pleased to make you His people [ I Samuel 12:22 ]. Help us O G‑d of our salvation — for the sake of the honor of Your Name; and rescue us and atone for our sins — for the sake of Your Name [ Psalms 79:9 ]. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer [ Psalms 19:15 ]. They shall thank You, Hashem — all Your works; and Your pious ones shall bless You. They shall speak of the honor of Your kingship — and of Your might they shall speak. To make known to the children of men His mighty deeds — and the glorious honor of His kingship [ Psalms 145:10–12 ]. Master of the Universe — great in lovingkindness and truth: have mercy upon me; and guard me and save me from evil speech — and in particular from lashon hara ; that I not speak any evil word against any Jewish person whatsoever — even against the smallest of the small and the most lowly of the lowly; and all the more so against the righteous and pious of the generation who engage in Your service. Have mercy upon me and guard me and save me — that no word should go forth from my mouth against their honor, G‑d forbid; whether to their faces or not to their faces. My G‑d — guard my tongue from evil and my lips from speaking deceit; and to those who curse me may my soul be silent; and my soul shall be like dust to all . Master of all worlds — have mercy upon me; and do not destroy me. Rescue me from quarrel and dispute. Have pity on my soul and guard me — that I not deceive myself into saying that it is a commandment to speak about these people; for I desire no such commandments — neither them nor their reward. Have pity and compassion on our souls and our spirits and our souls [ neshamoseinu ]; and rescue us and all of Israel from lashon hara and dispute. And in particular in the matter of the dispute that is prevalent now among the great ones of the generation and their people; and quarreling among the scholars and their people. Have mercy upon us — Master of mercies — in this time of distress; and guard us and save us from all manner of evil and blemished speech. Place, Hashem , a guard for my mouth — keep watch over the door of my lips [ Psalms 141:3 ]. Do not incline my heart to an evil matter [ Psalms 141:4 ]. That I not search and seek to find, G‑d forbid, a blemish or deficiency in the service of the upright — nor in any Jewish person. And give us power through Your immense mercies and Your wondrous lovingkindnesses to sweeten all manner of severities that come to people — and in particular to the great and the distinguished. Have mercy upon us and be with us always — that we always merit to overpower with all might to speak words of Torah and prayer and the fear of Heaven in truth; in such a manner that we merit to sweeten all manner of severities of the world — from which speech is drawn. And may You guard us and save us from all manner of harsh severities that should not reach us; and have mercy upon the great ones of the generation — upon whom harsh severities reach so that they sweeten them. And be with them always; and give them power through Your mercies and Your abundant lovingkindnesses — to sweeten all the harsh severities of the world that come to them. And may You guard us and all of Israel — and in particular all the great ones of the generation: when there is no power in us, G‑d forbid, to sweeten the severities that come upon us; at the very least may we greatly guard our souls — from speaking ill of any Jewish person; and all the more so, G‑d forbid, of the tzadikim of the generation and their followers. And give power to the true tzadikim of the generation to sweeten all the harsh severities of the world; and make from them a Torah of lovingkindness — to teach others through their Torah: to make known to the children of men His mighty deeds and the glorious honor of His kingship [ Psalms 145:12 ]. And may it be fulfilled for all the sages of Israel: She opened her mouth with wisdom — and the Torah of lovingkindness is on her tongue [ Proverbs 31:26 ]; that they all merit to study Torah in order to teach it; so that they guide the people of Hashem in the true ways of Hashem in truth and righteousness as Your good will desires; and may they sweeten all the severities of the world; and all the decrees and the judgments shall be nullified from Israel; and may You draw upon us good lovingkindnesses always; in such a manner that we and all of Israel merit to return to You in truth speedily; and do Your will all the days of our lives; and in Your Torah shall we meditate day and night from now and forever. Amen Selah. Master of the Universe — Knower of hidden things: You alone know all that has happened in this matter; and how many souls sank in this; that harsh severities reached them — G‑d save us; and they had no power to sweeten them. And through this they stumbled and fell and spoke ill of the Torah and of the tzadikim . And through this they caused several holy and awesome tzadikim to depart [ nistalklu ]; until we remained like orphans with no father; like a mast atop a mountain and a flag upon a hill [ Isaiah 30:17 ]. And there is none who stands in our defense — on whom do we have to lean? Upon our Father in Heaven. Have mercy upon me and upon all of Israel; and guard us and save us — that we not blemish at all in the speech that comes through the severities [ gevuros ]; that the severities not overpower, G‑d forbid, to sour our hearts into speaking ill of any one of Israel. And in particular — guard the great and distinguished ones of the generation; upon whom harsh severities that go out into the world reach at times. And guard them and save them through Your abundant mercies and lovingkindnesses — that they not blemish through the harsh severities at all; that the severities not overpower them to bring them, G‑d forbid, to speak insolently against the tzadikim of the generation and their people — G‑d save us. Rather may You cause to flow upon them and upon us the power from the greatest of Your chosen awesome tzadikim ; and help and save and protect them and us and all of Israel. And give us the power to sweeten all the severities of the world that come upon every single one; and even the harsh severities that come upon the great ones of the generation — may we all merit to sweeten them with complete sweetening; to transform them into complete lovingkindnesses [ chasadim ]; through words of Torah and prayer and the fear of Heaven in truth — that You grant us merit to speak in them always day and night. And may the verse be fulfilled in all the sages of Israel: She opened her mouth with wisdom — and the Torah of lovingkindness is on her tongue [ Proverbs 31:26 ]; that they all merit to study Torah in order to teach it; so that they guide the people of Hashem in the true ways of Hashem in truth and righteousness as Your good will desires; and may they sweeten all the severities of the world; and all the decrees and all the judgments shall be nullified from Israel. And may You draw upon us good lovingkindnesses always; in such a manner that we and all of Israel merit to return to You in truth speedily; and do Your will all the days of our lives; and in Your Torah shall we meditate day and night from now and forever. Amen Selah.
ד אִיָּר
Primordial Singular One: You are hidden and concealed from all worlds — for no thought whatsoever can grasp You at all. Yet through Your abundant mercies You have had compassion upon us; and given us permission to liken and to designate You through names and designations and appellations that Your holy prophets revealed to us; through which we merit to draw down Your glorious Shechinah upon us. Therefore have mercy upon us through Your abundant mercies; and help us and save us — that we merit from now to be aroused and to strengthen ourselves in truth to pray our prayer with great genuine concentration [ kavvanah ]; that we bend our ear well to all the holy and awesome words that we bring forth from our mouth in the entire order of prayer: in the morning blessings; in the order of sacrifices; in the verses of praise [ pesukei d'zimra ]; in the reading of the Shema and its blessings; in the prayer of the eighteen [ tefillas shemoneh esrei ] and in the supplications afterward; in the holy Kedushah of the Seder ; and the song of the day; and in all the particulars of the prayer. And every single word of the praises and appellations with which we liken and designate You — all of them are the image [ temunah ] of Hashem . Grant us merit to pray and to arrange praises before You with great concentration — with great arousal from the depth of the heart in truth; until we merit to the clapping of the hands [ mechias kappayim ] during the prayer — with great burning and with great joy and with intense desire in truth; until we merit through this to gaze upon the image of Hashem [ u'semunas Hashem yabit ] [ Numbers 12:8 ]. And may the verse be fulfilled in each and every one of us: And the image of Hashem he shall behold [ Numbers 12:8 ]. Also may we merit through this — through the clapping of the hands — that our prayer shall be in the aspect of: and the hands of a man beneath their wings [ Ezekiel 1:8 ]. Also may we merit through this that our prayer be encompassed within the Written Torah and the Oral Torah — which are the writing hand and the sealing hand. Have mercy upon us for Your Name's sake; and grant us merit to prayer with heartfelt concentration [ kavvanas ha'lev ] — with great burning in truth; until our hands are aroused to clap — palm upon palm during the prayer; in such a manner that we merit to gaze upon the image of Hashem and to know You in truth; for only for this were we created — to know and to recognize You in truth. Help us for Your Name's sake — that I not lose, G‑d forbid, any further such true and eternal good that is in my power to merit at every time. I have spread out my hands to You — my soul like a thirsty land for You — Selah [ Psalms 143:6 ]. Hasten — answer me Hashem ; my spirit has been consumed; do not hide from me and I become like those who descend into the pit [ Psalms 143:7 ]. Illuminate Your face upon Your servant — save me in Your lovingkindness [ Psalms 31:17 ]. Hashem G‑d of hosts — restore us; illuminate Your face and we shall be saved [ Psalms 80:4 ]. And grant me merit to connect to true tzadikim in truth; and through this may I merit to the fullness of speech — to speak many words in Torah and prayer and the fear of Heaven. May my mouth be filled with Your praise — all the day Your glory [ Psalms 71:8 ]. I shall bless Hashem at all times — always His praise in my mouth [ Psalms 34:2 ]. The praise of Hashem my mouth shall speak — and may all flesh bless His holy Name forever and ever [ Psalms 145:21 ]. Blessed is Hashem forever — Amen and Amen [ Psalms 89:53 ]. You are my shelter — from the foe You shall protect me; with songs of deliverance You shall surround me — Selah [ Psalms 32:7 ]. Conceal me from the counsel of evildoers — from the tumult of those who commit iniquity [ Psalms 64:3 ]. For He will shelter me in His Sukkah on the day of trouble — He will hide me in the shelter of His tent; upon a rock He shall raise me [ Psalms 27:5 ]. He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High — in the shadow of the Almighty shall he rest [ Psalms 91:1 ]. Full of mercy — have mercy upon Your people Israel; and in particular upon all the Jewish towns in which all manner of illnesses and pains are spreading — G‑d save us. Have mercy upon them for Your Name's sake; and say to the angel: desist your hand [ II Samuel 24:16 ]; and may his sword return to its sheath. Have pity and compassion upon them and upon all the remnant of Your people the House of Israel; and may You not allow the destroyer to enter into their homes to strike; or to harm or to weaken, G‑d forbid. Have mercy, have mercy; rescue, rescue — Master of mercies; Master of salvations; Creator of healings; Awesome in praises; Master of wonders: remember Your servants — our fathers and our masters the true tzadikim who were in every generation from the days of our father Avraham until now. For their sake and for the sake of Your abundant mercies — have mercy upon us and guard us and save us; us and all of Your people the House of Israel from all manner of illnesses and pains and aches; that they not come upon any one of Israel. And may You send speedily a complete healing from Heaven to all those (of Israel) whom You have already struck with some illness or pain; have mercy upon them and heal them speedily with a complete healing — healing of the soul and healing of the body. Please G‑d — please heal them [ Numbers 12:13 ] — for Your Name's sake (and in particular the sick one so-and-so son/daughter of so-and-so). For You are G‑d the faithful and merciful healing King. Living and everlasting G‑d — Giver of life: give us life that we may live and not die; redeem us from death; ransom us from the pit. Master of the Universe — Guardian of Israel: You alone know who and who lie in ambush against us at every time; and in particular against one upon whom some evil decree has been decreed, G‑d forbid. And only You alone know how to conceal and to hide each and every one of Israel from the ambushers who surround him. Have mercy upon all of Your people Israel; and in particular upon all upon whom some evil decree has been decreed — G‑d save us. And may You guard them and save them through Your holy Names; and rescue them (and conceal them) through Your abundant mercies — from every adversary and enemy and ambusher and adversary. Have mercy upon us and protect us and remove from us enemy and pestilence and sword and famine and grief; and remove the adversary from before us and from behind us; and in the shadow of Your wings shelter us — for You are G‑d Who guards and saves us. Have pity, Hashem , on Your people and rescue us from Your anger; and remove from us the blow of the plague and harsh decree — for You are the Guardian of Israel . Master of all worlds — Guardian of the simple: Hashem — You alone know in what way; through what Name — to conceal and to guard each and every one of Israel from all manner of harmful encounters and evil afflictions; and from all manner of evil decrees — whether before a verdict or after a verdict. Have mercy upon them and guard them and save them through Your awesome wonders; in such a manner that the ambushers and adversaries shall have no power to enter and to attach themselves, G‑d forbid, beneath the concealment and the covering — with which You cover and conceal through Your mercies and Your lovingkindnesses through Your holy and pure and awesome Names. And may the verse be fulfilled in us and in all of Your people Israel: You shall shelter them in the hiding of Your face from the plottings of man — You shall conceal them in a Sukkah from the strife of tongues [ Psalms 31:21 ]. Guard me as the apple of the eye — in the shadow of Your wings conceal me [ Psalms 17:8 ]. I shall dwell in Your tent forever — I shall take shelter in the hiding of Your wings — Selah [ Psalms 61:5 ]. You are my shelter and my shield — I hope in Your word [ Psalms 119:114 ]. Guard my soul and save me — let me not be put to shame for I have taken refuge in You [ Psalms 25:20 ]. For we have no one to lean upon except upon our Father in Heaven; and we know not what to do — but our eyes are upon You [ II Chronicles 20:12 ]. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer [ Psalms 19:15 ]. Amen and Amen. Master of the Universe — have mercy upon me and save me and help me and rescue me from all manner of illnesses; and in particular from the illness of the lung [ choli ha'rei'ah ] — which is the main source of vitality of the person and the sustaining of the brain and the intellect. Help me and save me that my lung shall always be in perfect condition; and may the wings of the lung hover upon the heart always — to quiet and to extinguish the heat and burning of the heart; so that it not inflame and kindle all the body, G‑d forbid. And may the verse be fulfilled in the wings of the lung: and the Cherubim were spreading their wings over the ark-cover [ Exodus 25:20 ] — the ark-cover of the heart [ kappurta d'libba ]. My Father — compassionate Father: have compassion upon me from now; and teach me counsel and a scheme at every time how to conduct myself from now — in such a manner that I can extinguish and quiet and purify the inflammation of the evil and turbid blood; so that it not burn more than the measure — neither to the right nor to the left; and to filter and to purify the blood from the sediment and the great turbidity within it; in such a manner that I not continue to think any evil thought; and may I not allow the evil fire to continue burning within me at all; and may I not sear and ignite further the moisture within me through the multitude of the desires. Rather may I truly distance myself from all evil desires — and in particular from the desire of cohabitation; and may I not confuse my mind further. Rather may I merit to draw at every time the holiness of the wings of the lung — in material and spiritual terms; that they hover and blow upon the heart; and extinguish and quiet the burning heat of the heart; in such a manner that all the moisture and fattiness of my body shall be sustained in perfection; and all the moisture and fattiness shall ascend to my brain in holiness and in purity; and through them the brain shall illuminate with great light; and my brain and my intellect shall be clear and radiant — and illuminating with great light always; in wisdom and in understanding and in knowledge and in every craft — in the craft of holiness; going and illuminating with ever greater illumination each time — higher and higher; in great holiness and purity in truth and in faith. Full of mercy — Who graciously gives knowledge to man: grant me graciously from You and grant me merit that my intellect and my mind shall be in perfection; in such a manner that I merit to complete trust [ bitachon ] in ultimate perfection; that I merit to trust in You always — that You shall sustain me and support me and give me all my needs always; and may I strengthen myself in trust at every time more and more; and may I be confident in Your lovingkindness that You shall save me in all that I need to be saved — in material and spiritual matters; in body and soul and money. And may I never fall from the trust; and may the great multitude of my immense iniquities not confuse my trust, G‑d forbid. Rather may I merit to strengthen myself at every time and every hour — in all that passes over me — to trust in You always in truth; unto infinity and unto the ultimate end; as it is written: Trust in Hashem forever — for in G‑d Hashem is an eternal Rock [ Isaiah 26:4 ]. And may I be confident in the immensity of Your lovingkindness and Your mercies which are never exhausted and never end forever. For You shall not deal with me according to my sins; G‑d forbid — and not repay me according to my iniquities; rather may You act through Your many wonders and immense lovingkindnesses; through the ways of Your ancient and new lovingkindnesses that You renew each day and each time and each hour. And may You give me all my provision and all the provision of my household and all those dependent upon me and all our needs — with great spaciousness; before we need them. And help me and save me at every time in all that I need to be saved; and grant me merit through the strengthening of the trust — to be generous in charity at every time; and not to think from one day to the next at all; rather all that You cause to flow to me each day — may I scatter it to charity to upright poor people that You arrange for me through Your mercies. And may I merit to support the truly G‑d-fearing who engage in Your Torah and Your commandments in truth — to support and to sustain and to provide for all their needs that they lack. And may no obstacle or delay prevent me from this; rather may I always strengthen myself to be very generous in charity to upright poor people; and to scatter much money for all the needs of commandments and Torah study — and in particular for everything that is a merit of the many for generations. And may I be strong in trust in Your great and holy and awesome Name; that You shall complete my matters for good always; and never abandon me. And may the verse be fulfilled in me: Blessed is the man who trusts in Hashem — and Hashem shall be his trust [ Jeremiah 17:7 ]. Full of mercy — Who performs acts of righteousness with all flesh and spirit: strengthen me and embolden me in complete trust [ bitachon shalem ] at every time; in such a manner that I merit to trust in You completely at every moment of my life; and may all my deeds and all my paths always be directed to You alone; and may no strange thought of heresy [ apikorsus ] or confusion enter my mind at all concerning Your Divine Providence. Hear us and answer us and hear our prayer — for You hear the prayer of every mouth of Your people Israel with mercy. Blessed are You — Who hears prayer. Master of the Universe — Guardian of His people Israel forever: guard us and save us — that we not be drawn at all after the melodies of wailing and sadness that the wicked sing most of the time; and the way of the world is to be very much drawn after them. Have mercy upon us and guard us and save us from them — for You know how many corruptions and blemishes they cause through these melodies of theirs; and how much they harm the upright of Israel — G‑d save us. Have mercy upon us through the power and merit of the true tzadikim ; and be in our help and guard us at every time — that we merit to be saved from them. Grant us merit to gladden our souls always in holiness and in purity through melodies and songs [ nigguns u'zemiros ] of joy — that draw the heart toward You and Your service and Your Torah and Your tzadikim in truth. And help us through the power of the true tzadikim — that we merit to raise up all these melodies of the wicked through the holiness of Shabbos [ kedushas Shabbos ]; that You give us the power to raise them up and to transform them into joy when we sing them on the holy Shabbos. And may the merit of the holy Shabbos protect us — that they shall have no power to draw sadness and grief and sighing, G‑d forbid. Rather on the contrary — may we merit to clarify and to raise them up and to transform them from grief and sighing to exultation and joy. And may we draw close to You and be drawn after You; and may we run exultantly like a warrior to run a path [ Psalms 19:6 ] — to walk in Your ways and to engage in Your Torah and to fulfill Your commandments; and to cleave and to connect to You and to Your true tzadikim — in truth and in faith; in a firm and strong bond forever and ever. Full of mercy — Joy of Israel: have mercy upon us and guard us and save us always at every time from all manner of sadness and from all the depression and distress that come from the melodies of wailing; and help us that we always merit to sing the melodies with great joy and exultation; and to always transform the melodies of grief and sadness into joy and exultation. Yet I will rejoice in Hashem [ Habakkuk 3:18 ]. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer. Amen Selah. Hashem supports all who fall — and straightens all who are bowed [ Psalms 145:14 ]. Have pity and compassion and mercy upon us and upon all the souls of Your people the House of Israel — who are placed in the place where they are placed. And reveal to them and to us the true tzadikim of this generation — who have the power to repair the souls of Israel and to return them to You and to Your Torah in truth. And grant merit to all of us — the House of Israel — to draw close to them in truth. For You know the immensity of the force of the dispute in these generations against the true tzadikim and against their holy books and against all who join them and who are called by their holy name. You know all that has passed in this matter and what is still passing now in this matter — for a great quarreling has arisen among scholars and their people; and still the dispute stands in its place and is aroused and overpowers more and more each time. And certainly Your holy intent is for good — in order that souls should draw close to the true tzadikim through sufferings and obstacles; for it is not fitting to draw close to them through greatness — but rather through dispute and sufferings and many obstacles; as You made known to us through Your holy sages: that for this reason converts are not accepted in the days of the Mashiach etc. [ Yevamos 24b ]. But the dispute and the obstacles are more than enough — too severe to endure; and it is very difficult for any soul of Israel to draw close to the true tzadikim and their holy ways; because of the immensity of the force of the dispute and the obstacles beyond measure. And now what shall we do — our Father in Heaven; Master of all; full of mercy; Knower of hidden things; Watcher of secrets; Examiner of minds and hearts: have mercy upon us and upon all of Israel; and lighten the dispute and quiet the strife; and draw peace in the world. For in these difficult times — even when there is peace at the time of great peace; the obstacles upon every single one are still immense beyond measure. And certainly throughout all the days of exile every single one needs to draw close to the truth through sufferings and obstacles — even if there is peace in the world. Have mercy upon us — full of mercy; and do: that we walk in Your statutes and observe Your judgments (and Your commandments) ; and reveal the truth in the world speedily. May all who come into the world know and recognize the wondrous and awesome light that You illuminate in the world through the true tzadikim of every generation — from the day of the giving of the Torah until (today) this generation. And in particular the light of truth of the true tzadikim of these generations — to whom we need to draw close and to walk in their ways in order to return to You and to know You in truth. Send Your light and Your truth — they shall lead me; they shall bring me to Your holy mountain and to Your dwelling places [ Psalms 43:3 ]. Teach me, Hashem , Your way; that I may walk in Your truth — unify my heart to fear Your Name [ Psalms 86:11 ]. For You are the true G‑d and Your word is true and enduring forever; and certainly You shall complete all as Your will desires. Have mercy upon Your people Israel — whom You have chosen; and hasten to reveal the truth — in order to rescue and to guard many many souls of Israel from what You need to rescue and to guard them; and in particular to guard them from the traps of the hunters: from the nets and snares that the heretics and the atheists have spread now over the youths of the children of Israel through their evil schools of education. Repay them as their deeds deserve and as the evil of their misdeeds — repay them according to the work of their hands; return their recompense to them. And rescue and guard the souls of Your people the House of Israel — that they not be captured in their net and their trap. Have mercy upon us through the merit of our holy fathers and masters; and reveal the truth in the world speedily — that all who come into the world merit to know the truth of the holy tzadikim ; and the loftiness of their degree and the greatness of their force — to return all who come into the world to You. Have mercy upon us for Your Name's sake; for the sake of Your abundant mercies; do for Your sake and not for ours — see our stand destitute and empty. Be appeased through mercies and be conciliated through supplications — be appeased and conciliated to a poor generation for there is no helper. See that the hand has dwindled and there is none shut up or let loose [ Deuteronomy 32:36 ]. Yet You have promised us: there is no orphaned generation [ ein dor yasom ]. And certainly even now there are tzadikim who illuminate the earth and its inhabitants; who have the power to return all of (Israel) the world to You. But through our many iniquities they have been hidden from our eyes. Grant us merit through Your mercies — that we merit to overpower with all might to break all the obstacles; and to draw close to tzadikim and to truly G‑d-fearing ones; and to all their followers. And may we merit to draw and to draw from the springs of their wisdom; and to receive the depth of their holy and true counsels; in such a manner that we merit to draw close to You in truth from now and forever. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer [ Psalms 19:15 ]. He Who makes peace in His heights — through His mercies may He make peace upon us and upon all of Israel; and say: Amen. Full of mercy — Joy of Israel: give joy in my heart; and in particular on the holy and very awesome festival days — let us exult and rejoice in You. And have mercy upon me and forgive me and pardon me and atone for me for all the blemishes I blemished in the joy of Yom Tov from my very beginning until this very day. And be in my help and save me to repair everything in perfection — that I merit to clarify and to raise up all the fallen joys [ simachos ha'nefolos ] to their place and to their root: to the place where their tent was at the beginning. And accustom me through Your mercies in all the ways of joy; in such a manner that I merit to always be in joy — and in particular on Shabbosos and festivals: Let us exult and rejoice in Your salvation . I shall exult and rejoice in You — I shall sing to Your Name, Most High [ Psalms 9:3 ]. Gladden the soul of Your servant — for to You, Hashem , I lift my soul [ Psalms 86:4 ]. Make known to me the path of life — the fullness of joys before Your face; pleasantness at Your right hand forever [ Psalms 16:11 ]. Make me hear joy and gladness — may the bones that You have crushed rejoice [ Psalms 51:10 ]. Satisfy us from Your goodness; and gladden our souls in Your salvation; and purify our heart to serve You in truth; and cause us to inherit, Hashem our G‑d, in joy and in exultation Your holy festival seasons. And may Israel — the sanctifiers of Your Name — rejoice in You. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer [ Psalms 19:15 ]. Amen and Amen. Full of mercy — Joy of Israel: give joy in my heart — and in particular on the holy and awesome festival days [ yamim tovim kedoshim v'nora'im ]; on which we shall exult and rejoice before You; and may all who sanctify Your Name in Israel merit to always be in true and complete joy before You. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer. Amen and Amen. Master of the Universe — have mercy upon me and rescue me from quarrel and dispute; for You know my heart — that in truth I desire no dispute at all; for who am I that I should have dispute with any person in the world — for all of them are better than I beyond measure. Yet You know the immensity of the dispute that has proliferated in the world; until even one who truly desires peace — they dispute against him; as it is written: I am peace — but when I speak; they are for war [ Psalms 120:7 ]. And You know what the dispute causes through our many iniquities — for even apart from this it is very difficult to bring forth the speech of the prayer; and in addition to this — how much the dispute delays the words of the prayer. And now what shall we do — our Father in Heaven? How does one take the word to pray before You — since the dispute has so proliferated in the world; for all the world is full of dispute; and to those going out and those coming in there is no peace. Have mercy upon me — full of mercy: teach me and guide me at every time how to conduct myself with all the world; in such a manner that there be no dispute — only peace and true truth. Master of the Universe — Master of peace; King to Whom the peace belongs: do what You shall do through Your abundant mercies and Your awesome wonders; in such a manner that You nullify all manner of dispute from the world; and draw great and wondrous peace in the world — in such a manner that the speech may go out from the exile; and may You open our mouths always — that we merit to speak many good holy words before You in Torah and prayer day and night. O Lord — open my lips; and my mouth shall declare Your praise [ Psalms 51:17 ]. May my mouth be filled with Your praise — all the day Your glory [ Psalms 71:8 ]. The praise of Hashem my mouth shall speak — and may all flesh bless His holy Name forever and ever [ Psalms 145:21 ]. Have mercy upon me for Your Name's sake; and grant me merit from now — to guard the speech and the conversation; that I not speak any word or any conversation that is not as Your will desires, G‑d forbid. For You form mountains and create the wind; and tell man what is his speech [ Amos 4:13 ]; and even casual conversation between a man and his wife — You tell man at the time of judgment [ Chagigah 5b ]. Alas for us from the day of judgment; alas for us from the day of rebuke. Have mercy upon me from now for Your Name's sake; and guard me and save me from conversation and speech that is not as Your will desires. And forgive and pardon and atone for me for all the blemishes I blemished in the speech and the conversation from the day of my existence until now; and may You fill all the Names that I blemished in Your great Name. Place, Hashem , a guard for my mouth — keep watch over the door of my lips [ Psalms 141:3 ]. And be with my mouth at the time of my speech [ Exodus 4:12 ]; and with my hands at the time of my labor. Guard my soul and save me — let me not be put to shame for I have taken refuge in You [ Psalms 25:20 ]. And help me and save me — that I merit to fulfill the commandment of: You shall love your neighbor as yourself [ Leviticus 19:18 ] — in truth with all my heart and soul and might; that I merit to love each and every one of Israel with my soul and my might and all my heart in truth. And in particular every single day before the prayer — may You grant me merit to accept upon myself this positive commandment; in truth and in perfection as Your good will desires; in such a manner that I merit through this to speak the words of prayer before You in perfection — with great concentration in truth. And may my prayer be a pleasure and acceptance before the Throne of Your glory; and may it ascend and be lifted to be a crown for Your head. And may the verse speedily be fulfilled: Inquire of the peace of Jerusalem — may those who love you be at ease. May there be peace within your ramparts — tranquility within your palaces. For the sake of my brothers and my friends — I shall speak peace within you. For the sake of the House of Hashem our G‑d — I shall seek good for you [ Psalms 122:6–9 ]. Great peace to the lovers of Your Torah — and there is no stumbling for them [ Psalms 119:165 ]. And all your children shall be disciples of Hashem — and great shall be the peace of your children [ Isaiah 54:13 ]. And may they see children's children — peace upon Israel [ Psalms 128:6 ]. Hashem will give strength to His people — Hashem will bless His people with peace [ Psalms 29:11 ]. He Who makes peace in His heights — may He make peace upon us and upon all of Israel; and say: Amen. And have mercy upon us and teach us the true path of how to lament and to mourn the destruction of the Beis Ha'Mikdash at every time; and in particular every single night at the actual midnight [ chatzos ]; and in the days of between the straits [ bein ha'metzarim ]; and in particular on Tisha b'Av — to say Eichah and Kinos with a broken and crushed heart in truth and to its very truth; and to pour out our hearts like water before the face of Hashem ; to put our mouth in the dust — perhaps there is hope [ Lamentations 3:29 ]; to dash our heads against the walls of our homes because of the immensity of the multitude of our troubles in general and in particular. For this how many years — our city has been destroyed and our Beis Ha'Mikdash has been desolated and the honor has been taken from the house of our lives; and every single day its trouble is more than its fellow. And in particular now — for harsh and strange decrees have gone out against Israel that cannot be endured; and our lives hang in the balance from the fear in our hearts — from the other harsh decrees that have been heard; that they seek to decree, G‑d forbid — G‑d save us. Alas what has happened to us. Full of mercy — help us that we feel the troubles of Israel and the troubles of our own souls in our heart well; until we merit to break our heart before You in truth; and to pour out our heart like water before Your face — Hashem of hosts — in truth: concerning the greatness of our transgressions and the multitude of our iniquities and the immensity of our stubbornness; which have lengthened our exile and caused us all our troubles. Let us lift our heart with our hands toward the G‑d in the heavens [ Lamentations 3:41 ]. May we grasp the faith of our holy fathers — to cry out and to call out with a great and bitter cry. May we wander through the markets and the streets and pray and entreat and cry out and supplicate to Hashem G‑d Most High; until Hashem looks down and sees from the Heavens; until You arouse Your mercies upon us; and comfort us speedily and redeem us and ransom us from all the sufferings and all the troubles — in general and in particular. And may You illuminate upon us even now a wondrous illumination from our righteous Mashiach; in such a manner that he sweetens even now all the judgments from upon us — in general and in particular; and nullifies all the troubles and all the sufferings and all the decrees that are not good from upon us and from all of Israel; and may he illuminate upon us the light of truth at every time; and may he repair us always with new and wondrous repairs. And may he make known and clarify for us all the doubts and all the difficult questions [ ibba'ayos ] and all the divisions of counsel. And may we always merit to complete counsel in truth and to its very truth; in such a manner that we merit to return to You speedily in truth and with a whole heart; and to engage in Torah and prayer and commandments and good deeds all the days of our lives. And may You guard us and save us always from all manner of sins and iniquities and transgressions of the world; and may we not deviate from Your will right or left. And may Your mercies be aroused toward Your children; and may You bring us our righteous Mashiach speedily; and may he redeem us with a complete redemption — an eternal redemption. And then may he repair for us the aspect of teiku [ the unresolved question ] in the ultimate repair — in ultimate perfection; and may the letter Nun be drawn from the Kinos [lamentations] to teiku and from teiku may tikkun [repair] be made. And may all the Kinos be nullified from the world — and may the Kinos be transformed into tikkun. Full of mercy — Master of salvations; Master of consolations: console us please from all our troubles; and help us in all our matters and our desires; and spread over us the Sukkah of Your peace; and set us right through good counsel from before You; and save us speedily for Your Name's sake. Grant us merit to the truth and to its very truth; rescue me and all of Israel from doubts and division of counsel that prevent and confuse greatly from Your service. Grant us merit to complete and true counsel at every time; in such a manner that I merit to return to You in truth and to be as Your good will desires from now and forever. Amen Selah. Singular One Who watches over and directs the world with lovingkindness and great mercy: all that You do with us — in general and in particular — is all for good. And even all the exiles and the troubles and all the adventures that pass over us — in the general collective of Israel and in particular upon each and every individual — it is all for great good; for Your holy intent is always for good. But through our many iniquities — because of the immensity of the darkness of the exile; in which we dwell among the nations: our mind has become confused and muddled; until we have no knowledge to understand and to know that all that befalls us is all directed by Your specific providence [ hashgachah peratis ] from You — for our good. And because of this we feel greatly the pain and the hurt — the immensity of the multitude of our troubles and our exile. And what shall we do — Master of all worlds — for one depends upon the other: for the exile causes the withdrawal of the da'as ; and the withdrawal of the da'as causes the exile. For the main exile and the main troubles and the distress that one feels the bitterness of the exile — it is all because of the withdrawal of the da'as : that we do not understand and do not know that everything is by Your providence alone — for our eternal good; to end wickedness and to finish sin and to bring everlasting righteousness [ Daniel 9:24 ]. For had we been complete in our da'as — always knowing with complete knowledge that everything is by Your providence from You — we would not feel the grief of the exile at all; and then we would have returned to You and hastened to go out to freedom from the exile. But because of the darkness of the exile — some among the children of Your people Israel were caught; and it seemed to them as if there were nature, G‑d forbid; and they attached themselves to the nature. And because of this they felt the bitterness of the exile; and through this the exile has lengthened so greatly. And now what shall we do — our Father in Heaven? For the exile has lengthened upon us and the servitude has greatly prolonged; each day we say: what shall be our end; and until when; and until when — what is the end of the wonders [ Daniel 12:6 ]. When will You reign in Zion? When will the kingdom return to the house of David? When will You return Israel to You? When will You return to our Land and to our Beis Ha'Mikdash? How long is crying in Zion and lamentation in Jerusalem? When will You have mercy upon all the troubles of our soul and our bitterness? (And in particular now in this harsh and bitter time of distress that has been decreed upon us — that a Jewish man shall go to war: alas — who can arise in this? Who can describe this bitter trouble; for it is evil and bitter; for it touches the very soul.) Master of the Universe — Master of the Universe: You are the help of our fathers from eternity; their shield and their savior — and of their children after them in every generation. And so too we trust in You — that You are our life and all our hope and all our support in all the troubles and sufferings that pass over us — G‑d have mercy — from now. Full of mercy — look at our affliction; for our pains have multiplied and the troubles of our heart. Look and see to whom You have done thus. Look and see that there is no power or knowledge in us — even to properly arrange our prayers before You as is fitting; for we are destitute and empty; destitute of knowledge and good deeds; and filled with sin and iniquity. (Yet even so — we are prepared to die and to be killed for the sanctification of Your Name each day; and not to cause one of Israel to abandon the law of our holy Torah; alas for eyes that shall see that someone from Israel has his beard and sidelocks shaved by force; and afterward he himself is compelled to shave them at every time; alas for a mouth that shall be compelled to eat forbidden foods; alas for the holy feet of Israel that shall be compelled to walk on Shabbos and holy Yom Tov outside the boundary; alas for the holy hands of Israel that shall be compelled to do work on Shabbos — to polish their weapons, G‑d forbid; and other labors and other transgressions that they will be compelled to do, G‑d forbid; and who knows whether they will be able to withstand the test — to remain within the holy faith which is the faith of Israel; and to fulfill in any case what they are able to fulfill; alas — who can withstand this; alas upon our souls; alas upon these our days and years; alas for us for we have been robbed; alas, alas, alas — let us dash our head against the walls of our house; and sackcloth and ashes shall be spread for the many; let us place our mouth in the dust — perhaps there is hope; perhaps there is hope.) Master of the Universe — Master of the Universe: full of mercy — remember Your mercies, Hashem , and Your lovingkindnesses — for they are from the world [ Psalms 25:6 ]. Remember all the lovingkindnesses that You have done with Israel from the beginning of creation until now; and do not decree upon us any harsh and bitter decree. (And in particular the great trouble that has been decreed — to conscript the sons of Israel as soldiers for their wars — G‑d forbid.) Have mercy — have mercy upon Your people Israel and nullify the evil decrees speedily from upon us; for You are greatly powerful to save; and there is no restraint before Hashem to save through many or through few [ I Samuel 14:6 ]. And may the heart of the king be raised — and the ministers and counselors — over us for good; and may You decree upon us good decrees in material and spiritual matters. Master of the Universe — King Who rules and governs and oversees: see Your people Israel — very greatly afflicted. You alone know the situation and the state of Israel at this time. Look from the heavens and see that we have become a mockery and a scorn among the nations — for they have conspired their heart together against You and make a covenant [ Psalms 83:6 ]; for the whole inner intent of all their evil decrees — G‑d save us — is all in order to distance Israel, G‑d forbid, from the law of our holy Torah; as You know the hidden plans of their hearts. You alone know how far their thoughts and their evil counsels reach. O G‑d — do not keep silence; do not be still and do not be quiet, O G‑d. For behold Your enemies stir up tumult — and those who hate You have lifted their head. Against Your people they devise a secret plot — and they counsel against Your hidden ones. They said: come and let us cut them off from being a nation — and may the name of Israel be remembered no more [ Psalms 83:2–5 ]. Full of mercy — great in counsel and mighty in deed [ Jeremiah 32:19 ]: foil now the counsel of our enemies; and may their hands not succeed; as it is written: He foils the devices of the crafty — and their hands do not achieve success [ Job 5:12 ]. And it is written: Hashem has foiled the counsel of nations — He has frustrated the devices of peoples [ Psalms 33:10 ]. Fill their faces with shame — and may they seek Your Name, Hashem [ Psalms 83:17 ]. And all those who rise against us for evil — speedily foil their counsel and ruin their scheme. And give in our hearts wisdom and understanding and knowledge — that we merit to always believe in specific providence [ hashgachah peratis ]; that everything is conducted by Your providence alone. And may we merit to pray and to supplicate before You always; and may we join ourselves in the troubles of Israel; and pray and entreat greatly always — every single day concerning the troubles of Israel; with a broken and crushed heart. And may we pour out our heart like water before Your face — Hashem ; until we bring down many tears before You in truth. Through weeping and through supplications shall I come before You [ Jeremiah 31:9 ]. And may we merit to draw upon us through the tears Your providence; and through this may You have mercy upon us from the Heavens; and oversee us with mercy; and nullify from us all the troubles and all the decrees — both those that have already been decreed upon us; and those that they desire to decree, G‑d forbid. May this not be so in Israel. Have mercy upon us for Your Name's sake — for we have no one to lean upon except upon You our Father in Heaven. Do with us what is good in Your eyes; and we know not what to do — but our eyes are upon You [ II Chronicles 20:12 ]. And may You put into our heart that we all return to You in truth — quickly and swiftly. Create for me a pure heart O G‑d — and renew a correct spirit within me [ Psalms 51:12 ]. And may You hasten and speed to redeem us — with a complete redemption; and bring us our righteous Mashiach speedily in our days. Amen Selah. Master of the Universe, Master of the Universe — act for Your Name's sake and not for ours; see our stand destitute and empty. Have pity for the honor of Your Name. Look from the heavens and see that we have become a mockery and a scorn among the nations — for the nations mock us every day and say at every time: where is your G‑d? Through murder in my bones my adversaries have taunted me — in saying to me all day long: where is your G‑d? [ Psalms 42:11 ]. Hashem — full of mercy: have mercy upon us and receive our supplications. Answer us Hashem — answer us; for we are in great distress — great distress of which there has never been the like and shall not be again. Have mercy upon us for Your Name's sake — for there is no power in us to appease You; rather in Your Name have we come to You. We have come for Your Name's sake: Act for Your Name's sake, Hashem . Save us O G‑d of our salvation and gather us and rescue us from the nations — to give thanks to Your holy Name; to praise in Your splendor [ I Chronicles 16:35 ]. Help us O G‑d of our salvation — for the sake of the honor of Your Name; and rescue us and atone for our sins — for the sake of Your Name [ Psalms 79:9 ]. Be gracious to us and answer us and hear our prayer; for You hear the prayer of every mouth of Your people Israel with mercy. Blessed are You — Who hears prayer.

One thing have I asked of Hashem — that shall I seek: to dwell in the house of Hashem all the days of my life — to behold the pleasantness of Hashem and to visit in His Temple. For He will shelter me in His Sukkah on the day of trouble — He will hide me in the shelter of His tent; upon a rock He shall raise me [ Psalms 27:4–5 ]. Master of the Universe — have mercy upon me through Your immense mercies and Your abundant and great lovingkindnesses; and grant me merit to fulfill the commandment of Sukkah in its time — as is fitting; in all its particulars and details and its intentions and the 613 commandments dependent upon it; and with a good heart and great joy. And may I merit that there be drawn toward me the holy minds [ mochin kedoshim ] and the great and wondrous lovingkindnesses [ chasadim ] that are drawn upon Your people Israel during the days of the holy festival of Sukkos — through the holy and very awesome commandment of Sukkah ; when the Imma [the supernal Mother] hovers over her children [ Imma mesakkechet al baneha ]; and You spread the Sukkah of mercy and life and peace over us. Full of mercy; full of mercy: have mercy upon me for Your Name's sake. You know my heart — how very far I am from the commandment of Sukkah ; and how many supplications and requests and urgings beyond measure I need to pray and to supplicate before You — that You grant me merit to such holy minds; to such lovingkindnesses; in such a manner that I merit to true knowledge [ da'as amiti ] — the knowledge of a human being [ da'as shel adam ]; in such a manner that I speedily merit to go out from the animal level to the human level [ min behemah l'adam ]; that I have pity upon myself from now and not do any more deeds of an animal; rather may I speedily merit to true knowledge — which is the boundary of humanity. And may I merit to draw sustenance from the abundance of the human [ shefa shel adam ]; and not draw sustenance any further from the abundance of the animal [ shefa shel behemah ]; and may I go out and rise speedily from the animal level to the human level. Master of the Universe, Master of the Universe — good and beneficent to all and His mercies are over all His works: have pity and compassion and mercy upon the animals and the beasts; and grant merit to me and to all of Your people the House of Israel — that we not blemish the commandment of Sukkah at all; in such a manner that our sustenance shall always be from the abundance of the human that is drawn from the aspect of Sukkah ; and we shall not need to draw sustenance, G‑d forbid, from the abundance of the animals; and may we not extract for ourselves their abundance, G‑d forbid — in order not to cause, G‑d forbid, the untimely death of animals and beasts. And may the verse be fulfilled: Man and beast You save, Hashem [ Psalms 36:7 ]. And it is said: Blessed is the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your land — and the fruit of your animals: the firstlings of your cattle and the flocks of your sheep [ Deuteronomy 28:4 ]. And so may it be Your will — full of mercy and lovingkindnesses: that You cause to flow upon us true and complete knowledge through the holy commandment of Sukkah ; in such a manner that we — and all Your people the House of Israel who need to build a house — may merit that the building not harm us at all; and may there reach us no danger whatsoever in body or soul or money through the building of our home. Rather on the contrary — may each and every one merit to build a home in great holiness and purity; in wisdom and understanding and holy knowledge. And may the verse be fulfilled: Through wisdom a house is built — and through understanding it is established. And through knowledge its rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant wealth [ Proverbs 24:3–4 ]. And may our home be built for the Name of Hashem — to engage in it in Torah and prayer; and to receive in it fitting guests; until our home shall be a house of Torah and prayer; a meeting place for the wise; and there the Name of Hashem G‑d of the world shall be called. And so may You grant us merit through the holy commandment of Sukkah — to rejoice with great joy at Simchas Torah : to complete the Torah and to begin it with great joy and exultation. Let us exult and rejoice in this Torah — for it is for us strength and light. And be in our help each and every year — to fulfill the commandment of Sukkah in such great perfection; until we merit to receive the Torah anew from there each and every year. For from Sukkah goes forth the Torah; until through our entering the Sukkah we merit that from us ourselves Torah shall be made — that each one of Israel shall have Torah made from him; Oraisa v'Yisrael v'Kudsha Brich Hu kola chad [Torah and Israel and the Holy One Blessed be He are all one]. And may there be drawn upon us through the holy commandment of Sukkah : the holiness of the festival of Shavuos; the holiness of the month of Sivan; the holiness of the receiving of the Torah. Master of the Universe: our needs are very many without measure; and our mind is too short to explain or expound even one thousandth of them. And You know all. Therefore I beseech and beg before You: have mercy upon us; and arrange all the causes for good — in such a manner that the building shall be only for good in all aspects — for us and for our children and for all who come forth from our loins. Full of mercy — You alone know all that is done in the matter of building; and how many dangers there are in them. But You know — how many are compelled to build their home; for it is impossible to dwell outside; and in particular a Jewish man who needs a home for his service: to receive in it Shabbos and Yom Tov; and to welcome guests; and to raise his children in it for Torah study; and what shall flesh-and-blood do — formed of clay and devoid of knowledge; and in particular such as I today: to intend Your will in truth in this matter and in all matters? Have mercy upon us for Your Name's sake; and grant us merit to always conduct ourselves as Your will desires in truth. Hashem shall complete it on my behalf — Hashem : Your lovingkindness is forever; do not forsake the works of Your hands [ Psalms 138:8 ]. And may the verse be fulfilled in us: Hashem shall guard you from all evil — He shall guard your soul. Hashem shall guard your going out and your coming in — from now and forever [ Psalms 121:7–8 ]. And may You hasten and speed to redeem us; and may You build our Beis Ha'Mikdash and our glory. And may the verse be fulfilled in us: And I shall bring them to My holy mountain and gladden them in My house of prayer — their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon My altar; for My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the peoples [ Isaiah 56:7 ]. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer [ Psalms 19:15 ]. Look upon me and answer me, Hashem my G‑d; illuminate my eyes lest I sleep the sleep of death [ Psalms 13:4 ]. I shall not die but live — and recount the deeds of G‑d [ Psalms 118:17 ]. Master of the Universe — look upon me and have mercy upon me; and give me life and sustain me; for You know all my needs. What shall I say and what shall I speak; and what shall I do when G‑d arises — and when He makes a reckoning: what shall I answer Him [ Job 31:14 ]. And therefore may it be Your will — Hashem our G‑d and G‑d of our fathers; full of mercy: that You be with me in my help and save me — that I merit to skip past [ dilog ] and to leap over all the obstacles and to be with You always; and may no obstacle or hindrance or confusion from the material matters of this world prevent me from Your service at all. And may I merit always to be attached and bound to You; and to pray and to speak before You; until I am included within all the souls of the holy ones of the children of Israel Your people; and I merit to behold the pleasantness of Hashem and to visit in His Sanctuary [ Psalms 27:4 ]. Master of the Universe — Master of the Universe: have mercy upon me for Your Name's sake. Full of mercy — Knower of hidden things: You know all that has passed over me; and You know all the treasury of the King [ ginzaya d'malka ] that is within me; and You know all the sparks of holiness [ nitztozos dikdushah ] that are scattered in me and around me; and how they await my searching after them. And therefore have mercy upon me and help me always to search and to seek after all of them; until I merit to gather them all in; and may I not enter before You in shame [ v'lo ei'ul b'kissufa kamakh ]. Full of mercy: I have asked too much — but from You nothing is too hard and nothing is beyond You [ Jeremiah 32:17 ]. And I believe in Your great and immeasurable wonders; and I trust in You that You will save me from all that I need to be saved from; and I merit to see the goodness of Hashem in the land of the living [ Psalms 27:13 ]. Make known to me the path of life — fullness of joy in Your presence; pleasantness at Your right hand forever. Amen and Amen. From the straits I called upon G‑d — He answered me with expansiveness. In my distress I call upon Hashem and to my G‑d I cry out — He hears my voice from His Sanctuary [ Psalms 118:5; 18:7 ]. Master of the Universe — full of mercy: have mercy upon me; and answer me and save me from all my troubles and from all the straits and narrows and hardships that press upon me; and bring me out to wide open spaces always; until I always merit to call out to You from a place of expansiveness; and to serve You with joy and with a good heart. And help me and save me and grant me merit: that I always merit to pray before You with all the depth and intensity and earnestness of my heart; and that my prayers always go up before You with great power and with holy fire; and that my prayers always find favor and acceptance before You; and that no obstruction or barrier ever stand before my prayer at all. And help me always to pour out my heart before You like water; and to speak abundantly before You always; without any shame and without any discouragement. For You know — faithful G‑d: that I have already spoken before You many times; and have poured out my heart before You; and have cried and wept before You; and still I have not attained what I need. And yet I do not despair at all of Your mercy. And therefore have mercy upon me and act with me in Your wondrous ways; and deal with me only according to the immensity of Your great mercy. And have mercy upon me and help me and save me from all enemies and adversaries — whether open or hidden; from all who seek my harm in any manner; and save me from all manner of slander and false accusations. And help me and save me that all my thoughts and speech and actions always be directed only to You and to Your service; and may no harmful thought or speech or action ever go forth from me at all. And may You make a sign of goodness for me; and may my enemies see it and be ashamed — for You, Hashem , have helped me and comforted me [ Psalms 86:17 ]. Blessed is Hashem forever — Amen and Amen. Incline my heart toward Your testimonies — and not to gain [ Psalms 119:36 ]. Master of the Universe — help me and save me and grant me merit: that I be cleaved to Your Torah and Your service always forever and ever. And may You set my portion among those who sit in the house of study [ yoshvei beis ha'midrash ] and not among those who sit at street corners; and may Your Torah be our craft [ umanuseinu ] in this world and be with us in the World to Come; and may I meditate in Your Torah day and night. And even in the time when it is necessary according to Your will — to engage in some business for livelihood; to do some work or commerce or to travel some journey or the like: have mercy upon me and save me — that even at the time of the performance of the commerce and the business; the innermost of my thought shall be bound and cleaved to You and to Your holy Torah — which is clothed within that business and the commerce; and may I not bring the innermost of my mind within the commerce and the secular business. Rather the outer part of my thought shall engage in the commerce; but in the innermost of the thought I shall be bound and cleaved to You and to Your holy Torah. And may I merit to conduct the commerce with great faith; and may my yes be righteousness; and I shall not change or alter my word ever — even for all the slain of the world. And may all my intent at the time of conducting the commerce be for Your Name's sake and for the sake of Your Torah; in order that I can engage in Torah and service and be generous in charity; and to fulfill Your holy commandments. And may You grant me merit to minimize commerce and to maximize engagement in Torah study for its own sake; and may my Torah be permanent [ keva ] and my work be temporary [ ara'i ]. And even at the time of performing the work and the commerce — may the main fixedness of my mind and the innermost of my thought be within the Torah and the service for Your Name's sake alone in truth and to its very truth. And be with me always — in my sitting in my home and in my walking on the road [ Deuteronomy 6:7 ]. And strengthen me in the faith and the trust — to know and to believe in truth: that a man does not overpower through his strength [ I Samuel 2:9 ]; for it is not from the east or from the west or from the wilderness and the mountains [ Psalms 75:7 ]; for everything is from You alone. Rather Your will is that we engage in some commerce for livelihood — in order to clarify and to raise up all the holinesses and the sparks [ nitzotzos ] that have fallen into the depths of the husks [ klippos ]; to lift them and to raise them up and to return them and to restore them to their place. And may the verse be fulfilled in me: Trust in Hashem and do good — dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. And take delight in Hashem — and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to Hashem and trust in Him — and He shall act [ Psalms 37:3–5 ]. Have mercy upon us — full of mercy; Who devises thoughts lest any outcast be expelled from Him [ II Samuel 14:14 ]: and give us power and might and counsel for battle; that at every time that we need to go out to engage in external labors — in commercial business and the like; may all our business and our activity be with great faith — in holiness and purity; in awe and fear and great cleaving to Your Torah and Your service — in the innermost of my thought; in such a manner that we have the power through the holy faith to clarify all the sparks that fell into the depths of the husks through our many iniquities and the iniquity of our fathers; in this incarnation and in other incarnations; whether unwittingly or deliberately; whether under compulsion or willingly. Have mercy upon us for Your Name's sake — for You know that there is no power or knowledge in us to fight this battle: to clarify and to bring out the sparks from under the hand of the husks that conquer and imprison them with great overpowering. And at every time when there is arousal to clarify them and to raise them up — they provoke and overpower more and more, G‑d forbid. And because of this our exile has lengthened and the servitude prolonged upon us — in general and in particular. And there is no one among us who knows any way how to overpower against them and how to fight with them. We have no one to lean upon except upon our Father in Heaven. Hashem is a man of war — Hashem is His Name [ Exodus 15:3 ]: He shall fight for us. Contend, Hashem , with those who contend with me — fight against those who fight against me. Take hold of shield and buckler — and arise to my help. And draw out the spear and the javelin against my pursuers — say to my soul: your salvation am I [ Psalms 35:1–3 ]. Save me — Master of salvations; that my thought shall always be cleaved to You and to Your Torah — even at the time of my engagement in external labors of work and commerce and the like; and may I strengthen and strengthen myself in complete faith — and in particular at the time of my going out from the tent of Torah to engage in secular business; may I then overpower and strengthen myself with greater and stronger faith. And You through Your mercies and Your great power — may You give power to the holy faith — to clarify and to gather and to raise up and to lift all the holinesses and all the fallen sparks that fell in all the things of the world; from the day of the creation of the world until this very day. And may You raise and lift them; and return them again and restore them to their place — to the place where their tent was at the beginning; with additional strength and additional might [ Genesis 49:3 ]. And may no outcast be expelled from You [ II Samuel 14:14 ]. Grant us merit through Your abundant mercies to engage in commerce with faith; and may the innermost of our thought be bound and connected to the Torah even at the time of conducting the commerce. And through this may we merit that You save us and guard us — that we never need to come to the degradation of the court of law; that we never need to come (before) the judges to be judged before them by Torah law. Rather may all our commerce and trade be in faith; and all who we engage with in commerce — may they deal with us in faith and in truth. And may we know and understand and believe that within all commerce Torah is clothed; and may the commerce be always connected to the Torah; in such a manner that we shall not need to repair the commerce through Torah law before the judges. Master of the Universe: fulfill our requests for good with mercy; and help us and grant us merit to conquer the battle in this world — through the merit of the true tzadikim ; and may we not stumble and fall at all through this battle. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer. Amen and Amen. Turn to me and be gracious to me — for I am alone and poor [ Psalms 25:16 ]. I keep vigil and have become like a lone bird upon a rooftop [ Psalms 102:8 ]. Master of the Universe — what shall I say; what shall I speak? Look to my right and see — and there is none who knows me; my escape has perished from me; there is none who seeks my soul [ Psalms 142:5 ]. I cried out to You, Hashem ; I said: You are my refuge — my portion in the land of the living. Listen to my cry — for I am brought very low; rescue me from my pursuers — for they have overpowered me [ Psalms 142:6–7 ]. Master of the Universe — Knower of hidden things; the very essence of truth and Who desires truth; close to those who call upon Him in truth: You alone know all the deeds that are done with me every single day; who and who stand against me every day in material and spiritual matters — to prevent and to delay me, G‑d forbid, from the path of life. Hashem — how many are my adversaries; many rise against me [ Psalms 3:2 ]. You know in how many kinds of obstacles and delays and enticements and temptations and confusions that overpower against me at every time — to prevent me, G‑d forbid, from the path of truth; from drawing close to You and to those who fear You and to the true tzadikim . And through the immensity of my lowliness and the multitude of my iniquities; and the immensity of my scattered soul and the confusion of my mind that I have from myself; they yet overpower and provoke against me at every time — the obstacles and the delays from all the people of the world: whether the obstacles from the household and the close ones; whether the obstacles from other people of the world; from the multitude of divisions of opinion and the dispute of the world over the point of true truth. And now — Hashem G‑d of truth: help me and save me and strengthen me and embolden me in Your service in truth; and grant me merit to draw close to those who fear You and to Your wholehearted ones who walk in Your ways in truth. And may no person in the world have the power to prevent me from the path of truth in any manner whatsoever; whoever it may be — whether close or distant. And may You strengthen my mind in Your faith always; and may I resemble in my own eyes as if I am alone in the world — as it is said: One was Avraham [ Ezekiel 33:24 ]. And may I not hear at all and not look at any obstacle or delay or mocker or scoffer or confuser of the world; and may no person be able to confuse me from the path of truth and the straight path — even those greater than me and tzadikim according to me. Rather may I merit to conduct myself in the path of truth according to what You taught me from my youth — through our holy true masters. And may I be accustomed to say in my soul: I know not at all what is happening in the world with each and every one — rather I in my wholesomeness shall walk in the path of truth according to my level; as You taught me through the chosen of Your true tzadikim — who are the point of truth in all the worlds. And I shall not look at any opinion or will that is against their will — which is Your will in truth. And even when it is necessary to gather with people and to speak with them — whether in matters of Heaven or in matters of the world: even so may this not confuse my mind from the truth and to its very truth at all. And may I merit to truly fulfill the verse: Whom have I in heaven — and with You I desire nothing on earth [ Psalms 73:25 ]. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer [ Psalms 19:15 ]. Chazak. Full of mercy — have mercy upon me and receive my supplications; for I have come before You not through merit and not through deeds. For in truth I now have no opening whatsoever to request even the most minor of minor things — and all the more so for great things such as these. Yet it is revealed and known before You — Knower of hidden things: that I am compelled and obligated to say all this — according to all that I heard from our holy masters of blessed memory; for Your lovingkindnesses are not exhausted and Your mercies never cease forever. And so have mercy upon me — full of mercy; such that even at the time when I merit through Your mercies to renew true novellae in Your holy Torah — may I not err in my own mind to say that I have already reached its depth and have already entered its innermost chambers. Rather may I always merit to understand and to know how very far I am from the true innermost parts of it; for higher above higher watches [ Ecclesiastes 5:7 ] etc.; and there are faces within faces. And as it is written: To every end I have seen a limit — but Your commandment is exceedingly broad [ Psalms 119:96 ]. And just as Your greatness has no end — so too there is no end to the understanding of the Torah which is Your unity; and even when I merit to true attainments — may You strengthen me to strive and to dig deeper and to toil and to seek and to search more and more — to refine and to sharpen; and to study with a true eye in Your holy Torah with all heart and soul with self-sacrifice in truth. Until You open for me at every time its gates and the innermost of its chambers more and more — to understand and to comprehend and to attain the truth of the innermost of the Torah; which is in the aspect of the holy adam [humanity]; as it is written: This is the Torah — a human being [ adam ] [ Numbers 19:14 ]. Until the divine image shall be drawn upon me in perfection; and I shall be included in the supernal adam in ultimate perfection in truth; until I merit to know and to attain You in truth as Your good will desires and as the will of Your true tzadikim . For this was I created. Have mercy upon me — full of mercy; and return me in complete repentance before You speedily; and give me my portion in Your Torah; for I come not upon my righteousness but upon Your abundant mercies; through the power and merit of the great true tzadikim — our holy masters; may their merit protect us. For their power suffices even for me — as I am; as I am: to take me out and to purify me from all my impurities speedily, speedily; and to grant me merit in my lifetime to all that I have requested from before You — full of mercy. And I shall always hope; and I added upon all Your praise [ Psalms 71:14 ]. May my lips pour forth praise — when You teach me Your statutes [ Psalms 119:171 ]. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer [ Psalms 19:15 ]. Amen. And help me through Your mercies — that my thought be always attached to Your Torah with a strong and firm bond; in such a manner that even when I engage with matters of this world — my thought still not be disconnected from Your Torah at all; until Your Torah is literally called by my name [ nit'krei Torati mamash ]. And may the verse be fulfilled in me: But rather his desire is in the Torah of Hashem — and in His Torah he meditates day and night [ Psalms 1:2 ]. Guardian of Israel — guard the remnant of Israel; and may no illness or pain or ache come upon Your people Israel. Full of mercy — have mercy upon us and upon all of Israel; and guard us and save us at every time — that we eat no more than is absolutely necessary at all. Rather may we merit that our eating and our drinking be in measure and in weight and in dimension; that we eat no excessive eating whatsoever — which is in the aspect of the food of an animal [ ma'achal behemah ]. And likewise may You save us and guard us — that there not come into our mouth any food that has not yet been clarified from animal food to human food. Have pity upon us according to the multitude of Your mercies; and be in our help; and guard us at every time — that our eating be only human food [ ma'achal adam ] alone; and no animal food at all. And through this may we merit that You guard us and save us from all manner of illnesses; and in particular from the illness of fever [ choli ha'kaddachas ] — G‑d save us: which comes through eating excessive eating, G‑d forbid; which is in the aspect of animal food. Or through eating food that has not yet been clarified into human food — which is also the aspect of animal food. Have mercy — full of mercy; for You know how many blemishes and stumbling blocks come through excess eating and drinking; and how many illnesses come through this — G‑d save us; and in particular the illness of fever that has spread greatly now: may Hashem guard us from now. Have mercy upon all of Israel and upon me; and guard me always — that I be careful from now; and guard my soul — from eating any excessive eating at all. And You shall protect us and guard us through Your mercies; that there come into our mouth no food that has not been clarified into human food; in such a manner that You save me and all of Your people Israel — from all manner of illnesses and from all manner of blows and pains and aches; and in particular from the illness of fever. And have mercy upon all of Israel — upon all those upon whom the illness of fever has already arrived — G‑d save us (and in particular upon so-and-so son/daughter of so-and-so): and send them speedily a complete healing from Heaven — healing of the soul and healing of the body — among the other sick of Israel. And through Your abundant mercies — may You send upon them good sweat from the heavens [ zei'ah tovah min ha'shamayim ]; and through this may their minds become settled; and may the lovingkindnesses and the severities — which are the power of the fire and the water within them — be blended in equal balance; and may one not overpower the other at all. In such a manner that You save them and all of Israel from the excessive coldness and heat and the shaking of the limbs of the illness of fever — G‑d save them. And may they all merit a complete healing; and may their minds become settled in perfection in truth. And may we all — Your people the House of Israel — merit to engage in Your Torah and Your service in truth always; with a whole mind all the days of our lives; until we merit to know You in truth and to serve You with a whole heart and with settled mind; in holiness and in purity from now and forever. Guardian of His people Israel forever — guard us always from every evil matter in material and spiritual terms. And may the verse be fulfilled in me: Hashem shall guard your going out and your coming in — from now and forever [ Psalms 121:8 ]. Amen. Exalted and holy; Who performs mighty deeds; Who makes new things; Master of wars; Who sows righteousnesses; Who causes salvations to sprout; Who does righteous deeds with all flesh and spirit: do righteousness and lovingkindness with me; and grant me merit to give much charity to worthy poor people; in such a manner that I have a great repair for the blemish of the Bris that I blemished against You beyond measure. Master of the Universe: You know how very greatly I have distanced the abundance from holiness through the blemish of the Bris ; and drawn it to the place I drew it — G‑d save us; to places that should not be mentioned; and I blemished as I blemished in a way that cannot be measured; for the repair for this is charity to worthy poor people specifically — through which the abundance returns and is drawn back to holiness. But how does one merit to this — for the obstacles to the commandment of charity are very many: whether from the evil of our heart and the deficiency of the trust and the faith; and also when we overpower and break the cruelty of the heart and give charity — there is no one among us who knows to any degree who is the truly worthy poor person — through whom we shall merit to draw the abundance back to holiness and to repair the blemish of the Bris through this. Therefore I have come before You — Master of mercies; Master of righteousness and lovingkindness; Who devises thoughts lest any outcast be expelled from Him; Who is engaged in my repair at every time: that You have pity and compassion upon me; and grant me merit through Your abundant mercies — to give much charity to worthy poor people; truly upright poor people in truth — who engage in Torah and the service of Hashem in truth. And may You guard me and save me — from giving charity to unworthy poor people. May You alone guard me through Your mercies — from stumbling upon them, G‑d forbid; for it is revealed and known before You that there is no knowledge in us to guard against them; but You alone know the heart of all people and understand all their deeds. You know the secrets of the world and the hidden things of the secrets of all the living. Have pity and compassion upon me; and deal with me according to the greatness of Your immense wondrous lovingkindnesses. And arrange [ t'sabev ] circumstances for good at every time; in such a manner that You arrange for me worthy poor people in truth — that I merit to receive them as worthy. And help and strengthen my heart to give them much charity with a good heart and a pleasant countenance. And may I merit to add at every time — to be even more generous in charity and lovingkindness; and to go and gather donations from Your people Israel — to support poor people who engage in Torah and prayer in truth. For You have already made known to us that no person of Israel is exempt from the commandment of charity — even the poorest person in Israel [ Gittin 7a ]. But You know the hardness of our hearts; and how the preventers and confusions overpower even the very wealthy — from giving charity; until they leave this world and take nothing in their hands. And all the more so those of lesser means whose livelihood is tight; for the obstacles and the confusions to the commandment of charity are very great; and in particular to merit worthy poor people. Therefore we have no one to lean upon except upon You our Father in Heaven; through the merit and power of the true tzadikim upon whom we lean in every matter. I have spread out my palms to You; my eyes are suspended to You alone; for You alone know how many and many repairs I need for the repair of the Bris that I greatly blemished; and I am very far from all of them. Yet upon Your abundant mercies do I trust; and upon Your lovingkindness do I lean — that You shall arrange circumstances for good through Your mercies; and grant me merit to repair myself through all the repairs; and save me to give much charity to worthy poor people; and to engage in righteous deeds; to arouse the heart of our brethren the children of Israel — to receive from them much charity at every time; to support the truly G‑d-fearing ones; in such a manner that I merit to the repair of the Bris in perfection in truth; and may I not enter in shame before You [ v'la ei'ul b'kissufa kamach ]. Hashem shall complete it on my behalf — Hashem : Your lovingkindness is forever; do not forsake the works of Your hands [ Psalms 138:8 ]. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You — Hashem , my Rock and my Redeemer [ Psalms 19:15 ]. Amen.
