משיבת נפש - Meshivas Nefesh
אַף עַל פִּי שֶׁכָּל הָרוֹצֶה לָגֶשֶׁת אֶל הַקּדֶשׁ מֻכְרָח לְעוֹרֵר מַטֵּה עז שֶׁל עֲבוֹדָתוֹ, הַיְנוּ הַכּחַ וּזְכוּת שֶׁל נְקֻדּוֹתָיו הַטּוֹבִים בִּפְרָט הַכּחַ וּזְכוּת שֶׁל צַדִּיקֵי אֱמֶת הַחוֹסֶה בָּהֶם, אֵין זֶה רַק בִּשְׁבִיל לְהַכְנִיעַ הָרָע שֶׁבּוֹ, הַיְנוּ מֵחֲמַת שֶׁהַבַּעַל דָּבָר בָּא לְבַלְבֵּל אוֹתוֹ גַּם מְמַעֵט עֲבוֹדָתוֹ וּלְהַחֲלִישׁ דַּעְתּוֹ מֵרִבּוּי קִלְקוּלָיו וּפְגָמָיו הַמְרֻבִּים, עַל כֵּן מֻכְרָח לְחַפֵּשׂ בְּעַצְמוֹ אֵיזֶה נְקֻדּוֹת טוֹבוֹת בִּכְדֵי לְהַחֲיוֹת וּלְחַזֵּק אֶת עַצְמוֹ, בִּבְחִינוֹת וְעוֹד מְעַט וְאֵין רָשָׁע וְכוּ, כַּמְבאָר בְּמָקוֹם אַחֵר. אֲבָל לִפְנֵי הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ יַעֲמד כַּדָּל וְכָרָשׁ וְיִשְׁפּךְ לִבּוֹ כַּמַּיִם וְרַק בְּרַחֲמִים וּבְתַחֲנוּנִים וְלא יִתְלֶה בְּשׁוּם זְכוּת כְּלָל וְגַם לא יִדְחוֹק אֶת הַשָּׁעָה כְּלָל וְכוּ. וְזֶה בְּחִינַת מַה שֶּׁנֶּאֱמַר בְּדָוִד, עֲדִינוֹ הָעֶצְנִי, וְדָרְשׁוּ רַבּוֹתֵינוּ זִכְרוֹנָם לִבְרָכָה, כְּשֶׁיּוֹצֵא לַמִּלְחָמָה מִתְקַשֶּׁה עַצְמוֹ כָּעֵץ וּכְשֶׁהָיָה עוֹסֵק בְּדִבְרֵי תּוֹרָה מְעַדֵּן עַצְמוֹ כְּתוֹלָעַת (עַיֵּן כָּל זֶה בְּתַלְמוּד תּוֹרָה אוֹת ק"ד)
Even though all who wish to approach the holy are compelled to arouse the staff of strength of their service — that is, the power and merit of their good points, especially the power and merit of the true Tzadikim in whom they shelter — this is only in order to subdue the evil within them, since the adversarial force comes to confuse them and diminishes their service and weakens their resolve through the abundance of their corruptions and transgressions. Therefore they are compelled to search within themselves for some good points in order to revive and strengthen themselves. But before Hashem one should stand as a poor and destitute person and pour out one's heart like water, and only through mercies and supplications — not relying on any merit at all, not pressing the time at all, etc.
