Our father Yaakov, peace be upon him, when he encountered that place — which is the place of the Holy Temple — there he merited to attain in completeness the substance of the wonders and greatness of the arousal from below however small it is, and how through this specifically great illumination is drawn from above in the aspect of arousal from above, and how the arousal from below and the arousal from above are included together — which is the aspect of the totality of all the yichudim [unifications] made through the service of Israel. And then: "And he awoke from his sleep and said: Surely Hashem is in this place, and I did not know" [Genesis 28:16]. And through this he established in the heart of all souls for all generations until this day that even the most fallen souls who think that in their place Hashem, may He be blessed, is not to be found — and that all their holy awakenings amount to nothing — they too should know and believe with complete faith that also in their place there is Hashem, may He be blessed, in every place in the world. For truly Hashem is in this place too, for "the whole earth is full of His glory" — only one does not know because of the great concealment. But if one arouses some aspect of arousal from below, one will merit to find Him. (ibid., Ois 84–85) Know that all these falls and descents and confusions, etc., must inevitably pass over one before entering the gates of holiness — and all the true and G-d-fearing Tzadikim passed through all of this.
