"And for all the mighty hand and for all the great awe which Moshe did before the eyes of all Israel." [Devarim 34:12]

Merit of the Patriarchs; Mashiach Bears Their Afflictions

"The mighty hand" — this is the merit of the Patriarchs [zechus avos]. The mystery: the supernal Patriarchs are the roots of Israel — and through them their children are strengthened. But there are times of which it is said: "the merit of the Patriarchs has been exhausted" [Shabbos 55a]. And Moshe stands because of this — to strengthen it for them — and he said: "remember Avraham, Yitzchak, and Yisrael Your servants" [Shemos 32:13]. For Moshe — the faithful shepherd of Israel — is he truly — and in all things he stands to do good for them. And from this aspect he stands to strengthen the merit of the Patriarchs upon them. Therefore: "and He shall divide the spoil with the mighty" [Yeshayahu 53:12] — these are the Patriarchs.

"The great awe" — to strengthen Mashiach the King — who bears afflictions for their sake. And he stands there with it. And between this and that Israel is saved in their exiles.
