Sefer Hamidos - The Book of Traits
א. נֵרוֹת שֶׁל שַׁבָּת מַרְבִּין שָׁלוֹם.
The Shabbat candles increase peace.
ב. עַל-יְדֵי רְדִיפַת שָׁלוֹם זוֹכִין לְכָבוֹד בָּעוֹלָם הַזֶּה וּלְחַיִּים בָּעוֹלָם הַבָּא.
Through pursuing peace, one merits honor in This World and life in the World to Come.
ו. שָׁלוֹם בָּא עַל-יְדֵי אֱמֶת.
Peace comes through truth.
ח. עַל-יְדֵי שָׁלוֹם בָּאִים בְּשֹוֹרוֹת טוֹבוֹת.
Through peace come good tidings
י. עַל-יְדֵי לִמּוּד תִּינוֹקוֹת בְּבֵית רַבָּן נִתְרַבֶּה שָׁלוֹם.
Through the very young school childrens' studying, peace is increased.
יא. עֲכִירַת הַמַּיִם הוּא סִימָן שֶׁאֵין שָׁלוֹם.
Turbidity of the water is a sign that there is no peace.
יב. כְּשֶׁאֵין שָׁלוֹם, הַתְּפִלּוֹת אֵינָם מִתְקַבְּלִים.
When there is no peace, the prayers are not accepted.
יג. עַל-יְדֵי שָׁלוֹם זוֹכִין לְהִתְגַּלּוּת אֵלִיָּהוּ.
Through peace, one merits to revelation of Eliyahu [the Prophet].
יד. כְּשֶׁאֵין שָׁלוֹם, אֵין הַנָּשִׁים יוֹלְדוֹת זְכָרִים.
When there is no peace, the women do not give birth to male children.
ג. כָּל שֶׁהוּא מִפְּנֵי דַּרְכֵי שָׁלוֹם אֵין בּוֹ מִשּׁוּם "מִדְּבַר שֶׁקֶר תִּרְחָק". טו. מִי שֶׁמַשְׁאִיל לִבְנֵי-אָדָם דְּבָרִים הַצְּרִיכִים לָהֶם, כְּשֶׁיֵּשׁ בְּרִיחָה בָּעוֹלָם, הוּא נִמְלָט.
Anything which is for the sake of the 'ways of peace' is not subject to [the injunction to] “distance yourself from something false”. One who lends to people things that they need, when [a crisis causing] mass fleeing comes to the world, he will be spared.
ד. בְּנֵי-אָדָם הַכּוֹפִים לִצְדָקָה, עַל-יָדָם שְׁלוֹם הַמַּלְכוּת נִתְוַּסֵּף. טז. הַשָּׁלוֹם הוּא סִימָן לְחַיִּים. יז. עַל-יְדֵי רְדִיפַת שָׁלוֹם מַצִּיל לְבָנָיו מִמִּיתָה וּמִגָּלוּת.
People who press [others to give] charity, through them the peace with the government increases. Peace is a sign of life.
יט. כְּשֶׁיֵּשׁ שָׁלוֹם, אֵין פַּחַד.
Blessing comes through peace.
יח. הַבְּרָכָה בָּא עַל-יְדֵי שָׁלוֹם. ה. עַל-יְדֵי רְדִיפַת שָׁלוֹם בָּא לְבִטָּחוֹן. כ. עַל-יְדֵי שֶּׁיֵּשׁ שָׁלוֹם בֵּין הָרְשָׁעִים, עַל-יְדֵי זֶה יֵשׁ לָהֶם כָּל טוּב.
Through pursuing peace, one saves his children from death and exile. Through pursuing peace, one comes to trust [in G-d]. When there is peace, there is no fear.
ז. בִּנְיַן יְרוּשָׁלַיִם תָּלוּי בְּשָׁלוֹם. כא. לִפְעָמִים הַקָּדוֹשׁ-בָּרוּךְ-הוּא עוֹשֶׂה שָׁלוֹם בֵּין יִשְׂרָאֵל עַל-יְדֵי רְשָׁעִים.
The building of Jerusalem is dependent on peace. Through that which there is peace among the wicked, through this, they have everything good.
כב. הַשָּׁלוֹם סִימָן לְשֹבַע. ט. כְּשֶׁיֵּשׁ מוּסָר, יֵשׁ שָׁלוֹם. כג. כְּשֶׁהַשָּׂרִים שֶׁל מַעְלָה מִתְגָּרִים, תֵּכֶף הַאי תִּגְרָא נִתְהַוֶּה בֵּין הָאֻמּוֹת וּבֵין הַחֲכָמִים.
Sometimes the Holy One, Blessed be He, makes peace among the Jewish People through evildoers. When there is Mussar (moral refinement), there is peace. Peace is an indication of satiety.
