Sefer Hamidos - The Book of Traits
ג. לִמּוּד מַסֶּכֶת שְׁבוּעוֹת מְסֻגָּל לִירִידַת הַגֶּשֶׁם.
Learning the [Talmud] tractate Shavuot [Oaths] is conducive to (bring) rainfall.
ד. עַל-יְדֵי שְׁבוּעַת שֶׁקֶר בָּאִין הִרְהוּרֵי נִאוּף.
Through a false oath comes thoughts of lewdness.
א. עִיר שֶׁיֵּשׁ בָּהּ שְׁבוּעוֹת תֶּחֱרַב וְתֵהָרֵס חַס וְשָׁלוֹם. ה. מִי שֶׁהוּא רָגִיל בִּשְׁבוּעוֹת, מַחֲשָׁבוֹת רָעוֹת בָּאִים לוֹ תָּמִיד.
A city in which there are oaths will be ruined and destroyed, G-d forbid. Someone who is accustomed to (making) oaths, evil thoughts come to him constantly.
ו. עַל-יְדֵי הַעֲבָרַת הַשְּׁבוּעָה אֵין תְּקוּמָה בְּמִלְחָמָה.
Through transgressing an oath, there is no stance in war.
ז. מִי שֶׁעוֹבֵר עַל הַשְּׁבוּעָה, בְּיָדוּעַ שֶׁאֵינוֹ מְכַבֵּד יִרְאֵי הַשֵּׁם.
Someone who transgresses an oath, it is certain that he does not honor the G-d fearing.
ח. עַל כָּל עֲבֵרוֹת שֶׁבַּתּוֹרָה נִפְרָעִין מִמֶּנּוּ; וְכָאן-מִמֶּנּוּ וּמִמִּשְׁפַּחְתּוֹ וּמִכָּל הָעוֹלָם כֻּלּוֹ, וּמִמֶּנּוּ נִפְרָעִין לְאַלְתַּר.
For all the sins in the Torah, they take retribution from him; and here [regarding oath transgressions]; from him, and from his family, and from the whole world, and from him they take retribution immediately.
ב. עַל-יְדֵי שְׁבוּעוֹת שֶׁקֶר נוֹפְלִים מֵאֱמוּנָה. ט. דְבָרִים-שֶׁאֵין אֵשׁ וּמַיִם מְכַלִּין אוֹתָם, שְׁבוּעוֹת שֶׁקֶר מְכַלִּין אוֹתָן.
Through false oaths, [people] fall from faith. Things which (even) fire and water do not annihilate, false oaths annihilate them.
י. מַלְאָךְ גַּבְרִיאֵל הוּא מְמֻנֶּה עַל הַשְּׂרֵפָה לִשְׂרף גַּם לְהַצִּיל.
The angel Gavriel is appointed over fire, to burn and also to save.
