עַל־יְדֵי מֻפְלְגֵי וַחֲרִיפֵי הַדּוֹר מְאִירִין אֶת הַיִּרְאָה, וְעַל־יְדֵי הַיִּרְאָה מִתְנוֹצֵץ זְכוּת אָבוֹת, וְעַל־יְדֵי הִתְנוֹצְצוּת הָאָבוֹת נִתְעוֹרֵר תְּשׁוּבָה בָּעוֹלָם.

1. Brilliant, ingenious people of the generation inspire awe; through that awe, ancestral merit sparkles, and through the sparkling of ancestral merit, repentance is aroused in the world.

בְּפֶתַח בֵּיתוֹ שֶׁל אָדָם נִכָּר, אִם תַּמּוּ זְכוּת אֲבוֹתָיו אוֹ אִם חָלָה זְכוּת אֲבוֹתָיו.

2. At the entrance to a man's house it is discernible if his ancestral merit has finished, or if his ancestral merit is effective.

הַגּוֹמֵל חֲסָדִים, אֵין צָרִיךְ לִזְכוּת אָבוֹת.
