Sefer Hamidos - The Book of Traits
ב. הַנִּסָּיוֹן הוּא בִּשְׁבִיל לְגַדֵּל וּלְפַרְסֵם אֶת הָאָדָם.
A person is tested in order to make him great and famous.
א. יֵשׁ מְפֻרְסָמִים, שֶׁעִקַּר הַפִּרְסוּם שֶׁלָּהֶם נַעֲשֶׂה עַל-יְדֵי הַמַּחֲלֹקֶת. ג. עַל-יְדֵי הַמְּרִיבָה גּוֹרְמִים שֶׁהַתַּלְמִידִים הַקְּטַנִּים נִתְפַּרְסְמִים קֹדֶם זְמַנָּם. וְזֶהוּ בְּחִינַת הַפָּלַת נְפָלִים, שֶׁהַוָּלָד יוֹצֵא לַאֲוִיר עוֹלָם קֹדֶם זְמַנּוֹ, וְעַל-יְדֵי-זֶה גּוֹרֵם עֲנִיּוּת וְלִפְעָמִים גּוֹרֵם מִיתוֹת חַס וְשָׁלוֹם.
There are famed leaders whose fame is mainly created through dispute. Through strife, it happens that the lesser students become famous before their time. This is the aspect of miscarriage, that the infant emerges into the air of the world before his time. This causes poverty, and sometimes causes deaths, G-d forbid.
