ימי מוהרנ"ת - Yemei Moharnat
וְהִנֵּה בְּיוֹם רְבִיעִי לִפְנוֹת הַיּוֹם הוֹדִיעַ לִי סַרְסוּר אֶחָד שֶׁעָמַד עִמִּי בְּבֵית רַבִּי צְבִי, שֶׁיֵּשׁ סְפִינָה שֶׁתֵּלֵךְ קדֶם שַׁבָּת לִסְטַנְבּוּל, וְרָצִיתִי מְאד לֵילֵךְ עִמָּהֶם וְלִקַּח עִמִּי אֶת רַבִּי מֶנְדִּיל שֶׁהָיָה עִמִּי, אֲבָל הַבִּילֶעט לא נִגְמַר עֲדַיִן, וְשָׁלַחְתִּי מִיָּד לְהַסַּרְסוּר שֶׁל הַבִּילֶעטִין וְהֵשִׁיב, שֶׁבְּיוֹם מָחָר יֻגְמַר כַּאֲשֶׁר הִבְטִיחַנִי בְּעֵת שֶׁקִּבֵּל הַמָּעוֹת מִיָּדִי אֲבָל הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ עִכְּבַנִי וְלא נִגְמַר הַבִּילֶעט עַד יוֹם שְׁלִישִׁי שֶׁלְּאַחֲרָיו, שֶׁהוּא הַשָּׁבוּעַ הַסְּמוּכָה לְפֶסַח וְאָז נִתְיָאַשְׁתִּי עוֹד מִלָּצֵאת קדֶם פֶּסַח, כִּי רָאִיתִי כִּי מֵאֵת ה' הוּא שֶׁאֶתְעַכֵּב בְּאָדֶעס בְּחַג הַפֶּסַח הַקָּדוֹשׁ, וְדֶרֶךְ זֶה נָכוֹן לְפָנַי מִכַּמָּה טְעָמִים כַּנַּ"ל:
Also on Shabbas morning — there was a young man whose name was Shmuel — who could play very well. And he played much before us. And he too was very drawn after us. And on Sunday morning he spoke with me with great longing and intense yearning to draw close to the truth. But a high mountain stood between him and us. For the way was far from him. And the opponents were very many there. And in particular his father was a very great opponent. But even so — it was good that he had some acquaintance with us. For this too will never be lost.
