After Yom Kippur, I traveled home to Nemirov, and immediately on that same day I traveled on to Mohilov. And so began my uprooting [tiltul] to Mohilov. For my wife had traveled before Rosh Hashana to Mohilov — to her father's and mother's house — because Hashem Blessed be He had arranged circumstances: when I first drew close to Rabbainu zichrono livracha, my father-in-law was still Av Beis Din [head of the rabbinical court] in the holy community of Kreminits and its surroundings. And after three or four years he was also accepted as rabbi in the holy community of Mohilov. And so in the year 5566 my wife had traveled to Mohilov with my children — may they live. And I traveled there after Yom Kippur. And from Hashem it came to be that my father-in-law was not then at home in Mohilov — for he was in Kreminits, since he held the appointment of the rabbinate in both those communities: in Kreminits and its surroundings, and in Mohilov. And at that time he was in Kreminits. And we had thought that he would come home for Rosh Hashana, and that then my wife would return to Nemirov before Sukkos or afterward. And I traveled to Mohilov for Sukkos, intending to return to the holy community of Nemirov with my wife and children after Sukkos. But because he was delayed in Kreminits as mentioned, we were detained in Mohilov, waiting for him from day to day. And through this the matter rolled on such that we were detained in Mohilov for close to two years — as will be explained below.
