And we had great sufferings there from the greatness of the delay. For we had already hired a ship immediately in Parshas Eikev. But the captain deceived us — saying he would leave soon — and afterward delayed us greatly. And we had great anguish. And we were compelled to go to trial before the Consul. And the verdict came out twisted against us — that we would forfeit one dora per person. And so it was. And the conclusion was on Friday — Erev Shabbas — toward evening — close to the entrance of holy Shabbas. And at that very hour — Hashem Blessed be He arranged for us a ship of ours which was ready to leave on holy Shabbas. And on holy Shabbas they hired the ship — for there was great necessity. And we hired the ship at the rate of four dora per person. And I also waited for R.G. and R.Y. And there was some discord from this. But through the kindness of Hashem I prevailed over all of them. And we traveled all of us together — not as they had wished and so on. And on Sunday — Parshas Shoftim — we boarded the ship. And on Monday the ship left Alexandria. And there we had a spacious and comfortable place — each person and each one in his place sitting in peace — within the covered area [the ambar]. But we had no favorable wind. And we traveled nine days until we came to Rhodes on Tuesday — Parshas Teitzei. And we entered into the city. And we took there some provisions for our road — wine, vinegar, bread, and so on.
