וְהִנֵּה בְּעֶרֶב ראשׁ הַשָּׁנָה הָלַכְנוּ מִסָּאקֶיס כַּנִּזְכַּר לְעֵיל, וּתְהִלָּה לָאֵל טָבַלְנוּ עַצְמֵנוּ בַּבּקֶר בְּתוֹךְ הַיָּם עַל יְדֵי חֲבָלִים אַחַר כָּךְ הִגִּיעַ יוֹם ראשׁ הַשָּׁנָה הַקָּדוֹשׁ וְהַנּוֹרָא, וּתְהִלָּה לָאֵל הָיוּ לָנוּ בַּעֲלֵי תְפִלּוֹת וְתוֹקְעִים בְּעֶזְרַת הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ, וְטוֹב לְהוֹדוֹת לַה' כִּי אֲנִי הֵבֵאתִי הַשּׁוֹפָר מִצְּפָת בְּעֶזְרַת הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ כִּי זֶה הָאִישׁ שֶׁהָיָה הַשּׁוֹפָר שֶׁלּוֹ הֵכִין שׁוֹפָר לִקְחוֹ בַּדֶּרֶךְ, וּשְׁכָחוֹ בְּבֵיתוֹ וְאַחַר כָּךְ כְּשֶׁנָּסַעְתִּי אָנכִי מִצְּפַת בְּשָׁבוּעַ שֶׁאַחֲרֶיהָ שָׁלְחוּ הַשּׁוֹפָר עִמִּי וְרָאִיתִי תֵּכֶף כִּי מֵאֵת ה' הוּא שֶׁאֶזְכֶּה לִהְיוֹת שָׁלִיחַ לִדְבַר מִצְוָה הַזּאת לְהָבִיא הַשּׁוֹפָר וַאֲנַחְנוּ הָיִינוּ עַל הַסְּפִינָה תִּשְׁעָה- עָשָׂר אֲנָשִׁים חוּץ מִשְׁתֵּי נָשִׁים:
And behold — this day was Thursday — Parshas Nitzavim. And we were still standing near the city mentioned above. And Rosh Hashonah was approaching — coming on the following Monday which was upon us for good. May Hashem Blessed be He have mercy on us that we merit to come to a place of rest for the days of Rosh Hashonah that are coming upon us for good. And this was our consolation — that praised be G-d we had a shofar on the ship. And also praised be G-d we had among us more than ten for a minyan. And may Hashem the Good do what was good in His eyes.
