On Friday — Erev Shabbas Kodesh Parshas Bereishis — we went down into the ship. On Wednesday — 2nd of Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan 5583 — I went out from the ship into the city to seek my companion Rabbi Yehuda Eliezer. For the ship had begun to move. And I was wandering there — for I did not know how to return. And I had great fear — for the ship had already begun to move from its place and so on. And Hashem Blessed be He helped — that afterward a sailor ran away from the ship into the city. And they went to search for him. And through this — we were delayed through His Providence Blessed be He. And also on Wednesday — we did not leave Constantinople until Thursday — Parshas Noach — 2 Cheshvan. On holy Shabbas toward evening — we began to see Odessa from afar. And we traveled near Odessa three days. And we were unable to reach the shore until Tuesday toward evening. On Tuesday — Parshas Lech-Lecha — Hashem Blessed be He helped me — that we came to the shore of Odessa. And we rejoiced in His salvation. And that night — we sanctified the new moon in joy.
