בְּיוֹם רִאשׁוֹן אַחַר חֲצוֹת וְהוּא זִכְרוֹנוֹ לִבְרָכָה קָרָא לְבֵיתוֹ אֶחָד מֵהַבַּעֲלֵי חוֹבוֹת שֶׁהָיָה חַיָּב לוֹ מָמוֹן וְדִבֵּר עִמּוֹ, בְּתוֹךְ שֶׁהָיָה מְדַבֵּר עִמּוֹ בָּא אִישׁ אֶחָד מֵאַנְשֵׁי-שְׁלוֹמֵנוּ מִטֶּפְּלִיק וְהֵבִיא לוֹ סִימָן מֵאוּמֶין, וְאָמַר לוֹ שֶׁמְּבַקְשִׁין אוֹתוֹ לְאוּמֶין שֶׁיֵּשֵׁב שָׁם בְּהַדִּירָה הַנַּ"ל וְתֵכֶף שֶׁדִּבֵּר זאת הָאִישׁ הַנַּ"ל נִתְאַדְּמוּ פָּנָיו הַקְּדוֹשִׁים זִכְרוֹנוֹ לִבְרָכָה מְאד (וְאָז לא יָדַעְתִּי מַה זֶּה אַךְ אַחַר כָּךְ הֵבַנְתִּי לְמַפְרֵעַ כִּי זֶה מֵחֲמַת שֶׁזֶּה הָיָה קְרִיאָה לְהִסְתַּלְּקוּתוֹ, כִּי שָׁם בְּאוּמֶין נִסְתַּלֵּק)
After Shabbos I traveled to Breslov. And I sat there several days in a daze [mishtomaym], and could not find a wagon to Mohilov. And my mind was very confused from the great multiplicity of the sufferings and obstacles — for I had no one to turn to except the salvation of Hashem Blessed be He. For Rabbainu zichrono livracha was not at home. And in my father's house I have no rest as mentioned. And to return to my father-in-law's house was also difficult for me — for their hearts were not with me concerning my journey mentioned above. Therefore my mind was not at all clear. And the full extent of the sufferings in detail — it is impossible to explain. And after some days I settled, hired a wagon, and traveled to Mohilov. And I did not find my father-in-law and mother-in-law at home — for they had already traveled to Kreminits as mentioned. And I sat in Mohilov until Rosh Hashana.
וַאֲנִי הָיִיתִי נִכְסָף תָּמִיד לִנְסֹעַ עִמּוֹ אַךְ הֵבַנְתִּי מִמֶּנּוּ שֶׁאִם יִסַּע אֵין בְּדַעְתּוֹ לִקַּח אוֹתִי עִמּוֹ, רַק הַדָּבָר הָיָה נִרְאֶה שֶׁיִּקַּח אֶת רַבִּי נַפְתָּלִי נֵרוֹ יָאִיר אַךְ מֵאֵת הַשֵּׁם הָיְתָה שֶׁבְּאוֹתוֹ יוֹם רִאשׁוֹן הַנַּ"ל הֻכְרַח רַבִּי נַפְתָּלִי לָשׁוּב לְבֵיתוֹ אֵיזֶה שָׁעוֹת קדֶם שֶׁבָּא הָאִישׁ הַנַּ"ל מִטֶּפְּלִיק עַל כֵּן תֵּכֶף כְּשֶׁרָאִיתִי שֶׁדַּעְתּוֹ זִכְרוֹנוֹ לִבְרָכָה לִנְסֹעַ לְאוּמֶין בְּעֵת שֶׁבָּא הָאִישׁ הַנַּ"ל מִטֶּפְּלִיק אָז הִתְחַלְתִּי לַעֲסֹק בְּעִנְיַן הַנְּסִיעָה כְּדֵי שֶׁיִּקַּח אוֹתִי וְהוּא זִכְרוֹנוֹ לִבְרָכָה לא דִּבֵּר עִמִּי מְאוּמָה מִזֶּה אִם יִקַּח אוֹתִי אוֹ אִישׁ אַחֵר, רַק אֲנִי בְּעַצְמִי הָלַכְתִּי וְקָרָאתִי בַּעַל עֲגָלָה אֶחָד וְעָסַקְתִּי בְּכָל צָרְכֵי הַנְּסִיעָה עַד שֶׁזָּכִיתִי שֶׁלָּקַח אוֹתִי לַדֶּרֶךְ הַזֶּה לְאוּמֶין וְאִלְמָלֵא לא אָתֵינָא לְעָלְמָא אֶלָּא לִנְסֹעַ עִמּוֹ דֶּרֶךְ הַזֶּה דַּיִּי, כִּי רַב טוּב זָכִיתִי לִשְׁמעַ בַּדֶּרֶךְ הַזֶּה תּוֹרוֹת וְשִׂיחוֹת נוֹרָאוֹת הַמְחַיִּין אוֹתִי וְכָל בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל לְדוֹרוֹת כַּאֲשֶׁר מוּבָן מְעַט לְהַשּׁוֹמְעִים אֶת כָּל אֲשֶׁר שָׁמַעְתִּי בַּדֶּרֶךְ הַזֶּה
At that time — between Shavuos and Rosh Hashana — Rabbainu zichrono livracha became betrothed to his second wife from Brad. And afterward he came home and said on Shabbas Kodesh: "I will tell you something about my journey" — and he told the Story of the Fly and the Spider and so on [Sipuray Maasiyos, Story 7]. And no one knows what connection this story has to his journey. And I did not merit to be with him then.
