But — praised be G-d — we saved everything that was in his house, from a thread to a shoe-strap. And he zichrono livracha sat the entire night on the hill outside the city — which is across from the synagogue and across from his house. And there he sat and looked at the city and at his house. And I was with him there during the fire. And he sat in joy. Afterward — close to daylight — I came to him zichrono livracha there once more. And the fire had already stopped. And his house had already burned. And he said to me: "We should return to the city." And I walked with him. He went by way of the other side of the river that runs there — for he could no longer return to his house since it had already burned. He only walked to the other side of the river in order to reach the bridge that is there. And I walked after him. He answered and said to me as I walked behind him: "Who would have said that we would be walking on Leil Shabbas close to daylight along this road?" And afterward we came to the city. And he entered the house of Rabbi Shimon at the end of the city — from this side along the road that goes to Uman. And there he sat all that Shabbos until Sunday. And all his belongings we afterwards brought into the home of Rabbi Zelig — which was at the other end of the city, very far from the home of Rabbi Shimon into which he had entered himself as mentioned. Afterward — on Sunday — he left the house of Rabbi Shimon and entered the house of Rabbi Zelig mentioned above, where his belongings had been placed.
