Every Jew can rule through his prayer to accomplish what he wishes. But the primary obstacle is from arrogance — and from ulterior considerations — and from alien thoughts. For some have arrogance because they are of great lineage — or because they have toiled and laboured in the service of the Creator, may He be blessed. And then certainly there can be no ruling power in prayer. Therefore when one stands to pray — one must break all this — and forget one's lineage and also one's labour in the service of Hashem. And imagine oneself as if created today — and as having not yet laboured at all in the service of Hashem — and also as if alone in the world with no lineage whatsoever. And likewise one must break and nullify the other alien thoughts that come during prayer — arising from one's earlier deliberate sins or deliberate wicked thoughts. And then one will be able to rule in prayer. And then the will of the Creator, may He be blessed, is fulfilled. And He, may He be blessed, has great delight from one's prayer. And through this one draws all the influences in the world.
