תּוֹרָה קמא - וּמָל ה' אֱלֹהֶיךָ אֶת לְבָבְךָ א. אִם יִזְכֶּה שֶׁיַּרְגִּישׁ בֶּאֱמֶת כְּאֵב חֲטָאָיו, דְּהַיְנוּ כְּשֶׁיָּמוּל עָרְלַת לְבָבוֹ עַד שֶׁיַּרְגִּישׁ לְבָבוֹ בֶּאֱמֶת גֹּדֶל כְּאֵבוֹ וְיִצְטַעֵר וְיִתְחָרֵט וְיָשׁוּב בִּתְשׁוּבָה בֶּאֱמֶת, אָז יַרְגִּישׁוּ גַּם כָּל הַלְּבָבוֹת שֶׁל כָּל הַטִּפּוֹת שֶׁנִּמְשְׁכוּ מִמֶּנּוּ, הֵן בָּנָיו מַמָּשׁ הֵן אוֹתָם שֶׁנִּמְשְׁכוּ לְמָקוֹם אַחֵר חַס וְשָׁלוֹם, כֻּלָּם יִהְיֶה נִמּוֹל עָרְלַת לְבָבָם וְיַרְגִּישׁוּ הֵיכָן הֵם מֻטָּלִים, וְיִהְיֶה נַעֲשֶׂה רַעַשׁ גָּדוֹל בֵּינֵיהֶם וְיִתְעוֹרְרוּ לִתְשׁוּבָה כֻּלָּם: ב. הַזְּמַן הַמְסֻגָּל לָזֶה הוּא חֹדֶשׁ אֱלוּל, שֶׁאָז יְכוֹלִין לִזְכּוֹת לְהַרְגִּישׁ כְּאֵב חֲטָאָיו בֶּאֱמֶת, עַד שֶׁיַּרְגִּישׁוּ גַּם הַלְּבָבוֹת שֶׁל זַרְעוֹ לְהֵיכָן שֶׁנִּמְשְׁכוּ, עַד שֶׁיִּהְיֶה נַעֲשֶׂה רַעַשׁ גָּדוֹל בֵּינֵיהֶם וְיָשׁוּבוּ בִּתְשׁוּבָה כֻּלָּם:
If one merits to truly feel the pain of one's sins — that is, when one circumcises the foreskin of one's heart until one truly feels the great pain of one's heart — and is pained and regrets and returns in genuine teshuvah — then all the hearts of all the drops that flowed from him will also feel it. Whether his actual children — or those drawn elsewhere — G-d forbid — all of them will have the foreskin of their heart circumcised. And they will feel where they are lying. And a great trembling will be made among them — and they will all be awakened to teshuvah. The propitious time for this is the month of Elul. For then one can merit to truly feel the pain of one's sins — until the hearts of one's offspring also feel wherever they have been drawn — until a great trembling is made among them and they all return in teshuvah.
