Why we find people who die in the middle of their learning — which was not so in earlier generations when one knew the day of one's death and was engaged in Torah — and the accuser had no dominion over him — know: that if the learning is proper — certainly he has no power at all. But if the learning is not as it should be — and in particular the learning of Gemara — if it is not as it should be — then the accuser receives more power from the learning. For "Talmud" in gematria equals the letters of her name [Lilit]. Therefore Torah study of the Talmud has the power either to subdue her — or in the opposite direction — G-d forbid.
