On Sunday — Parshas Bo — I traveled from Haysin to Teplik. And I arrived in Teplik on Monday evening — as the day was turning to night. And I found there Rabbi Moshe from Bafalye. And I asked him to hire a wagon for me in his village — either to travel to Uman or — if possible — to hire a wagon for the whole week for the entire journey. What a good thing that would be. On Monday I rose early and prayed. In the middle of the prayer a Gentile came with a letter from Rabbi Moshe mentioned above — written that Rabbi Moshe mentioned above had hired him for a small sum for the week to travel with me the entire journey. And I ate there. And afterward I traveled after midday to go to Uman — for the eve of Rosh Chodesh Shvat which was approaching on Tuesday. And I came to the village of Rusashi and the horses tired. And the Gentile said we would have to hire another wagon. And we were very very hurried and frantic. For the day had greatly declined. And the following day was Erev Rosh Chodesh. And I was very hurried and frantic to be there at the holy grave among our anshei sh'lomaynu — as was our custom every single year since the day of his passing — to be in Uman at his holy grave on Erev Rosh Chodesh Shvat. Therefore I was very very frantic. And Hashem provided for us a certain Gentile. And I was compelled to give him whatever he wished — ten gold coins — to bring us to Uman that evening. And I traveled with him — I and Rabbi Mendil. And Hashem was with me in my help. And we came to Uman that evening — about three or four hours into the night. And already everyone was asleep at Rabbi Avraham's — which was my inn. And I was compelled to go to Rabbi Naftali my companion's house — to lodge there for the night. And I came there and I thought I would find there our people who come for Erev Rosh Chodesh — who all lodge at his house. But there was not even one of them there — because of the bad road conditions many were unable to come. And those who did come did not arrive until the following morning. But when I entered Rabbi Naftali's house — I found there many important people sitting at a feast. And this was a wedding meal of one of our people — whom Rabbi Naftali was marrying off at that time. And I had great joy from this. And I ate the evening meal there. On Tuesday morning I prayed at Rabbi Naftali's house. In the middle of the prayer — all our anshei sh'lomaynu who had come from Breslov arrived and gathered. And we all went to the holy grave. And we poured out our hearts there — as was our constant custom.
